Burn

In an interview with U.K. magazine Pride, Nia Long was asked about singers who try to act and Beyonce's performance in 'Obsessed' specifically, to which Nia replied, “I didn’t see ‘Obsessed,’ so I can’t comment, but it’s just not about how talented you are anymore. It’s about, ‘How much box-office revenue will this person generate?’ When you see certain people – we won’t name names – they just don’t have the skill, and no one in their team has said, ‘You need acting classes.”

Go girl!

I know a lot of real actresses have to be po'd that certain folks can buy their way onto a set.

AnRnBThug said...

Co-Sign Nia, I saw Obsessed. It seemed like Beyonce was reading cue cards on the side of the set...TERRIBLE. Watching Her act was like somebody screeching chalk on a Black Board. Bad acting is contagious too...Ya' Boy Idris
was trying to hold it together. Bottom line Hollywood already doesn't have spots for Black Actors so when a spot is open they wanna get somebody they KNOW will pack em in (just because) I'd say to Bey...please don't do another movie. It's clear you "just ain't got it" when it comes to acting.

I think black actresses are really having a hard time in Hollywood.

DaShit said...

That was so messy of that reporter to ask her that...

If she feels like Beyonce has pull (which i dont) why would she commit this suicide...?

Anonymous said...

She was asked the question and she answered it honestly and so there's not need for Beyonce's fans to get sensitive because like it or not it's the truth. It's a shame talented actors get passed up for singers and rappers with no acting talent. Beyonce is just taking up space in a movie a real actress could shine in. I read a few weeks ago it was confirmed she will star as Eartha Kitt in Eartha's upcoming biopic. It's pathetic she still can't accept she cannot act and will ruin another potentially great film.

DaShit said...

Yes, she did answer it honestly but it’s like think! before you say something that could potentially hurt you. She said were not naming names but the interviewer said "Obsessed and Beyonce". That’s stupid (career-wise) to single her out. Why jump on The-I-hate-Bey-because-shes-every-where-bandwagon…? Oh, cause it’s the newest trend; something like that Ventura haircut *giggles*

Should Queen Latifah stop acting? Maybe I shouldn’t use her because she is a good actor but if Bey took lessons and didn’t become any better does that mean she shouldn’t get paid when obviously there is a market for her?

Janet Jackson?
Tyrese?
Mos Def?
All these other cross-overs…?

nia is not lying. the other one is taking perfectly good scripts and ruining them. She does that like what Brittany Spears does to a good beat ruins them

Dashit, she did answer the question honestly! Kudos to her! And how did she offend anyone? She said she didn't see Obsessed, but she was also asked about her views on singers turned actors (I am para phrasing here) and she answered that as well. No harm no foul.

Anonymous said...

Dash!t, Nia hasn't worked in a while anyway, so it's okay for her to "tell the truth and shame the devil." Beyonce is a horrid English language speaker and should never, ever utter anything on the big screen. She can not act and I don't know why she just won't give that OSCAR dream stuff up!SMH

Anonymous said...

Da Shit is Da Stupid

Janet was a child actress so don't fuckin even put her in that category and the truth is the truth Beyonce can not fucking act I didn't see Obsessed either based on the fact that she didn't sound believable in the promo. She is good at what she does but she definitely needs acting lessons. Queen Latifah had her OWN show which means she was a working progress before she hit the movie scene

Anonymous said...

Um....Nia didn't diss Beyonce. The reporter brought Beyonce's name into it. Nia did not call her out.

There are a lot more no-acting-talent black actresses out there than Beyonce. I think Nia was addressing them all and the situation overall.

BEYONCE? Bitch, sit down. Your azz can NOT act OR dance in real life. Further more it is hoes like you that water down the ART of acting. Stick to that damn yodeling you do. While I am at it, get a damn SPEECH coach before you get a damn acting coach. That is all.

Signing for Nia...

bogart4017 said...

Get 'em told girl! and since she didnt see the movie she could not have been addressing Bey. Its clear she was referring to this foolishness of putting singers in movies before they become entertainers or actors. Its been done since the days of Elvis and the Beatles. If Hollywood can turn a buck they'll wheel Akon's babymama out in a barrell!!

DaShit said...

11:45am Go to hell. Ppl like you suck. That.is.all.

