Over 50,000.00 people showed up for the rally in Jena, La. yesterday in support of the Jena 6. There were no reports of violence and Mychael Bell will be granted a new hearing within 72 hours. President George Bush, wearing a black suit on television last night, said," The events in Louisiana have saddened me. And I understand the emotions. The Justice Department and the FBI are monitoring the situation down there. And all of us in America want there to be, you know, fairness when it comes to justice."See pictures from the march here.

Well it was a peaceful rally without fights,riots. From what I can tell in place of the fights,riots there were alot of "Ego's" from the black radio personalities/activists. We all know that can be detrimental to any Movement. Don't get me wrong I love Al Sharpton but he is an opportunist. Michael Baisden tried to turn this into a Party.
This was suppose to be new sparks in the Movement of Justice not an Event. A Movement is forever, an Event last only one day. This is why "THEY" don't take us seriously.
It was great to see all the support. I wish I could have went but I did wear black yesterday. I don't understand what the black people mean dressed in KKK outfits, I think that's a little extreme.

despite all the negative things that are being written about the rally the big picture was to bring awarness to this situation and i think that the leaders of this did a great job! for one day black and all the other races that went in support showed america that the justice system has to change!!!instead of finding fault in something good try speaking about the postives that this rally represented!!!!!!!!!!

I felt quite gratified when I saw how well the turnout was for this rally. I m sure some of the people there may have been a little bit opportunistic, but the majority never lost sight of thefundamental cause. And the resulting publicity is what the cause needed. I watched the special on CNN last night (I even Tivo'd it) and I thought it was a good piece of reporting. Yeah you sorta cringe when you have Jesse and Al there because they come with so much baggage, but as much as some of us like to criticize Jesse and Al I guarantee you if a family member of yours gets locked up or god forbid killed because of some act of racism you would be clamoring to have Jesse and Al take up the cause and be at your press conference.
I felt pretty proud of the ground swell of black support from regular folks and kids from college campuses all over the country. Because if you pay attention to the Jews they are remarkably good at organizing grass roots campaign to achieve their social and political objectives; good to the point of being almost predatory (but thats naother story). We should take a pages from that playbook. What was also good to see was the large number of relatively young people who were there, had it been a little closer to NY I would've certainly taken the day off work and go lend my voice.
I thought this rally made clear to the rest of the country that we have no intentions of sitting idly by while all the racial progress we have made is steadily eroded by modern day racists. As Al said in his CNN interview, "we use to have to deal with Jim Crow, but now we are dealing with James Crow, Esq." Modern day racists are much more sophisticated and educated but their bigotry is no less malevolent, impactful or insiduous.
I applaud this rally for whatever its worth, and whatever good its going to do. I hope we can galvanize as many people to pay attention to some of the other causes that are affecting people of color in this country; issues that are denying us economic empowerment. The subprime mortgage debacle is one thing that affects minorities disproportionately and is a huge problem. If only we could get some camera time from Al, Jesse, Maxine Waters and Sheila Jackson Lee for that cause too...

You do understand that Justin was part of a group of white kids that beat the living hell out of a black kid at a mostly white party where the black kid got a bottle broken over his head and those kids were tried in juvenile court and given probation, and Justin got that ass beat after teasing the boy who was beaten at the party plus called him a nigger? I mean hell, if you really wanted to play devil's advocate, you could mention that his father is AFRICAN (i.e., not a descendent of slaves, thus, he does not share our common history) and that his mother is a WHITE woman from Kansas. Thus, you could say, what does he know about us, really? Yes, his wife is African-American, but she won't be president. I want the candidate who is going to do what's best and what's fair for everyone in this country, period.
