Black Man

Maybe someone will care. . .

not me, though. I got biscuits!

Anonymous said...

all this does is inspire black men to become more ignorant. nas is comparing his struggle with a slave now. GTFOH!!! Were gonna have a black man as president soon on one hand.. and in the other we have simple minded backward thinking shit this that brainswashes kids and cognitively chalenged blacks to think they are being persecuted by 'whitey'.

Anonymous said...

^^I hear what you're saying but I think what Nas is trying to convey is although we have made a lot of progress we still have miles to go. Many more rivers to cross. I mean that depiction of Michelle Obama being lynched is just one of the ignorant actions by ignorant a*s people that proves the point right there. It's not just his struggle it's our struggle....actually the struggle of most of the minorities in Amerikkka. Black people aren't the only ones still feeling the heat from the powers that be.

Anonymous said...

11:02.. the whole story is probably somewhere in the middle of what you say.. Yes there is a good chance that Obama is about to become President but racial injustice still persists in this country. Blacks and Hispanics still are forced to attend the absolute WORST public schools in this country. Access to QUALITY healthcare facilities in lower income neighborhoods is still a problem. The police are still allowed to profile young minority males and even shoot them down in cold blood. I'm not in the camp that blames "Whitey" for everything but the playing field damn sure isn't level.. maybe closer to level than it ever has been but still...

I MEAN I THINK NAS IS VERY TALENTEDMAN, BU OMG WHAT WAS HE THINKING OF PUTTING THAT ON HIS BACK! I MEAN THAT IS SUCH AN INSULT TO SLAVERY DAY'S I MEAN WHAT KIND OF STATEMENT IS HE REALLY TRYING TO MAKE, C/'MON NAS LET' GET BACK TO REALITY

I personally think it's pretty hot.... I think ya'll are reading into a lil too much... Very creative IMO.. Holla!!!

I like the cover. Nas knows this album will be rejected by many, but he's doing it anway because he's trying to get a point across. I respect that. There's more to rap than bragging about materialism and wealth.

That is a powerful image. I will not buy this album but I hope his lyrics can match the image on the cover.

CHIC NOIR said...

@11:15 AM- I think you said it best. I sometimes wonder why we don't protest our failing schools the same way we protested for the right to sit in the front of the bus.

11:45-LOL now see, I'ma fixin on coming and spankin you.

Talk NY- people think his album cover is travalizing slavery and all that African-Americans have been through in this country. That is why they are upset or jugemental about it. Haven't you noticed that it is now sort of okay to make jokes about "us" again? It's because they think we don't respect ourselves or our History.

Anonymous said...

Nas needs to stop getting so wasted on blunts and tell the youth something that will be beneficial to them such as getting and education. This is not an original cover; watch Oprah's movie "Beloved" and you will see where this "original" idea was stolen. Someone please take this negro to school, Jay Z can you please help this child?

Anonymous said...

Black people have regressed in many ways. Try to understand how deep the cd cover is on so many levels. It applies to the day to day unique challenges that come with being of color in this society. Yes, in 2008.

11:02 is probably a cracker. That last statement he made convinced me. Would you be more comfortable if he were to rap about hoes, grills, rims, drinkin syrup, smoking niggas etc?..... SMH.

Anonymous said...

11:02 whats up with the "they" comment? You not one of us?

Anonymous said...

As far as the bad schools comments go we really need to check the behavior issues that are holding schools back. There are so many discipline issues in schools that the good teachers dont want to stay, as soon as they get a job at a better school they gonna take it. When parents start accepting the fact that their children may be the ones causing a disruption and doing something about it. Or how about raising your children so they dont get out of hand in the first place. But thats to hard, just blame it on the school system instead. There isnt much learning going on when the day is constantly disrupted by behavior issues and those are a big issue as to why the schools are so bad. You could build a brand new 10million dollar school and put new learning tools in for every child, but if the kids are out of control acting up than what you end up with is a nice school that cant keep and attract good teachers or good students. If a child got to worry about their safety everyday, how much can they learn?

this is way more powerful than the last one. i'm glad that Nas stretched his creative mind a bit, until he found something hot. the last one looked very low-budget, and screamed "media ploy". it worked. he got press (or at least he got blogged), but this is much better.

I'm riding w/Barack Obama all the way too. But whoever thinks that by him winning the presidency this country's deeply rooted, violent and very real racial issues will go away you better do like School Daze and wake up! I guess people are comfortable with artists crankin' dat and gettin' sillaaaaaaay as long as it don't rock the boat.