To the others: I agree that Beyonce is not a good actor. Not what I'm arguing at all. What I'm saying is I don’t think ppl have to stop what they are doing just because some don’t like it (when its not detrimental to human nature, that is) Read a bitch’s actual comments for ya’ll jump all on my back. Damn. I used Janet because I don’t consider her a good actress, but I don’t feel sick when she’s on the screen. Someone doing what they presumably love doesn’t elicit a response from me. Sorry.

My point on Nia and the interview was why take what was obviously bait? These are both accomplished women; they didn’t need to be pitted against each other. It’s just another way to say there isn’t enough room for Black actresses in Hollywood when there is more than enough. It’s not Beyonce’s fault! If Beyonce disappears it’s not like they are all of a sudden going to hire Nia or anyone else we know as a good Black actress. They are just going to find another marketable woman who would prolly be lighter/tighter/and whatever else than Beyonce.

Instead of crab mentality why not seek out a new opportunity? Beyonce has money for daysssss. Why not reach out to her about opening a production company? Get cha' own and you do the hiring and the firing. I'm all about SisterSpeak. So I'm just a lil’ peeved when we throw stones at each other.

Gabrielle Union said the same thing about Aaliyah when she git the role in Romeo Must Die. This is an age old agrument, and the truth is that it is always about MONEY. It is always about who can generate the most revenue.

No disrespect, because I really like Nia Long, but she cannot carry a movie - nor generate as much money. And don't get it too twisted, the movies that she got her start in were carried by musicians/rappers - Ice Cube.

There is a crossover point, because many actresses decide that they want to try their hand in music.

It works both ways and very few people can do both very well. But you would be a fool not to take advantage of the opportunities presented to you.

It has to be hard when you have been classically trained in something and then someone comes around that has no training and gets "your job". It happens in all types of business, it's real and she's right, but it's it all about business and money, the craft is secondary.

Only1Nikki said...

I got what you were saying Da Shit.

Anonymous said...

Nia look different..not as pretty as i thought.

Anonymous said...

@Da Shit The crab mentality you are mentioning is not warranted IMO, in this case it's just an excuse to justify that some people have no business being in a field they are not good at, when there are others who are qualified to do the job better. That's all Nia was saying. One example is when Megan Good who is an actress released some song a couple months ago and she didn't sound good. Just because Megan could probably get the opportunity to release an album doesn't mean she should try because she's not good at singing. Another example is Terrance Howard trying to be a singer but most people would agree he should stick to acting. This is the same situation Nia is talking about, but in reverse. She was asked by the interviewer about singers who try to act and she simply answered the question. I think you are getting sensitive over Beyonce, because she did not mention names so how is she throwing shade at her? She could have been talking about Alicia Keys or Ashanti for all you know. Are you telling on yourself that you don't think Beyonce is a good actress either by assuming Nia was talking about her?

DaShit said...

@12.32 That! Much more understandable than my rant. Thanks. I’m indebted.

This really spoke to me: …” and then someone comes around that has no training and gets "your job". ..”because it’s the same thing I hear here when my co-workers argue against affirmative action. When I argue its necessities they say we are bitter and need to move on. I'm know it’s very frustrating to feel you have been passed over because of your skin which happens in Hollywood but Bey is on despite her skin. So instead of saying Beyonce’s Bodied Ass is taking all the roles (and taking the risk of sounding bitter to those old Jews), DO SOMETHING!

I DONT THINK BEYONCE IS A GOOD ACTRESS. I said that earlier but let me really clarify that. I really don’t. Love her to pieces, but um, just no. I said Nia took the bait because the interviewer specifically said Beyonce and Obsessed. Nia distanced herself with..."I didn’t see Obsessed..." But she continued to say..."but it’s just not about how talented you are anymore..." which basically says shes talking about Beyonce. It’s like taking things out of context, I agree but look what happened to the POTUS and that pic of that girl. It’s a whole new world and you have to be careful about what you say. That’s all. Nia is not speaking the gospel. Everyone knows Beyonce can’t act.

Hollywood don't give a fuck about nothin' past OPENING WEEKEND because they know that by the time people realize their movies are bullshit, they already cleaned ya asshole out in the first 3-5 days. So a nigga like me downloads and watches a lotta foreign films; just better quality film-making, period. Plus, niggas that can act can't get roles in hollywood no gotdamnway so it's mostly a waste of time.

