For the record, I'll "pulled a Tiger Woods" when I got married, as my wife is from Scotland and is of German and Scottish descent. However, since I'm about a third each of Western African, Native American and Western European, I felt it was silly to restrict my love/sexual interest exclusively to African-American, when my ancestors obviously did not.

However, just because one third of my ancestors were African, that doesn't mean that I'm going to throw the rest in the trash and pretend they didn't exist. I feel ya. But I don't feel it necessary to pinpoint exactly where I came from every time I am asked, primarily because I am not fully aware of my full ancestry and where we came from. I say black/hispanic because regardless of where I came from I am not ashamed of it.
I did at one time, just out of curiosity, attempt a genealogy research on my family and it got complicated fast. My family is HUGE on both sides and trying to trace that back got complicated fast. I plan on picking up again in the future tho.

On the surface, I don't have a problem with interracial dating, and for the most part I agree with you. My family has been mixed for generations and continue to mix it up. My son is currently only dating white girls, but I hope he'll eventually give the sisters a try. But as far as the Tiger Woods situation, there's so much more than race in that situation that people of lower income status don't seem to realize--that with great wealth goes great power. And the only problem I have with Tiger Woods marrying that white girl is the fact that she was strategically placed in his circle by one of his managers. As a race we have a long way to go for economic and financial independence from white society and white employers who give us the lowest paying jobs to keep us in our place. So when a brother comes up the real issue is why does he always look at what a sister has, but they never look at what if anything the white girl has. The white girl is deemed a price, while the black girl is seen as a gold-digger. And why is it so wrong to desire a man to take care of you. White have taken care of their women for centuries. It's time for black men to step up and stop looking for the woman to take care of them. And if you got some loot, keep it within our people.

I'm going to have to differ with you on this one. For me, personally, whenever I got involved with any woman - be she black, white, blue, green or whatever - I always looked at what she could offer me, as well as, what I could offer her. If the woman's values didn't match my own, and she had no potential financially, intellectually and spirituality, then she could have been as white as the driven snow, or as black as a moonless midnight. And, it wouldn't have mattered, because I didn't stay in such relationships: I don't like being involved with losers, and I don't care what colour they are.
Now, I'm not saying that women that want to be taken care by a man are losers. And, I'm aware that raising kids and taking care of a household is a very demanding job. However, I wasn't looking for a housewife and a mother of my children; I was looking for a partner, and I got one.

Before I left the US, I was making damn near six figures a year. And, because of the nature of the industry and environments I was in, most of the time I would be the only "Black" face in the bunch. I was making just as much money as my white counterparts, and often, more.
Anybody that wants to get a better paying job is free to go get an education and hard work for that. Or, better yet, they can start their own businesses. Don't go around expecting somebody to hand you something, if you're not willing to work for it. Life doesn't work that way.
However, I'm not denying that racism doesn't exist still. I'd be stupid to do that seeing that racism was one of the main reasons I left the US. But, there are plenty of brothers and sisters that do make it in the US, despite the racism they may face on a daily basis.
As for keeping wealth within our own communities: Well, I consider "my community" to be my family and close friends. Everybody else I don't really care that much about. Sorry if that sounds cold. But, that's just how I feel about it. I'll take care of me and mine. And, everybody else is going to have to get their own.

So very true. But on the flip side speaking as a biracial person we're going to get flack from every angle, from not being (insert race) enough to being too (insert race). When asked b/c of my looks and last name what am I mixed with I state that I'm black and part indian and portuguese. I used to just say black but I realized that by doing that I was alienating the other side of my family and that's not cool. My ggrandparents are proud of being Portuguese then why shouldn't I. So if my brothers and sisters get mad that I include everything that I am made up of and not just black then so be it. Why should I misrepresent myself to make some my black people that I don't even know happy? People need to realize that it's not easy being biracial b/c everyone wants you to choose a side. And since most say you are what your father is then I am Portuguese only but that isn't good enough for me b/c I'm proud of being black also. So I don't do percentages I just say I'm black mixed with some Portuguese and Indian.

But, I do these things within the context of my family and friends - in other words, me and mine. Tameka didn't have a heart attack (i.e. myocardial infarction) - if she had she wouldn't be out of the hospital so soon afterward. She went into cardiac arrest (i.e. her heart stopped). And, I'm guessing the doctors put her into a medically induced coma to minimize the risk of brain damage - I can't think of another reason why they would have.
As for people thinking that Tameka is unattractive, well, I don't consider her to be the most beautiful woman I've ever seen either. However, my feeling that way has nothing to do with her complexion.

I guess this IS a matter of opinion, but light, dark, blue or whatever, I personally think that MOST celebrity women AND men are shallow and clueless most of the time. I'm doing this since I've heard so many African-Americans attack each other for not getting involved with the colour they think that person should with. People have a right to love whomever they like; be that person black, white, red, yellow or brown. For the record, I'll "pulled a Tiger Woods" when I got married, as my wife is from Scotland and is of German and Scottish descent. However, since I'm about a third each of Western African, Native American and Western European, I felt it was silly to restrict my love/sexual interest exclusively to African-American, when my ancestors obviously did not.

