Who Would Want To Drop This?

It's a bad time for female rappers. First Olivia got dropped from G-Unit, then Remy Man got dropped from Terror Squad, now HHNLive say they heard Shawnna got dropped from Disturbing the Peace and if you go to her Myspace page, ain't nana DTP crew member on her friends list.

Could it be that the chicks are tired of sitting on the backburner to the guys who they probably spit better than anyway??? I'm just sayin...

Rap has always been a male dominated field, though I wouldn't call Olivia a rapper.

As for Shawna I thought the reason she decided not to do the girl group thing with Remy and Jackie was because she had the green light for her own project. I bet that group thing is probably looking real good to all of them at this point.

Mahogany, I agree with you. I think some of these woman CAN spit better. The problem is that many of them come out of the gate dressing, dancing and acting like wannabe porn queens, so they are not taken seriously.

At the end of the day if any of these women really want to make it happen, they'll work hard to really make it happen. Hopefully.

These women have to get out and make a name for themselves. They are going to have to start grinding like they never had a deal. Get in the studio and make some good music. Since they've already been in the industry, I'm sure they have contacts. Work It. You can't depend on nobody else to do anything for you. Do that SH-- yourself. Especially if you are on a label with someone like Luda or 50, they are the ones that get all the shine. You got to go out and get your own.

They need to come with real lyrics and stop looking like whores. All I'm looking at is ass & titties and I don't concentrate on what they are saying. Most female rappers suck content wise! Where Jean Grey at?

^^The problem is that male rappers are easier to market than women.

For men it's all about street cred, so that's what labels heavily draw on--whether they have to make up a sob story for these rappers or not. It appeals to male fans because they have someone from the hood to look up to and it appeals to female fans because deep down women like a "bad boy".

For female rappers marketing is harder. Seems like you either have to look downright boyish or extra slutty. Not sure why though.

^^ Yeah I agree with that. They should try an indepedent lable or something.Cause some of these girls can rap better then half these guys out there.

I have to agree that rap is a black male dominated field. Women do have to work harder and show themselves more.

I just think that while Shawnna is a strong rapper, she failed to followup to her smash "Gettin some Head." Better beats, strong lyrics and crazy production could have put this girl on the map.

U r right O.diva some of the ladies don't know which way to go once the label heads and their bosses get in their ear. They should stay tru to themselves and start their own company like the guys do. Go on tour and bank cash and not promises and they'll have the $$$ to promote and market themselves.

I am sooooo surprised more woman have not already done this!!! The biggest draw to 50 cent (besides getting shot fifty-eleven times) is the G-Unit brand. Same goes for Dipset, Wu-tang, Disturbing tha Piece, Terror Squad, etc...I don't even know most of the rappers in these camps, but I recognize the brand.

These woman need to take a business or marketing course and start creating THEIR own brand...might help get them noticed a bit more.

We need a chick in the game that balances her sexuality with her skills. All I ever see is chicks with some talent that dress real nasty and stuff. There was a female rapper that came out four years ago. She came out with Timbaland and even had a song with nelly furtado, she wasn't bad at all, but we never showed her love cause she wasn't street enough.

Those are some NAPPY HEADED HOES!

lmao @ 2:17 pm^^^

She's fyah! All she needs is the right management and producer. She can really rock a house.

Maybe these chicks are just crazy. And the dudes are scared of them...

@Anom 1:14 PM: I know who you're talking about. Her name was Miss Jade. And yeah I agree, she could spit.

I feel bad for Shawnna. She got mad talent as a rapper and she can freestyle real well, which most female rappers out right now can't do. I hope she can bounce back from this and maybe go through the independent route so that she can finally make it. Khia wen independent and ended up selling 800,000 copies back in 2003, so I'm sure if Shawnna gets the right team behind her that will make her some hits, she'll be able to do the same thing. I just hope she doesn't give up.

She can spit very well..

But....

She needs to clean up her image.. She almost can be mistaken for a man..

I wish her the best..

salt n pepa had that balance they could spit and could dress sexy, but when lil kim hit the scene it seems like record companies wanted to market every female rapper on that scale. everyone can't do the slutty thing and be taken seriously, good luck with both

as a big fan of hip hop, i would love to see some ladies doing their thing out there. I agree with the majority of the comments on here and I would love to see a female rapper on top of her game with clothes on. there are plenty of women in the underground that are going hard grinding and wishing and praying on that chance. Its obvious though that even if you've been given a shot that its not about who you know. It don't matter who you lay, they've gone as far as eliminating the category of female rappers from the Grammy's!! that was insane! I wish them well, cuz damn if I don't want my shot!

shawnna is a BEAST i don't know why this chic aint blown up to be real rap aint been the same femalewise since lil kim and fox boogy started f-ng up but this chic needs some representation she is FIYAH.. and another chic that is REAL that damn Babs Bunny MTB2 that girl was sikwidit but alas titties and ass will only get you so far luda probably dropped her cuz he aint getting no more H---

Her hair is pretty.

I DON'T THINK THERE ARE MANY FEMALE RAPPERS WHO CAN F*** WITH SHAWNNA PERIOD. I HAVE HER ALBUM AND SHE IS THE TRUTH.. I DON'T GET WHY THEY COULDN'T KEEP HER ON EVENTHOUGH SHE MAYBE DIDN'T SELL AS MUCH AS THEY WOULD'VE LIKED,BUT THAT DON'T CHANGE THE FACT THAT SHE'S NASTY..AND SOMEONE WITH GOOD SENSE WILL SNATCH HER UP...

OMGSeriously said...

PLZ don't hate because shawnna is fire...... she can rip AT LEAST half these males and most the females.

There is no official statement that Shawnna was released from DTP, and how do we know that it is her official myspace page? I will continue to support her no matter where she at. She is a very talented artist.

Anonymous said...

Well if they had their own lead they could go somewhere.

Anonymous said...

I can see why the others may have been dropped, but Shawnna, as annoying as her arse is can rap circles around any male rappers -- including Luda!

The main problem with the article above is that Olivia is NOT A RAPPER!

Did all of you miss the fact that she spit lava? That gul is the truth and needz respect. Hard like Boss if you remember "let a hoe be a hoe."