Anonymous said...

@DaShit Ok I see what you're saying, but I was looking at the reply differently. I was thinking she answered the question separately saying she didn't see Obessed so she was moving on to the next part of the question about singers trying to act. I may be looking at in a naive way lol. She could be talking about Beyonce. Either way, it may have not been a politically correct answer to some, but I'm glad she didn't hold her tongue. Hell she might as well say something about an issue affecting hers and many other folks employment.

DaShit said...

"But you know Bee dont care, its all bout the $$$ for anything she touches." EXACTLY. Trust that Beyonce does not feel embarrassed by her acting. TRUST. Her world is ruled by numbers proceeded by dollar signs. That’s all they care about. She laughs in the face of "Craft" because the bitch is a brand.

Isn’t that how we judge movies now a days? by how much they generate? The good (classic) movies rarely are box office killers. Transformers is hot right? But can we agree it’s not a classic? Megan Fox? Um no. Just pretty (and not really even that...)

Beyonce and my bestest are the same sign and they share a lot of the same characteristics. This is all construed as hate in their minds LOL

I would never allow someone without experience to operate on me, its the same thing......Beyonce is inexperienced and she is making us look bad. Although your statement is a blanket one and not necessarily true, your point is well
taken @

"...Blacks are given anything and we put up with it..."

Someone said in the post concerning Beyucki's new video that we should basically stop bashing her and support her because she's Black. I beg to differ, though, because being a BW doesn't mean I'm required [or should be expected] to support garbage from other Black folks [whether it be the peeps in entertainment or those who provide run-of-the-mill goods and services in my real life]. That mentality is the precise reason why she has displayed ZERO growth: her fans/stans/clit fleas have accepted such subpar work from her and praise her for it, so at the end of the day, why would she feel compelled to do better? From where I sit, though, her star is fading and I think by the end of the year, she will have no choice but to take that break she alluded to a couple of months ago.

Beyonce is an easy target and easy sell - and because, like her or not, she is the hottest name and everybody is using her to sell their
product. If not for her name in this interview, it WOULD NOT BE POSTED ALL OVER THE INTERNET, because most people didn't know anything about the "PRIDE" magazine.

That's why the interviewer, not Nia raised Beyonce's name in particular. Nia knows that Beyonce is not her competition, not even in her acting lane.

But if she had expressed a concern about losing roles to Taraji, or Jada, or Gabrielle, or Viola, or Tarsha or Latifah or Sanaa - wouldn't nobody be checking for the interview or the magazine.

i sooo wish that the term "hater" would cease to exist. just cuz u r a stan of somebody, doesn't mean that everyone else will be a stan. and just because we don't hold the same folks in the same regard as a deity, doesn't automatically equate with "hating."

I am glad that she gave an honest answer. now maybe someone, though i doubt it, will pull her ass to the side.

i can't sing worth a lick. that absolutely means that if the opportunity presnted itself for me to be a singer, I WOULD TURN IT DOWN. i am not gonna make a fool out of myself trying to sing when that isn't what i am good at...but hey, that's just me.

Though the interviewer threw out Beyonce's name, this is really about Oscar winning Jennifer Hudson. There were a lot of actress sisters mad about that, because Jennifer at the time had nothing about American Idol behind her, and she didn't even win. They were hot that she got the role, and when they started talking oscar, that was a slow boil for all of them.

Beyonce is no Nia, but evidently, Nia is no JHud.

Anonymous said...

Nia, PREACH! You spoke nothing but the truth!

Mista Jaycee said...

I can agree with her to an extent. If someone got the idea that Nia, could sing or dance she'd get a deal before a ton of professional and deserving singers got deal one. This is a business and you have got to take this with a grain of salt.

Beyonce is not the best actress but Nia has taken some jobs from someone that was totally deserving cause she was Nia. Hence, the number of professional voice actors that missed out on the Clevland show cause Nia got a spot.

Anonymous said...

@ 6:04

How do you figure? What actresses/singers, aside from Fantasia, complained about JHud being in Dreamgirls? Hundreds of actresses auditioned for the role of Effie, and Jennifer was picked. That is a whole different thing from producing movies and placing yourself in the starring role rather than compete with other actresses. Furthermore, all the awards and positive reviews that JHud received prove that she was the right person for the role.

