Michael Jordan's Son Cost His School $3 Million Contract

because he refuses to wear Adidas. Marcus Jordan plays basketball for the University of Central Florida and UCF has [or had] a contract with Adidas that requires their players and coaching staff to ONLY wear Adidas and ONLY use Adidas equipment, but Marcus will only play in Air Jordans. After the freshman guard showed up for an exhibition game wearing his Jordans and Adidas ankle straps, Adidas pulled the plug on the school's contract saying, "The University of Central Florida has chosen not to deliver on their contractual commitment to Adidas. As a result we have chosen not to continue our relationship with them moving forward."

Please spare me yall b.s. I am a girlie girl and if a MJ was my daddy guess who shoes I would be wearing? HIS! PERIOD. From the sneaks to the boots. All that is about to happen is.....

The school will now be a Nike or Jordan Affiliate.

If MJ does pull out the checkbook and go in contract with them he will make his money back before the season is over. I bet the boys/coaches/staff will enjoy their Jordan Gear too.

On the other hand, it's like a Coca-Cola employee drinking Pepsi, it ain't right. You can't go against the ethics/principles.

But yeah, he'll be probably receive some shit for this for years to come (regardless if he stays at UCF or not).

Seems to be an arrogant ass just like his dad. probably ain't even that good of a ball player, they just tolerated him because of who is dad is, but if his ass can't play like his dad, yt is not about to lose a lucrative endorsement and not be compensated with another one. over some mediocre player regardless of who his damn daddy is, the almighty dollar if yt's god.

Juanita, go get your son.

he just proud of his father.

Forget all this shoe deal shit and get onto more important issues like freeing O.J.

Anonymous said...

This school probably won't make it anywhere near a championship while he is playing, and if he was really about something on the court he would probably be at a different school.

@ Anon 12:28

Amen! If he is so great why he's not at North Carolina, Duke, U-Conn I rest my case. He desevre to wear Adidas he's a Michael Jordan Bootleg.

This school didn't "lose" any money behind this lil' negro, this school "forfeited" money behind this lil' negro.

one side of the story always makes for funny comments...if you dug deeper, youd learn that Marcus Jordan brought up this exact scenario to the college recruiter when he was being recruited-- supposedly they told him that it wouldnt be a problem.

Anonymous said...

School administrators should have shown him who is boss or shown him the door. A student is in school for only so long, regardless of who they are or where they come from, and a short term decision may not be the best decision for the school in the long run.

So What? said...

Why is everyone mad at Marcus Jordan? I live in Orlando, where he attends college. The University of Central Florida has been using him for their entire marketing campaign. They are not a big name program but when he agreed to attend school there, ticket prices doubled. THEY made promises before he signed with the school, fully aware of their own agreements with adidas, that he could wear his family shoes.

It's NOT Marcus' fault. The person at fault, is whoever made the promise to him during recruitment that he could wear Jordans. When these schools are recruiting players they can't just make promises and not live up to them. THAT person cost the school $2 million. THAT person should have cleared it with adidas before promising Marcus that he could wear his Jordans. THAT person, didn't do their job and perhaps should be fired.

When negotiations are done properly and up front, schools can work it out with their sponsors for exceptions to be made. Look at my school, the (most amazing) University of Florida. We serve Coca-Cola in our stadiums, BUT because we are Florida we also serve Gatorade instead of Coke's Powerade.

It's the way the school went about it. It's the University of Central Florida's fault. They had the contract with adidas. They made the promises to the potential recruit in order to make signing with their school more appealing than signing with another. They need to take responsiblity.

So What? said...

And actually... The students are not upset with him. All they care about is the slight chance that they might see Michael Jordan at a game this season.

It is amusing though, how some of you are so opinionated and quick to call this 18 year arrogant and all sorts of other names when you don't even know the details surrounding his decision to wear his own shoes.

Anonymous said...

Excuse me but since when does what shoe a dude wear play into his recruitment and Dint this boy KNOW the team was wearing Addidas HENCE him Wanting them to make an excpetion for HIM to wear Jordans,,,Get the fuck outta here!
He came in wanting to be a team player (sic) he not even going pro so wTF

Anonymous said...

they don't care.. they about to be sponsored by team Jordan which is better than Adidas anyway!