Anonymous said...

Thanks for the link. A boy trying to rape his woman principal at school and then going to school next Monday like it ain't nothin'???? GTFOH!!!! That is some sick shit. This is right up there with R. Kelly. Forget being a juvenile this boy needs to be thrown under the jail. I'm sure this isn't the first time he's (tried to) violate, physically and sexually, another. POS!

Anonymous said...

Whatever point Nas is trying to make is obscured by the nigger album and wearing nigger clothes to the Grammys. I believe he lost some credibility with fans.

Quesha said...

Thanx Chic...that article was outta control. These kids need their asses beat.

nas has never and will never know what it means to be a slave...he needs to maybe portray something that he signed a f-ed up contract that didnt let him name his album what he wanted...but, surely thats not even close to slavery...he wouldnt know how to deal with slavery. in fact...he would have been in the house anyway. bad cover g

Anonymous said...

What a stupid album cover! What a whining, poor us, message. Black today are slaves to our own ignorance, which keeps us whining and feeling sorry for ourselves. For every one white person who is racist, there are 100s who are not. Fot the love of God, the WHITES are going to put a black man in the white house. Do you get that? Our biggest problem is that we don't demand anyone to be decent, raise their kids by exampled. All of our down falls are the result of whitey. last time I checked whitey wasn't in my neighbors house when they were beating their kids and hasn't been their to tell the NOT to help the kids with homework. We are fucked if we don't stop with blaming everything that ails us on whitey. All we need are a few more race baiting album covers about slavery.

Anonymous said...

i did see beloved a good movie and yes Oprah did have a tree on her back from getting beaten when she was a slave he needs to come a little better to impress me then this crap here either way i won't be buying it from the store or bootleg i just don't feel Nas like that

Anonymous said...

5:58 thats the kind os stupid shit you say after drinking a glass of bleach.

SMMFH @ whites gonna put a black man in the White House.

you obviously pray to white folks and are primarily concerned about what they think of you instead of what you think of you.

Have a seat.

Anonymous said...

Man, i'ma be honest. I'm as big a Nas fan as the next guy. But the only thing i'm concerned with is whether or not the music is hot.

And I have NOT been impressed by any of these singles i've been hearing. That "i'm a nigga, you're a nigga" shit was wack. I hope that's just some throwaway ish, not reflective of the album as a whole.

Anonymous said...

Oh, and two points.

People, let's remember, when the white man throws you a few crumbs it does not mean all is forgiven. We're so used to being shitted on, that we take a few gestures of kindness (or misread gestures) to mean something it's not. Just because they're voting for Obama does not mean we're being ushered into this utopia of racial hegemony and white acceptance. (How soon we forget the Sean Bell verdict, for example, or that other video that just came out of the pigs swarming those dudes in that car.) Just look at this website's blogroll, and click on "Assault on Black Folk's Sanity". Good stuff there.

2.) Nas is being metaphorical here. Granted, it's borderline in poor taste, but hey, I don't know the man's struggle; I can't tell you whether or not he feels he's being whipped every day. Record labels are notorious for giving dudes the full nine inches, no vaseline and no chaser.

Anonymous said...

Poor you. Poor poor you. Poor poor poor you. Poor poor poor poor you. Poor poor poor poor poor you. If you made it through the first part of this post, you have an understandning of how the white man feels about the black communities whining. Don't bother to blame your own community for its gangster, baby popping, no focus on education, no helping your own kids in school, no accountability for failure way of life. Yep, whitey is there telling you to not use a condom. Whitey is their when your fat momma beats you and doesn't give a shit if you don't do your homework. Yep, its all whitey's fault. At what point in time do you stop wasting your breath looking to blame someone else for your own bullshit and look to yourself and your own community and demand more of yourselves. Oh that's right, you think whitey broke is so whitey got to fix it. You just keep sitting on your front porch blaming whitey. Maybe someday whitey will drive by and magically give you an education, magically give you a sense of responsibility and need to do better for yourself and your kids. Just maybe whitey will give you everything your heart desires...but then again, that would NOT be anough, would it?

Seems over the top, well so does some of the race baiting blame game bullshit that is posted on here all the time. Get the fuck over it. Kids pick on each other and find reason to segregate, adults do it...the world does it!!!

Anonymous said...

@558. well sed. that blame whitey shit is 2 funny in 2008.