Anonymous said...

So what's your point? JHud was the right actress for the role. But the tag line for Nia's interview on the front cover says " If you're a singer, not an actress, then you should sing".

If Jennifer Hudson had taken that advice, she wouldn't be the Oscar winner that she is today.
And she has been in 4 headline movies since Dreamgirls.

People need to except that the world is competitive.

Samuel Jackson was saying the same thing not long ago, that he wouldn't go any movies with no rappers, but guess what? The rappers were doing the movies without him and he changed his tune quick.

Nia said it herself i the interview "it's not about talent". Business people want to make money, so they go to the money makers.

Of course, like anything else, this too will pass and it will be someone else. But the money is going to drive the action - that's just what it is.

This is not new, people forgot about all those House Party movies, not a real actress in none of them at first, but they kept making them and they made money. And Martin and Queen Latifah weren't the best actors then, but they got better. It's all business. Get in where you fit in...and sometimes you have to make your own spot.

Beyonce wants to be a icon so she feel she got to gobble up everthing that comes on her silver platter, that don't make you a icon when you get up there and make a fool out of yourself, and everybody know you can't act but scared to say something, and matthew aka deputy dog don't scare nobody, Who is he suppose to be the mafia? Thats why music is a joke right now they make any kind of crap and shove it down our throat, and we sit back and they it, voice your opinion we still have that right and it ain't hating it's just calling a ace a ace and a spade a spade.Yall know shit is messed up, we the people can make a change, what are you scared of? let's get back to real actresses and singer that had passion for thier craft!

That's right Nia! Beyonce is NOT God so why the hell should anybody be afraid to speak the truth about her? I like B as a music entertainer but would never pay to see her act. EVER.

see this is what happens when people post with knowing or without thinking. Madonna acted in more than 20 movies / TV shows, and Britney has had her share. What does this have to do with white people?

And what does this have to do with someone operating on you. Acting ain't "doctoring" LOL unless you playing one on TV. Being a physician requires a lot of education, certification and testing - some actors just show up.

And what does Eartha Kitt being well rounded have to do with a damn thing?

All these blended topics that don't make a bit of sense. Just say, I don't like Beyonce because that's what everyone else says.

black women should stick together...It's like I can hate on my family but YOU can't.hopefully nea wasn't hating:do it behind closed doors not IN FRONT OF WHITEY!!!!!LOL

TRUST, TRUST, DAT...SHE DOES NOT "BECOME" HER CHARACTER.reading from que cards as mentioned by another critic ABOVE, just hit the nail on the head!and that new group "riche gurl" the one that sounds like B screaming, please someone tell this group to stop screeeeeching and go put on a skirt cause their bodies is not equal too, in ANY way, to CEECEE.

Movies, just another DUMB DOWN in visual effects ATM machine. Like Rapping has turned into a culture thing of Hip Hop instead of the sometimes revolutionary voices of the voiceless and sometimes just good fun on the dance floor, Oh I forgot everybody's a thug now, and FAKE thugs don't dance they stand around with they MAN's and hate on the brothas loving the ladies calling them gay. Real Rappers had to go underground. Now we are being VISUALLY Matrix-ed into this money making scheme of the usual suspects (White Folks) by Black KNEE GROWS without conscious boundaries. If it ain't Terrance Howard trying to make BillBoards Top 40 it's Bey trying to follow in the footsteps of Ms. Hudson and get in bed with old Oscar, Jay-Z obviously ain't doing his job right, Bey need to sit down start going though prenatal catalogs. Talking about she scared to have a baby, from what I hear about Jay-Z she taking something the size of a baby in the boudoir. Anyway ain't nobody going to see Bey for her thespian skills and the women went to hear and see Stringer Bell LOL Idris that brotha got mad acting skills and a Nia Long might have brought the movie some credibility, oh, I forgot the Machine banked Booty-bility, even action movies look like some ole' fake a$$ video games now, yeah some can multi task but Nia was dead on spot no matter who the shoe fits. Some of these knee grows need to do like Lupe Fiasco said, "Flatly refuse to DUMB IT DOWN" come on it's not like she needed the money. But that's what this NO boundaries society has become, an ends with no meaning in it. Snitchesssssssssssssssss

Movie roles being taken over by singers/rappers, etc has been going on for awhile now-- it is about tickets sales and artists have a built in fan base (Ice Cube, Ice T, Ludacris, Whitney, Beyonce, Kelly Rowland (tv mostly), Mariah, Madonna, Bobby Brown, and if B really did get $10-20M in residuals for doing "Dreamgirls" why woudn't she continue acting?? Takes a whole lot of cd sales to make that kind of cheese ...In the end it is all about paper- sad for trained actors where that is their passion-- but it is all business....

