Chino, you are so right. Michael stated himself that maintaining Neverland costs him millions. He couldn't keep it simple. He had to have the exotic animals, amusement rides, etc. Animal vet bills were astounding I am sure and the tigers and elephants needed handlers. Uneccessary BS that only became more expensive as time went on.

Given that he hasn't lived there for over two years, it seems it no longer has the same place in his heart as before.

I must say I agree with the comment above. After the last accusation MJ could not live in that house anymore with the molestation connotation that is Neverland and all.