So What? said...

Obviously, the fact that he's a Jordan brought the shoe into the conversation. The fact that UCF wanted to use the Jordan name to sell tickets, made them make promises they couldn't keep.

It's not the student-athletes' responsibility to make sure all is good with adidas. He didn's sign the contract with them. The school shouldn't have promised it if it wasn't okay. They cost the entire athletic program a shoe deal over one player. Stupid.

I've worked in Division I and professional athletics. That sort of thing does come up in the negotiations. If you don't know, be quiet.

Anonymous said...

So typical. Some people are more concerned about athletics than they will ever be about academics.

12:19 you ain't right!! lmao!! "freeing oj." lord. anyway, i see both sides of it. he probably made a promise to himself to ONLY wear his dad's sneaker. i can't be mad at that. and for those that are afraid that the school will lose bread- trust and believe that nike is gonna swoop in and save the day.

JUST BEING TY!!!!!! said...

SOME OF THESE CELEBRITY KIDS' ARE TOTALLY FUCKED UP, BUT WAIT MOST OF THEM COME FROM FUCKED UP PARENT(S)!!

The school should have stuck to their guns and told him to wear the Adidas shoes and not his Nike. If he did not adhere to those rules, then they should have kicked off the team. The school has no one to blame but themselves.
Also, these people need to realize that this is Michael Jordan's son and not Michael Jordan.

Anonymous said...

I dont get it ,,if he refuses to wear Addidas why does he have to refuse if it was in HIS contract to wear Jordans??
The bottom line in recruitment there are guidelines and nego. team attire is not one of them ,,otherwise you would have all types of shit on the court -hell they might even want to wear pink socks.
The school is waitin on Nike and just needed an excuse to get rid of All day

If Nike or Big Daddy Jordan gave up one thin dime to this school I would be surprised. Just the comments alone that I've read on this very site makes believe Jordan is not giving them anything more than tuition.

Anonymous said...

He may not even be giving them tuition fees. He may have gotten a legacy scholarship waiver of some sort, based upon his family name and history. Some people are shallow like that, especially professionals that are trying to climb the corporate ladder with their own agenda. They'll do all kinds of stupid stuff and make all kinds of deals, just because a famous person or name is involved.

I don't follow the NFL much, but I know Denzel Washington's son had/has? an NFL contract and I hear he is/was? a mediocre player. Perhaps someone on this blog that knows about how that one turned out can elaborate on it.

C0-sign with 2:25 and 2:31. Who in the hell wears Adidas anyways?

'Nuff Said said...

Actually, adidas did tell the school that it was alright for Jordan to wear his own shoes. The problem was, that the people who gave the okay from adidas did not have the authority to do so.

Still though, it's not Marcus Jordan's fault. He was told that it was okay to wear Jordans by UCF. UCF was told that it was okay by adidas. The people they spoke with at adidas were unfortunately, not at the executive level and have caused all this commotion.

That said, without this controversy NO ONE would give a damn about UCF's basketball team. NO ONE would even notice what brand of shoes they wore, and adidas wouldn't be getting all this free publicity. Just like NO ONE cares about UCF's football team, or the fact that their no-name kicker hasn't worn adidas throughout his entire career there.

The school athletic administrators probably wanted to give him a chance to play ball because they think he might blossom like his father did. Papa Mike reportedly wasn't exactly the greatest player on the courts when he first started playing ball, but continued to hone his craft and eventually became a virtual genius at it. That being written, add me to the list of people that don't believe Junior will successfully be able to follow his father's footsteps. Good luck with trying though.

MJ needs to get his checkbook out and write a check for the athletic department, this is a damn shame, this is another case of riding the families coat tail, even when you DON'T have talent. Just ask Solange Knowles and the whole Jackson Klan, excluding Janet. His father the GREAT Michael should be embarrassed.

Anonymous said...

are you serious, of course MJ planned this, come on there will be a contract w Jordan/Nike the school wont lose jack...they will regain that lost 3 mil plus,,,MJ has already signed the check.
