Everybody Hates Bloggers

Gabrielle Union, Nia Long, and Sanaa Lathan are in the current issue of Essence magazine and I'm sure they talk about a lot of interesting things, but um, I didn't read it. Anyway, here's what they say about black gossip blogs...

Gabrielle: Just last week somebody gave me a baby. This isn’t Perez Hilton or the White gossip people, these are women of color, specifically Black women who, for whatever reason, don’t like the company I keep.
Sanaa: She’s talking about the gossip sites.
Essence: The blogs.
Sanaa: That are run by Black women.
Gabrielle: And now because everyone is clamoring for celebrity tidbits, the bigger gossip sites and even mainstream entities are picking up on it. No fact-checking, no nothing. And in one week’s time, there were like five different dudes, a baby—I’m a homewrecker. In literally seven days. I can’t point the finger at the White media. They don’t care about us. Paparazzi are not staked out in front of any of our houses. They are not going through our garbage because they don’t care about us in that way. So when you hear crap about us, it is coming from our own community, which hurts.
Nia: We are some of the few Black actresses whose passions are rooted in our community.
Gabrielle: There is this idea that there is integrity in journalism; if it’s written it has to be true. But that’s not the case. When blogs or any of the magazines get it wrong, there’s no accountability. In the next breath, they’ll complain on the blogs that we don’t have enough Black stars. Well, you rip us to shreds every two seconds from our nose to the weave to the clothes to the shoes to the ashy ankles.

By the way WHO THE FUCK FACT CHECKS RUMORS ya sexy idiot. I'd still fuck her, but i'll make sure she keeps her mouth shut.

every celebrity gets talked about, white and black. If you can't handle it then you shouldn't be a celebrity

So is the lesson here that they do not want anyone to talk about them? Im confused as to what their beef is. And not all blogs are run by Black women, some are, clutch the pearls, run by men. And which community are Nia's passions rooted too?

No shade on Sanaa cause it doesnt appear that she is co - signing with these 2 douches. Plus she had better keep her mouth shut or her , shall I say affinity, for the ladies will come up.

Overall I am playing the worlds smallest violin for them.

Dayum! And here I was hoping Gabriellle was gonna play "That Bitch Afghanistan" in the RWS movie.

What wrong with them? they all hot got (or had) good careers you don't see them with they face all splashed up in pictures. Black people do find something to hate on. i mean so what if Gabrielle is everywhere least you don't hear the one about her leaving her kids to do it. Its all good. I hope Sanaa wasn't effing Denzel i hope that is a rumor and Nia I don't think I ever heard anything negative about her. give the girls a break. I admit I do believe some of the stuff I read but if I was the one getting talked recklessly about I wouldn't read it I would not be able to lets face it all it takes is one picture and people go OFF. I admit there is alot of funny ^%$# said too but that is what blogging is. If it is flase I would not care but the stuff that is true that you dont want put out there I do imagine that hurts. But do people care? Hell no

i think stars need to get with what it means to be a star in 2007. its different. celebrities have gone from being undeniably loved to picked apart.

don't like it?

don't get into the industry. no actress would argue hollywood is nice and fair and doesn't make fun/talk shit and doesn't plant lies and tell rumors...

so its time, actors of america (and everywhere else) to get with it...

or get gone.

some truth to her ranting but she better get some thick skin cause thats the life she chose and haters are everywhere!

I think Gabrielle was taking aim at that freak Wendy Williams—who runs (ahem) another blog.

Not sure Gabby did the best thing by drawing attention to Wendy's bullshit, though.

She should have just ignored her—pretended they exist in two different universes, which is much closer to the truth.

Gabrielle's BMs look better than Wendy.

their not even being talked about that bad look at beyonce, they talked about her from head to toe. Britney is being followed everywhere. I actually heard more nice then bad, compared to the some of the other celebrities.

The accountabilty comes from readers. And, thanks to reader comentary, the blogosphere is "self-correcting".

Bloggers are frequently called out by readers who, often under the cover of anonimity, provide very persuasive "other-side-of-the-story" accounts. The best part is that stuff gets checked immediately.

I'm sorry, ladies. The blogosphere is here to stay. Time to get with the program and learn how to "work" the blogs (i.e., as a cheap promotion vehicle) instead of complaining about 'em.