Anonymous said...

I am no beyonce stan but I have much respect for her I love me some Nia but I think Beyonce gets a bad rap.

Okay she can't act but beyonce isn't in charge of how many African american roles are out there. The establishment has us fighting over scraps.

WHen she first came out I thought she was a gimmick but after seeing her staying power in an industry that spits women out. The game has to be respected. With the full resect it is due.

There is a graveyard laundry list of female singers actress that fell way off. Shout out to Monique big girl still finds a way to work.

Anonymous said...

Finally some common sense comments.

Anonymous said...

She is absolutely correct. This has been a big issue in black hollywood for years. Tyler Perry may not have the best movies as some of us would like to see, but at least he is doing his part in hiring black actors with talent. It would be great if more directors would step up to the plate and do the same.

Anonymous said...

The problem is there is no "Black" hollywood. It's hollywood, and you have to diversify yourself and your skills enough that you aren't just relying on typical roles for black females. Break the mold.

I agree Tyler has definitely done his best and is putting good work in, but how long before these same black actresses and actors start riding him because they weren't selected for his roles either?

The singers were an easy target for this story, but Taraji worked a lot this past year, those were roles that may have gone to Nia in the past. Understand your time comes and your time goes, people who understand that get ALL the work in when the time is right, because it does not last forever.

Anonymous said...

this magazine is a lil' messy anyway. nia didn't "lash out" she just answered a question. but they using beyonce's name just like everyone else, to make money.

Anonymous said...

@8:44 There is a black hollywood. If you haven't heard the term before but it refers to the black acting community. You are looking too deep into Nia's reply. All she is saying is that some singers and actors are not qualified for the roles they have gotten and they should respect the craft enough to take acting courses. Simple as that. That's not hate, it's the truth.

DaShit said...

8:59. You said that!

Anonymous said...

@9:09 I have heard the term before and know exactly what they are referring to, but it's a misnomer because it order for it to be a "Black" hollywood, it would suggest that Black folk run it - and they don't. They can't commission their own movies or projects or even their own roles.

am not hating on mzjay-z but pleeassssssse she's over exposed and her acting is horrible, most of us have been given a talent and her's was let's say singing cuz he sure was'nt acting,i support my ppl regardless but baby -gurl and leave the acting to the pro's

Nia did not lie one bit! You know, everyone may not be meant to do everything, so let Beyonce sing, and nothing else. Actors don't always make the best singers either. Stick with what you know.

Don't forget Mario Van Peeples and Gordon Parks.

Nia is right. But also guilty of the same thing. Nia can't act either.

Love Jones could have been 1000 times better had she been able to act. She was laughable in Big Mamma's House, for cryin' out loud. Nia is beautiful, and that's it. And in her case, she couldn't act AND wasn't fillng seats at the theaters.

The selection of black actresses that can REALLY act is very, very, small.

We black folks are sometimes our own worse enemy. If you fall off your ridiculed.

You continually reinvent yourself your over exposed.

Takeing the bait Life argueing about our own people's success. Life at the top in this industry is brutal. I remember lela rachon angela basset. Alfie Woodard,Theresa Randle,Lynn Whitfield.

Worthy Actresses That had really no worthys scripts tossed there way. No matter how ggod they act. They fawn over Julia roberts and angelina but keep regina king as the housewife.

If you would have told me in the mid 80's That Dana I mean Queen latifah Would have went to cover Girl I wouldn't have believed it but you have to change and Hollywood only seems to allow select few in.

One thing I think Bee knows is that her days are numbered due to Hollywoods over the top requirements of women. Make what you can make while you can.

You know, I've always had a problem with so-called "artists" who try crossing over into another art and have absolutely no damn business there.

What pisses me off about Beyonce is, she and her ego are attempting to conquer every possible medium there is and I highly doubt it has anything to do ambition, determination or pleasure. It strikes me as greed and an over-inflated ego.