Vizion said...

shiiiiiit. Whitey is responsible for a bastardized welfare system. And an easily manipulated Section 8/Township/Income Assistance program. Sense of responsibilty??? When you enable someone to basically live FREELY, u instill a sense of irresponsibility and encourage RECKLESS APATHY...

Whitey cant be blamed for everything, but whitey sure as hell has done its part to maintain the stagnation that the majority of blacks in the "hood" represent...

@verizon 10:11 PM

Without section 8, a lot of sisters would be on the streets with their children. Welfare was/is suppose to be something that one uses teporarialy to pull one self up by the "bootstraps".

Anonymous said...

@10:11pm
if you feel that way, then I surely hope that you wont be voting democrat (you know, as in Obama)
Democrats have been all about that for years, giving the poor people just enough to keep them happy in their nice little poor place, always attached at the hip to the government umbilical cord, socialist way of life.

VIZION.. Not Verizion... lol said...

@Chic Noir... i think u always misspelling my name on purpose..lol and actually, welfare was supposed to be COMPLETELY temporary during the first half of the 20th century. It was implemented to help families who's 'head of household' was at war...it wasn't supposed to be going on for this long.

Without Section 8, alotta sisters would be forced to find REAL JOBS, and apply for grants or take out loans to go to school. Instead of being a fucking parasite to society. When you enable someone to live for free, they dont see much reason to take care of what they have- or strive for something better. I'm sure there are plenty of feel-good stories about Section 8- majority of them though, will clearly illustrate my point.

@Anon 4:36pm...

i did vote for Obama in the primaries because my area is democrat, and the few political ties i endorse locally happen to be Dem... but ill be writing in Ron Paul come this November...

CHIC NOIR said...

@11:02, 5:58, and 5:10 you have a lot of hatred within you. I wonder what happened to you to make you so bitter towards Black people? You sound worse than a grumpy Bill Cosby who hasn't had his Jell-O pudding pop.

@Vizion, Ron Paul is a racist. You won't be doing yourself or anyone else any favors voting for him. You may as well stay home and save the gas.

@Uncle Ruckus: while you are out worshipping white Jesus and all that, learn the difference between there, their, and they're.

Wild Safari said...

@Vizion, you know I hear what you are saying about welfare/sec. 8, but I think it is a bit harsh. I think the majority of people on sec. 8 are trying to use it as a stepping stone to bettering themselves. As for "welfare," the new rules make it nearly impossible to just loaf around and collect a check. People have to jump through a lot more hoops nowadays. They are forced to work or at least look for work. That is, unless they just keep popping out babies, which some do. Having said all that, I do know a lot of lazy-assed mf's who think the rest of us should just support them while they have beer for breakfast, weed for lunch, and x as an after dinner chaser.

5:10 lets really focus our attentions on what white folks really do which is rape, murder and pillage every nation, give them diseases and disenfranchise its people, then turn around and expect the people do repair the damage themselves that fuckin white folks have done.(see Africa) HOW DARE YOU,YOU FUCKIN RACIST CAVEDWELLING PECKERWOOD. I SWEAR I HATE A FUCKIN IGNORANT PERSON WHO LOVES TO STAND IN JUDGEMENT OF OTHERS. WE SEE YOU WHITEY.

wild safari( 9:01 PM)- I agree, and I think welfare should exist for times when people find themselves in a tuff spot. As our economy goes to nothing there will be more people who will fill those rolls just as there were in the early 90's(I read) when we had our last serious resestion(tp) .

CHIC NOIR said...

OH Lord, read 11:55's statement a few times. You hate people who stand in judgement, wtf are you doing? Let me tell you what you are, since you are so quick to call every white person racist. You, and specifically you, are a racist. You aren't any kind of racst, you are the scum of the black community. You want to cry racism, while perpetrating yourself every day. You are likely stupid, poorly raised and have either been raised on hate whitey rhetoric or you found convenient because you are such a failure. Its 2008 dumbshit. If you aren't anything today its because your parents were bad. They didn't focus on education and they didn't teach you to set a goal and go for it. But then again, it is easy to stay stupid and it is convenient to blame whitey. Afterall, it is the era of blame whitey. The whites will move past racism, but the blacks won't because they need think it exists as a major conspiracy. Why? To realize its gone and has been gone for a long time would require every lazy, white blaming piece of shit to admit that their parents were horrible and they aren't capable of doing right by themselves. Remember, it is easy to do nothing, it is hard as hell to get an education. Its been free for your asses for so long, yet you just can't do the work.