I understand what she's saying. Yes when you become a celebrity you give up a lot of anonymity and privacy, that's the price of being rich and famous, having fans and your face on movie screens. And it's so easy for us to say "I wouldn't give a fuck cause I'm rich and living the life", but I'm sure half of yall would flinch, cry, cuss and be pissed or feel the sting when you get in your car, flip on the radio on your way to wherever and hear the gossip segment on Russ Parr or Tom Joyner saying nasty untruths about you. If your friends email you links to the latest gossip about yourself.

I think what they are saying is that you would kinda expect Black folk to be behind you and not tear you down. Sites like Media Takeout are lowdown and make up stuff all the time and pick our black celebs apart and they are black. Quite entertaining but a lot of BULLSHYT and made up stories! The white media don't give a damn about black celebs if they aren't Oprah, O.J, Halle or Michael Jackson.....ooops he's not black. LOL

It really isn't worth their time or energy to comment on this shit. When folks don't have your name in their mouth then, and only then do you as an entertainer have a problem. Fuck the haters and keep your fabulous ass moving.

Get over it Gabby. Ten years ago when you were anonymous, you were probably fantasizing about being the subject of juicy gossip.(not all gossip blogs are the same either)
And she's right- the white blogs could care less. If anything, THEIR commenters leave the nasty and racist remarks.
Gossip and blogging adds to a celebrity's popularity and exposure. Gabby, Quit yer bitchin'!

If you're going to be a celebrity, black or white, you do give up your privacy... but to a certain extent. What you do in your own home is your business, wear the sweat pants and bunny slippers all day, but when you step into the spotlight, just be on your "A" game at all times, because we know how black folks are, we scrutinize each other from the top of the head to the bottom of the feet. Hell, we even do it in church! As cotton mouth said @11:15am, gossip and blogging adds to a celeb's popularity, especially for black people, so just step up your game, and black women, get thicker skin!! If things are said about you that you know is not true, why let it bother you?? If you put yourself out there like a ho, however, you will get treated like one...

First of all Gab it comes with the territory. Second if you don't want to be talked about don't go out or quit your job. And third they are even lucky that someone is talking about them you think the white media will talk about them on a consoistence basis. You'll be even lucky if you get a moment on their station. Lastly they seem all fake to me. Whatever happend to individualality and being different. The all trying to fit in a white society. But they gotta realize YA ARE STILL BLACK.

So she's saying white bloggers dish on white celebrities, black bloggers dish on black celebrities. Duh. And the point is?

Welcome to fame in the 2000's bitches.

Gabby should be lucky she's in the blogs. I like her and all, but her profession over the last MANY years has been nothing but party girl. Just becasue she has a movie out now (finally!) she wants to run her mouth about being caught up in photos with different men.

Stay your ass home if you don't want to be photographed or talked about. That'll solve your "problem".

It's funny how you say they shouldnt be celebs. These bitches are so strong, that their resumes could be used as Master cards. They politley are asking you to stop proving you have no life. It doesn't make them look bad. It makes you gullible bitches look pathetic.

Nia I would wife up, she seem like da ultimate girl-next-door who would give you her paycheck check to fix the alternator on your car. Gabrielle aint good for shit except gettn gangbanged by Gary Coleman, Beetlejuice, Flav and Midget Mac.

I never ever liked that ho Gabby I dunno whatda fuck people see in this heffa. I wouldnt fuck this ho,just out of principle. Gawd this bitch annoys me!!

All three of them, should be glad that their names are in print. Good or Bad, they are reaping from it.

Lets mount an assault, girls . . . . if you let her tell it.

Nia, baby, with all your beauty, stfu - take that, take that. . .

When you face down your enemy it pays to be nimble and quick -- but you see we aren't her enemy - she should actually embrace the new media instead of throwing spears, b/c you know what happens when you throw rocks from a glass house.

I beg to differ. First of all its not all women blogging. Though women may be running the sites. Second, its all a matter of perspective. You have "John Q" and Jane Q, from the block making commentary and then you have celebs responding - THATS PROGRESS -- WELCOME TO THE NEW MILLENIUM. oK THE FACTS MAY NOT ALWAYS BE FACTS BUT - SO IN OTHER WORDS - motherfuckering celebs are feeling the wrath of there public. Good, bad or indifferent, the one's who were the voiceless are actually being recognized - I say BRAVO. And this is just the beginning. ONLY IN AMERICA, ONLY IN AMERICA.

"Well, you rip us to shreds every two seconds from our nose to the weave to the clothes to the shoes to the ashy ankles"

Its these comments that don't hold up well with us bloggers and well I don't have ashy ankles and I am not a bitch. I'm sitting here with my fellow bloggers and we now know what we say is being read by everyone, celebs and the public. Go get your thesauraus and dictionary people, lets polish up our act. Our public awaits us - we are the new stars.