I feel ya. But I don't feel it necessary to pinpoint exactly where I came from every time I am asked, primarily because I am not fully aware of my full ancestry and where we came from. I say black/hispanic because regardless of where I came from I am not ashamed of it.
I did at one time, just out of curiosity, attempt a genealogy research on my family and it got complicated fast. My family is HUGE on both sides and trying to trace that back got complicated fast. I plan on picking up again in the future tho.

On the surface, I don't have a problem with interracial dating, and for the most part I agree with you. My family has been mixed for generations and continue to mix it up. My son is currently only dating white girls, but I hope he'll eventually give the sisters a try. But as far as the Tiger Woods situation, there's so much more than race in that situation that people of lower income status don't seem to realize--that with great wealth goes great power. And the only problem I have with Tiger Woods marrying that white girl is the fact that she was strategically placed in his circle by one of his managers. As a race we have a long way to go for economic and financial independence from white society and white employers who give us the lowest paying jobs to keep us in our place. So when a brother comes up the real issue is why does he always look at what a sister has, but they never look at what if anything the white girl has. The white girl is deemed a price, while the black girl is seen as a gold-digger. And why is it so wrong to desire a man to take care of you. White have taken care of their women for centuries. It's time for black men to step up and stop looking for the woman to take care of them. And if you got some loot, keep it within our people.

I'm going to have to differ with you on this one. For me, personally, whenever I got involved with any woman - be she black, white, blue, green or whatever - I always looked at what she could offer me, as well as, what I could offer her. If the woman's values didn't match my own, and she had no potential financially, intellectually and spirituality, then she could have been as white as the driven snow, or as black as a moonless midnight. And, it wouldn't have mattered, because I didn't stay in such relationships: I don't like being involved with losers, and I don't care what colour they are.
Now, I'm not saying that women that want to be taken care by a man are losers. And, I'm aware that raising kids and taking care of a household is a very demanding job. However, I wasn't looking for a housewife and a mother of my children; I was looking for a partner, and I got one.

Before I left the US, I was making damn near six figures a year. And, because of the nature of the industry and environments I was in, most of the time I would be the only "Black" face in the bunch. I was making just as much money as my white counterparts, and often, more.
Anybody that wants to get a better paying job is free to go get an education and hard work for that. Or, better yet, they can start their own businesses. Don't go around expecting somebody to hand you something, if you're not willing to work for it. Life doesn't work that way.
However, I'm not denying that racism doesn't exist still. I'd be stupid to do that seeing that racism was one of the main reasons I left the US. But, there are plenty of brothers and sisters that do make it in the US, despite the racism they may face on a daily basis.
As for keeping wealth within our own communities: Well, I consider "my community" to be my family and close friends. Everybody else I don't really care that much about. Sorry if that sounds cold. But, that's just how I feel about it. I'll take care of me and mine. And, everybody else is going to have to get their own.

So very true. But on the flip side speaking as a biracial person we're going to get flack from every angle, from not being (insert race) enough to being too (insert race). When asked b/c of my looks and last name what am I mixed with I state that I'm black and part indian and portuguese. I used to just say black but I realized that by doing that I was alienating the other side of my family and that's not cool. My ggrandparents are proud of being Portuguese then why shouldn't I. So if my brothers and sisters get mad that I include everything that I am made up of and not just black then so be it. Why should I misrepresent myself to make some my black people that I don't even know happy? People need to realize that it's not easy being biracial b/c everyone wants you to choose a side. And since most say you are what your father is then I am Portuguese only but that isn't good enough for me b/c I'm proud of being black also. So I don't do percentages I just say I'm black mixed with some Portuguese and Indian.

And, since most of them are still in the US, and a large percentage of them are Black, I feel that I'm doing my bit in terms of contributing to the larger African-American community as a whole.
I'm not trying to be, nor do I want to be, MLK, Malcolm X or whatever other great Black leader you can think of. So, my contribution is not going to be as large and inclusive as theirs was.

I don't care for tameka but I infact feel sorry for her. She obviously has this done to please/keep usher appeased because she know what she is up against. She should know by now if be married her old stretch marked azz "for better or worse" then she should just fall back and enjoy the ride....I've always said that usher married her because he did not want his son growing up without a father like him.....smdh. But tameka got preggers again which secures her pockets/connection with him regardless if he will eventually will leave those boys are old enough for him to bounce.
my heart goes out to her. people want to talk shit all day, but how many women think if they got married to usher they wouldn't hear the same mess she's gotten? stop frontin yall, most of yall don't look like you belong in nelly videos either. when you're a celeb (like she's become) you're expected to look your best at all times, whether you're on an ice cream run in the middle of the night or picking your child up from school. it must be exhausting. the older i've gotten the more i see its true- we really are crabs in a barrel. since being in college, i've had many black people talk down to me for wanting an education (many people said i should have dropped out once i'd gotten pregnant) and i've had people hate on me for being involved with my child's father (the same chicks that are single and don't know where their children are at are clowning me for living with my son's father and going to school). black folks (especially black women- not all, but you know what i mean) don't like to see others getting ahead. tameka came up, deal with it. she's got a rich, loving husband. he loves her and he loves their children. why is black love so hard for us to accept?