I hate every stupid piece of shit who blames others for their own failures. Color doesn't matter. Who you are, as an individual person matters to me. Shit is shit. Simple message...don't be shit and don't blame others.

the rest, good natured or not, are fucking parasites because they can be...

and as far as Ron Paul goes, i think uve been greatly misinformed... this man was the ONLY candidate who talked about REAL CHANGE....

You made my point for me again. I didn't realize this was a "black forum."

I think ANYONE who blames a race for "every major world crisis" is a uneducated, poorly raised piece of shit. So, I think you, based on your statement, are exactly that.

I love the part where you call me a racist name. It adds credibility to the "its all whitey's fault" and only whites are racist.

LOL...could it get any more pathetic. Get past the blind hate and blame and just maybe you will find a better tomorrow for yourself!

@vizion you should do some research on your candidate, Ron Paul. Here is an excerpt from an article on cnn.com. They reference newsletters written by or in Ron Paul's name over a period of years. There are similar articles on The New Republic, Huffingtonpost, the Salon, etc. If he didn't write the articles, as he claims, why didn't he apologize and retract the statements right awY? Who allows someone else to publish bigoted statements under your own name for YEARS without addressing the problem? Wake up and smell the bullshit!
"The controversial newsletters include rants against the Israeli lobby, gays, AIDS victims and Martin Luther King Jr. -- described as a "pro-Communist philanderer." One newsletter, from June 1992, right after the LA riots, says "order was only restored in L.A. when it came time for the blacks to pick up their welfare checks."

Another says, "The criminals who terrorize our cities -- in riots and on every non-riot day -- are not exclusively young black males, but they largely are. As children, they are trained to hate whites, to believe that white oppression is responsible for all black ills, to 'fight the power,' to steal and loot as much money from the white enemy as possible."

Vizion said...

@Wild Safari... there's 37 sides to every story... which one you choose to believe is entirely your perogative...

but you should have copy and pasted the ENTIRE article...lol

............................

In his interview with CNN, Paul said that's language he would never use. "People who know me, nobody is going to believe this," he said. "That's just not my language. It's not my life."

He added, "Martin Luther King, Rosa Parks, Ghandi, they're the heroes [of my life]."

Matt Welch, the editor-in-chief of "Reason" magazine who shares some of Paul's beliefs on big government, says he has never heard the congressman make racist comments like those in the newsletters.

"What I think some people are looking for him to do is to say, 'OK, who wrote that?' I mean, there's 20 years, give or take, worth of newsletters there," Welch said.

Paul said the editor of publications "is responsible for daily activities." But he also cited "transition" and "changes" and said that some people were hired to write stories "but I didn't know their names."

The presidential hopeful described the newsletter revelations as a "rehash" of old material dug up by his opponents because he is gaining ground with black voters due to his stance against the war in Iraq and the war on drugs.

"I am the anti-racist because I am the only candidate -- Republican or Democrat -- who would protect the minority against these vicious drug laws," he said.

"Libertarians are incapable of being a racist, because racism is a collectivist idea."

Wow... I really hate it when folks say and we know who the majority of these folks are that... "we're probably going to have a black president... so why compare life to slaves now... when there is all this opportunity" I mean get out of here with that... they imprison and criminalize black ppl send them to prison for ridiculous crimes- i.e "three strikes" and then make them do labor that pays 2 bucks an hour. That's a kind of slavery. And this not only black people but also many people of color. America is founded on white supremacy and that is that and burdening social and economic inequalities still exist. Explains why the poor get poorer and the rich get richer. The poor being disproportionately minorities and the the rich being the "white".

Point blank.

CMurph said...

Ok. lets go Obama, but that is exactly it. People start talking about black struggle and black issues and use Obama to rationalize their views. I see this cover, and I don't see what all of you talk about, if this was a stab at slavery his back would be bloody. Nas' focus is the scars left by slavery, because its the scars that affect us today, blacks whites asians hispanics, its the scars that our people feel, not the direct action of oppression.

Anonymous said...

If blacks want ot erase the pain of the struggle than they should rise up against the bullshit rap culture that has arisen. What do you think the italians, irish, jews and everyone else did to combat the whites that were already here? Its about busting your ass and seaking education. The issue shouldn't be with whites, it should be with the rich bastards that run the government. Instead blacks are bitter towards whites and engage in the same behavior that they regard as racism. Things have to change on both side.