Take Madonna, for instance. Great entertainer, blah singer, terrible actress, loads of ambition. Except for adopting the African kids, we don't see her trying to take over the world like Beyonce!

Beyonce's got the fake Loreal ads, cheesy clothing line, dollar store-grade stank perfume, Amex ads, the Sports Illustrated spread, and the list goes on....

Instead of trying to take food out of the mouths of REAL actresses, I'd love to see her stay in her lane or even possibly create her own production firm (like Tyler Perry) so that Black actors can start thriving.
But that will never happen. She and her camp are too jealous to see any of her peers succeed.

How many roles have Beyonce have. Maybe I am missing something or out the Loop but I remember her in austin powers,Etta James and obsessed. That is not alot to me.

As far as commercials go The business are believing that she sells product so they pay to use her to sell and she charges. Like anyone would. The same as bruce springsteen and alot of other artist.

If they was paying me I would be out there like let me upgrade you. LOL

If Who's that girl didn't flop she would probably still be doing movies.

I have to agree with her 100%. I mean seriously how many talented black actor's/actress in hollyweird who have spend years honing their skills, auditioning for parts, pounding the pavements, taking acting classes and graduating schools like Juliard and can't get decent part and here you have TI starting in a movie with Denzel? Beyonce getting choice roles that could have gone to more qualified black actress. I don't want to see seasoned actors actors in a movie with these hacks. I don't want to see Don Cheadel in movie with Lil Wayne. if these fools want to act, then do like a Master Pete and release their own hood movies targeted at their stans. and leave acting to the professionals.

Anonymous said...

lol, well said Nubian!

Anonymous said...

I'm sorry what "choice roles" has Beyonce gotten? The same people that are bitchin about her roles would laugh at a person who claimed them to be of any signigicance!

What the hell ever, this is the same song different artist. Black actors have always fought over the scraps they were handed. Even if they weren't given to Beyonce, do you morons really think they'd be given to any other black actress?
If you are able to (I know alot of you arent)take Beyonce out of the equation, Please list the number of movies that have starred a black actress? that have had major box office success?......................(waiting)

Im not mad at Beyonce, just like Im not mad at Whitney for Bodygaurd, or Janet for any of the roles she butchered. Yeah they are all bad actresses/singers, but hell there are alot of bad actresses alone that wouldve filled the same roles.

Anonymous said...

DaShit...agreed! People need to step their game up, take some singing lessons, get a clothing line...stop complaining. Every business is competitive. Get over yourself.

Anonymous said...

There are too many examples of creative folk crossing over into other areas for Nia's comment to even make sense. As a non-actor, singer who is in her first play in Los Angeles, I am sick of this debate. Had me feeling guity for a minute about being offered roles but now...bump em!!

Anonymous said...

^^You clearly missed the point. She didn't say ALL singers shouldn't get roles, only the ones who can't act.

Anonymous said...

@Nubiangoddez I ditto your statements. And for those that live by the old boots straps & cross over the imaginary bridge, lets peep reality. 1. If a role is advertised with L.DiCaprio, Brad Pitt, George Clooney, Ben Stiller or F-ing Jonas Brotha's etc. as a leading man 99.9% of time a Black actress will NOT be seriously considered as a co-leading actor or love interest. And even in movies featuring Black actress it is rare that a chocolate actress is picked over a mixed race or light toned black actress as a leading actress without the baggage of buffon scenes being her major focus. Yet, on the other hand a white, Hispanic etc. is easily choosen in so called black films as leading or love interest to black men(this Christmas, jungle fever, In the mix, most videos, all new dance movies, soap operas etc. So this issue is wayyy deeper than rapper/singer turned actress, seems to me black people are wayyy more color-struck than anybody, so wouldn't you expect them to feed off the paper bag test we enforce more than anybody. And as far as Hollywood goes, if we haven't learned that we can only have one starting black actress during any given era. What have we learned, not a damn thang but hey if you can find one black entertainer in hollywood today that will place community over individualism for the progressive greater good of the unit of black people, openly and loudly, I'll sit on a backwoods Alabama porch in summer, with a glass of kool-aid and no fly swatter for a week, snitchesssssssssssssssss

Excellent posts. How does hollywood think of black folks.