You would think she would at least have an escort, an assistant or something in case she fainted like Solange.
@Houston Girl and anon 9:52 so true so true. I can think of beautiful women of all shades, sizes, etc. It is Tameka's attitude as reported in the press and quoted in her interviews that rubs me the wrong way. She's lighter than Usher and plenty of people like him. It is not always about color.
@Houston Girl I second that part about the previous kids. Whenever I try to accept her and like her, I remember she left her husband and CHILDREN. I can't stand when people, male or female, leave their own children to run away with someone else. Earl Woods did it to his older children, Cindy McCain's dad did it to all his other kids besides Cindy then told the heifer she was an only child. She's repeating that stuff today even though she knows it's not the truth. To me that is abandonment. You NEVER ever see Tameka with those other kids nor does she ever mention them. For a mother to be that estranged from her own flesh is beyond me. I can't even stand it when mine have sleep overs away from home. LOL

Tameka didn't have a heart attack (i.e. myocardial infarction) - if she had she wouldn't be out of the hospital so soon afterward. She went into cardiac arrest (i.e. her heart stopped). And, I'm guessing the doctors put her into a medically induced coma to minimize the risk of brain damage - I can't think of another reason why they would have.
As for people thinking that Tameka is unattractive, well, I don't consider her to be the most beautiful woman I've ever seen either. However, my feeling that way has nothing to do with her complexion.
I've seen quite a few very dark skinned women that I do consider to be very beautiful. Tameka just isn't one of them. ;)

yeah, she def should have waited a few months, but i'm sure she was feeling the pressure. all over the news we see pics of women like halle berry that are back down to size 0 only a few weeks after having a baby. tameka took it too far, yes, but many women feel pressure to get small again after haing a baby. and A LOT of what's going on here is in fact, self hate. like i'd said in earlier posts on her, no body complained when babyface married tracey back in the day, or when eddie married his wife. kobe's parents didn't even show up to the wedding because they hated vanessa. where were all of the posts calling her a video ho and gold digger? but tameka catches hell. let's be honest, dark skinned women catch more grief in the media than lighter complected females. its not just my opinion, its a fact.

I guess this IS a matter of opinion, but light, dark, blue or whatever, I personally think that MOST celebrity women AND men are shallow and clueless most of the time. As far as the pressure goes, that is no excuse to me especially for one to put one life in harm's way. As far as Tameka goes, I think that most people's dislike of her stems from the fact that she comes off as a bitch and selfish. This latest stunt proves just that. If she were a nice and people just dumped on her, then I would say people are being mean to her because of the complexion of her skin, but we can't honestly know because she IS so mean and self-centered.
As far as women of darker complexion getting more grief, I wouldn't exactly say that is true IMO. I can name a whole lotta light complected women who get grief and I can name equally as many dark complected women who catch grief. Quite honestly, I give most people in Hollywood grief simply because they are always on some drama, but I always find that the black people I am most proud of are RARELY ever doing anything in Hollywood. The most upstanding black entertainers are in other areas of entertainment IMO.

i'm light skinned and i have to go to school and work just like everyone else. some of you make it seem like if your light skinned u get shit handed to you on a silver platter and thats just a bunch of bs. if i dont have money for gas i cant tell the attendant, hey im light skinned, give me a break. as far as the media is concerned, yes, it has never been a good role model so why r u surprised. this is why psychologists say not to watch too much tv, because then u start feeling bad about yourself, no matter what u look like. instead of worrying about what the women on tv look like, worry more about what is going on in your community. the real issues that affect the black community, like incarceration, hiv, violence, out of wedlock births, don't see skin tones.

I wouldn't marry a white woman because history tells me that the vast majority of white americans born before 1960 were outright racists. Therefore the odds of her father, mother, grand father, grand mother and their siblings of being racists also are very high. Or at least having racists tendencies & instincts are very probable.
And the Tiger Woods reference is the weakest of all because he doesn't won't to be considered black. So in turn I don't consider him to being black. And like someone stated earlier I too wish that y'all just don't embrace the black/african-amercian portion & just claim the other parts that you are more proud of anyway.
But there is one thing that you can believe when the time comes and you don't have such a choice to make, you best believe that if you don't look white then you will be blacker than any black you've ever imagined!
