It's kinda crazy how you all sit up here and talk about Aaliyah just being an "average singer, or a sure flop." Because she wasn't headed anywhere near that road. If you listen to; At Your Best [the original version], The One I Gave My Heart To, Choosey Lover, Journey To The Past, and when she sang The National Anthem at only 15 you can tell that her voice was above what most of you people consider "average."
I agree she wasn't a Whitney, Janet, Aretha, or Mariah but she did have vocal range and skill and to be honest if you listen to some of her songs off her albums and then some of her best live performances you can see that she kept her voice at a certain tone when she performed on CD.
But a majority of her live performances showed that she had more depth and soul to her voice than she let be known on her albums. That's why a lot of people wonder about what her music would have came to at this time. We can only speculate, but when she really just let everything she had come to recognition on stage when she was really at her best,
people could see and FEEL that she was going to be more than just an "average" singer.