Halle won an oscar for boneing Billy bob
denzel got one for being a gangster
Forrest for being a dictator
hattie maid
whoopie gypsy

Beyonce doesn't have that much pull. Unlike alot of White stars who ride there fame long after it passes black actresses/artist once the time has passed don't have the same luxury. That is why patti labelle had to start doing tv cook books etc.

Smart ones diversify or like holly robinson peete snag a money maker.LOL

We as black folks spend money yet have the least say about what is presented. We are so messed up we hardly support our own.

We will go see denzel or tyler but buy bootleg everything else black. Look and treat black owners like they are ripping us off. We have to get it together.

First off, I agree that Beyonce is no Angela Bassett but neither is Nia. You can't lose a role if you are not a sought off actor or actress. The script is written with an actor in mind. So Nia step your game up! Don't hate on those that you feel don't deserve it because they started off in a different direction. Remember, you started off as a video hoe. You were one of Luke's girls. How many directors did you suck off for a role. Hmmm. John singleton is one. Evreryone has their time to shine. You did in the 90's.

Anonymous said...

Nia did nothing but speak the truth, which she has definitely earned the right to do. She is a true actress! Also, whoever said she hasn't worked in a while needs to get their facts straight. Nia works all the time. Look it up on imdb.com But she could be working a lot more if these execs would stop giving these roles to non-actors such as Beyonce. Nia said nothing about Beyonce's acting and she's not the first one to speak out about these singers/rappers/athletes/reality peeps turned actors! More real actors need to speak out!!!

pree315 said...

Ok first off Nia is no Halle berry Robin Givens Jada Pinkett Angela basset Lynn Whitfield Lela Rochon I think she should just shut da hell up because if she were a true die hard actress she would have known that since movies began actors were also dancers and singers I get what she means but its not like she could carry a film on her own she never has she is always the supporting actress and not even the best one at that I like Sanaa lathan more then her she can carry a film and doesnt seem fake Doris Day was both Lucille Ball was an actress comedian in one so was Marilyn Monroe, Eartha Eartha Kitt, Dorthy Dandridge, Julie Andrews Catherine Hepburn Judy Garland Shirly Temple all the actors in west side story Anne Margrett, Josephine Baker Elvis Prestly,Patrick Swayzie Sammie Davis jr he was also a tap dancer oh and before I forget Tupac Shakur he was a rapper but he was also a trained actor in Boston and a poet along side Jada Pinkett! Will Smith as well so plzzz you aint workin because you cant bring in the dough thats not beyonce's fault. Hell nah she cant act but its not her problem that Nia is old now and her time has passed she should never insult actor'singers like that Hillary Duff not bad janet not bad lindsay wasnt that bad either. Mugs should stop hatin n step aside. She cant carry a whole film by herself anyway. Whitney and Vannessa Williams can and they sing too. I think eminem did an awesome job in 8 mile he carried that film and i know it was based on him but that doesnt make it all that much more esay because you still have to correctly convey the emotions on screen and because he is a rapper it made it easy for him to be in front of people be in front of a screen because he is used to it mistakes in a movie can be edited out but not if you are in front of a thousand people performing a song wtf is her problem? Stop Hatin umma stop there.

DIANA ROSS SHOULD HAVE GOT THE OSCAR FOR LADY SINGS THE BLUES AND THATS ALL I HAVE TO SAY!!!

Anonymous said...

Nia told the truth, for the people getting upset over her honesty build a bridge and get over it. Most of y'all are only getting mad dismissing what she said as hate is because Beyonce was mentioned and that was the interviewer's fault. If you can't see there is a scarcity among talented actors getting roles and a lot of that is due to the fact directors want to be lazy and hire non-acting singers and rappers to use them as promotional tools because they already have a following, you are delusional. Directors with that mentality won't give real actors the time of day and that is all Nia is saying. Case closed.

Anonymous said...

@9:58 AM
100% cosign - Lady Sings the blues was the sh*t. The film industry is money driven, and Beyonce knew that if she put her money and name behind it then she would generate some more money to put in the bank. I don't care for her acting but hell, if your hot now go ahead and make as much money as you can, because one day there will be another entertainer who comes a long and takes the spotlight. So let B do her thing even if it's not quality, she's just concerned about the quantity. Life goes on...........
