As for the movie. I feel 3.5 million was a AWESWOME opening. Especially since it only opened in 686 theaters. I can't wait until it opens here where I live. But by Sony standard the movie made 1/3 of its cost with limited openings.

I actually saw the film, I'm a Mos Def fan and between Columbus Short and Beyonce the stole the movie. I was Suprised how actually good she was. I definately had my doubts but in all seriousness she Did her thing and sang her ass off. Columbus Short was great too, I did't realize just how talented he is , expect big things from him. I recommend this movie It really shows how shady the music business is.

Actually, the movie had the second highest per screen average at $5,102. Considering the low profile, late marketing "push" that's not bad at all. It won't be a big hit, but it will be profitable. I'm a huge Mos and Jeff Wright fan, so I'll check it out during the holidays.
Beyonce is easing into acting, playing roles in her comfort zone (singer, duh!). She's not as good as others that have made that transition (I see you Jill Scott!), but she's attractive, talented and a hot commodity. She get offered MANY more roles in the years to come. Personally, I'm not a fan of her performance of "At Last," but she didn't eff the song up.

I went and seen this movie last night. I was amazed at how this movie was put together in so little time. I admire ALL the actors who portrayed those individuals, esp. Jeffrey Wright, Columbus Short(HE WAS AMAZING, Oscar Nod Pls), AND Beyonce' Carter. Sure any other A-list celeb, could have played Etta James but who? Who can act that part, and sing their lungs out in between? Beyonce. Who favors Jamesetta James best? Beyonce! I've also heard, Halle Berry actually was suppose to be given the role, but Etta WANTED Beyonce' to portray her. She did a terrific job, and on top of that. SHE DID NOT GET PAID
She donated her WHOLE proceeds to the Rehab Clinic that actually aided Etta when she was an addict.

I saw the movie. I'm a fan of Muddy Waters and I'm happy that his story is being told to a new generation. I saw it in Atlanta on opening night, it was the stadium room and the room was packed, so i dunno where the money is going.
Beyonce cannot act. Any black woman can probably play someone fiesty and sexy, cuz most of us are... My only beef was that Beyonce was singing like Beyonce, not like Etta James. Everyone else sounded like who they were portraying not themselves.

Outstanding performances by Jeffrey Wright as blues great Muddy Waters. Mos Def as a articulate , astute business man and performer Chuck Berry. Great music score and a sensational story told. Believe it or not Beyonce's portrayal of Etta James is gritty, and disturbing as worthy of a Oscar nomination as was Diana's Ross' of Billie Holliday. If I didn't already have all of Etta James' recordings I would be pressed to get "I Rather Go Blind". I salute "B" for a heartbreaking, gut retching rendition of it. She made ME feel it. She definitely deserves best supporting actress, remember you heard it from me. YEAH for Beyonce. I will see this film again. Please go this first week if you can.
I am not a fan, but I like some of her songs. They are catchy and upbeat to listen to particularly when working out. Now for the movie, I have not seen it but have seen some of the outtakes and commercials and I don't know. So to me I'm not outraged by her because I'm rarely exposed to her. As for the movie. I feel 3.5 million was a AWESWOME opening. Especially since it only opened in 686 theaters. I can't wait until it opens here where I live. But by Sony standard the movie made 1/3 of its cost with limited openings.

Actually, the movie had the second highest per screen average at $5,102. Considering the low profile, late marketing "push" that's not bad at all. It won't be a big hit, but it will be profitable. I'm a huge Mos and Jeff Wright fan, so I'll check it out during the holidays.
Beyonce is easing into acting, playing roles in her comfort zone (singer, duh!). She's not as good as others that have made that transition (I see you Jill Scott!), but she's attractive, talented and a hot commodity. She get offered MANY more roles in the years to come. Personally, I'm not a fan of her performance of "At Last," but she didn't eff the song up.

I went and seen this movie last night. I was amazed at how this movie was put together in so little time. I admire ALL the actors who portrayed those individuals, esp. Jeffrey Wright, Columbus Short(HE WAS AMAZING, Oscar Nod Pls), AND Beyonce' Carter. Sure any other A-list celeb, could have played Etta James but who? Who can act that part, and sing their lungs out in between? Beyonce. Who favors Jamesetta James best? Beyonce! I've also heard, Halle Berry actually was suppose to be given the role, but Etta WANTED Beyonce' to portray her. She did a terrific job, and on top of that. SHE DID NOT GET PAID

I saw the movie. I'm a fan of Muddy Waters and I'm happy that his story is being told to a new generation. I saw it in Atlanta on opening night, it was the stadium room and the room was packed, so i dunno where the money is going.
Beyonce cannot act. Any black woman can probably play someone fiesty and sexy, cuz most of us are... My only beef was that Beyonce was singing like Beyonce, not like Etta James. Everyone else sounded like who they were portraying not themselves.
The movie was okay, it was narrated by Willie Dixon, but they didn't mention Willie Dixon's albums that he made himself.. but that's hollywood for you.
Mos Def was his usual delicious self. mmmmm..... i love him.
all in all, I'd tell you to wait for dvd.
I went to see the movie and it was great! Everyone did a great job, and there is a seen where everyone in the movie was craying. I'm no stan, but geesh give the girl a break. The whole cast deserve some regconition. Awesome, Awesome movie. It was only realeased on 686 screans and STILL made the in the 10 for the weekend. That says a lot. Thanks.

Outstanding performances by Jeffrey Wright as blues great Muddy Waters. Mos Def as a articulate , astute business man and performer Chuck Berry. Great music score and a sensational story told. Believe it or not Beyonce's portrayal of Etta James is gritty, and disturbing as worthy of a Oscar nomination as was Diana's Ross' of Billie Holliday. If I didn't already have all of Etta James' recordings I would be pressed to get "I Rather Go Blind". I salute "B" for a heartbreaking, gut retching rendition of it. She made ME feel it. She definitely deserves best supporting actress, remember you heard it from me. YEAH for Beyonce. I will see this film again. Please go this first week if you can.
I am not a fan, but I like some of her songs. They are catchy and upbeat to listen to particularly when working out. Now for the movie, I have not seen it but have seen some of the outtakes and commercials and I don't know. To me it needed someone like Faith Evans who has not only lived that low dirty life while messing with Biggie and em, but she also has the pipes to pull it off. I might catch it when it hits the video store.

I think the current music industry is a prime example of why we should have the arts back in the schools and stick our children(I don't have any but I mentor) in group or private lessons.
I volunteer at daycare centers when I have free time and allow the children to play my keyboard as well as play for them a few selections. I allow them to bow my violin but the can't get crazy. I want other people with music knowledge to do the same. All the youth know is what's in a music video the more inner city you go. And it's sad.

no, it wasn't me. i don't do anonymous posts. i did agree with what people were saying about not talking smack about how someone else looks unless you're prepared to go under the microscope yourself. it wasn't me though.
i LIKE my pic. i'm not taking it down until i feel like it. i had a good time that night. i've NEVER insulted the way anyone looks, i don't have that right. i've got my flaws and i'm ok with them. if the only complaint that someone can make about my appearance is my slightly saggy d-cups then i must be doing ok.