Anonymous said...

All I have to say is that there is at least 20 lbs of weave on the cover of that mag. When will we embrace our natural beauty again>? Who lied to us and told us that it isn't enough for us to style our own hair and that be it? I hate that black women put all of this stuff in our heads and neglect the hair that God has given us. Treat your hair ladies!!!! Ain't nothing wrong with a wash and set!!! This is coming from a woman who never left the house unless something was glued or sewn onto my scalp!!!!!!!!!

Rhymeswithtwista said...

Then get it together, Heffa!! U knew U were getting your picture taken when U went to bed last night!! Like U said, ain't nobody staked out in front of your house, so most of your press has to be staged, so no excuses!! Come correct or get TOSSED, BEE-YATCH!!

Seriously, though... I love all three of these Sistas work, they can make a way out of a no-way part everytime! ;~}

@7:07

"anonymous" can I have your autograph LOL??!!

You are delusional if you believe that posting faceless comments on a gossip blog equates to stardom.

Did you go to Junior High School? Do you remember "Slam Books?"

Gossip Blogs are merely a high tech version of Slam Books.

Gabby and her crowd would do better to just ignore the negative, the nasty, and the untrue.

But her point is well-taken; it's unlikely you will see her face on a "People" magazine cover any time soon, so in reality, "Blog Content" probably represents a large proportion of the kind of "press" attention she and other black actors are ever likely to get.

Unless, of course, they fuck up.

Then look out.

If Gabby really wants attention from "People," she only needs to try to break up Denzel's marriage, get arrested, die tragically, or pull some other stunt.

Asherah said...

GU is an idiot. she should be glad for any coverage. when was her last movie bad boys 2?

I cosign with the statement there is a hell of a lot of weave in that picture.

Denise said...

Again, if I was a black actress, I'd be working the blogs to build my fan base .

First starters, I'd have my own blog that would showcase me as a professional actress AND active member of my community. My blog would show me using my fame constructively - on behalf of the community and the world through volunteering, mentoring, etc.

Time to show fans that you're about more than getting dressed up to walk a red carpet or playing musical beds.

Do something with your fame and use the blogs to get your shine on!

FIRST - Id like to say, yeah they are Right, but that sht is necessary = thats Celebrity for you.

SECOND - That is the most Beautiful cover of any magazine Ive seen in YEEAARS. Three of the most Gorgeous black women/actresses out there!

THIRD - I would LOVE to see this same cover with their beautiful selves with their Natural beauty. Try it again with their REAL hair or done African Queen Style. The cover would be even more beautiful. Lets see beautiful black women looking Black and Beautiful! Represent!

And Fourth

You aint a Celebrity if no one is talking about you!

Ask Brittany Spears -- Any publicity is good publicity (she learned that from Madonna). Brittany can always make a come back.

Look at Whitney Houston's rusty behind- Clive Davis still cant let go, and neither can some of her most devoted fans.

gabby really is an idiot. I love how she says perez hilton is not the one doing it, even though he tears beyonce to shreds at every opportunity he gets, and started a movement to have isaiah washington fired from grey's anatomy . perez just is not mentioning her ass because she is not famous enough.
it seems like she is just mad about one blog in general and is stereotyping everyone.
oh well. im sick of talking about her. she probably just mad that the paps aren't following her around and not taking her pick (because she isnt famous enough)
I wish she would just go sit the hell down with OJ in a corner somewhere. both of them need a time out.

ALL THREE OF THOSE CUTE KUNTS SHOULD BE GLAD THAT WE TALK ABOUT THEIR BLOODY ASS. I DONT BLAME PEOPLE GOING THRU THEIR GARBAGE CANS. IF I LIVED IN LA I WOULD BE DOING THE SAME THING. ALSO HOW BIG THAT HOLE IS FROM THE TAMPONS THEY USE.LOTS OF USEFUL INFO ON THE HO. THEY DID THAT TO MARYLIN MONROE,AND THEY DO IT TO ALL THE CUTE HOT HOLLYWOOD HO'S.

They pretend they care, we pretend we don't and it keeps going and going. whatever.

Truth is blogs don't hurt celebrities. Celebrities hurt celebrities.

They may have been wondering how much longer will halle be the Black "it" girl after the baby is born.

And when when she's the ''pretty nana'' in the movies, whose next?

They can blame bloggers all day.. but maybe they need to boink billy bob hucklberry fin (or whatever his name is..) in a movie.
