This Story Never Gets Old

or should I say Dame never tires of telling it.

Another retelling of how Jay Z stabbed Damon Dash in the back.

From The Village Voice
There's no shortage of people who've made and squandered fortunes in the entertainment world. But [Damon] Dash's crash was magnified by the success—totally unprecedented, really—that Jay-Z has enjoyed. It would have been acceptable if the rapper had reached an artistic peak after the Roc-a-Fella break-up, but his most notable accomplishments came in Dash's supposed realm of expertise: marketing, branding, endorsements, and a spiderweb of business deals, including a small stake of ownership in the New Jersey Nets. In 2006, "Lost One," an early Jay single after his "retirement" hiatus, included what appeared to be a line directed at Dash: "I heard motherfuckers sayin' they made Hov/Made Hov say, 'OK, so make another Hov'/Niggas wasn't playin' they day role/So we parted ways like Ben and J-Lo." Both the winner and the loser were clear.

Tension [between the two] had been mounting for more than a year, starting when Dash appointed Cam'ron, a crony from Harlem, one of the label's vice presidents, while Jay-Z was vacationing in the Mediterranean. Eventually, Jay decided to sever business ties with his fellow [Roc-a-Fella] founders; their stake in the company was sold back to Island Def Jam for a reported $10 million, while controlling interests in the remaining clothing, film, and alcohol ventures were sliced up. Jay signed a three-year contract to become president and CEO of Def Jam—a position he would leave in 2008 for Live Nation. He offered the rights to the name "Roc-a-Fella" to Dash and Biggs in exchange for the recording masters to Reasonable Doubt, but the pair wouldn't make the deal. "We all earned those masters," Dash says. The people that I was helping, once they realized their dreams, they did what a criminal would do. They stabbed you in the back. Think about the frustration of building a brand for years that should be taking care of your family, and then the person that was the closest to you saying, 'Nah, you can't have no parts of it,' and flushing it.”

yea, fuk jayz, Dash was a drunk and didnt make the best decisions in regards to his career but he didnt deserve to be shitted on like that. You idiots in this comment section are so damn stupid. Jay shouldve gave the dude his parts, and then parted ways. Jay stepped on mad niggaz to get to the top and when he falls, a lot of niggaz will be there dancing on his grave

I read that whole article when it came out, it was a good read too. Dame got everything He deserved, He's a slick talkin' hustler. He made bad investment after bad investment. I think Jay probably bugged this dudes office or something cause He just cut Him off Quickly & completely. It’s easy for us to say how we would treat a “friend” But we don’t know the intrecasies of their relationship, to me Dame is a snake.
I first noticed that when Aaliyah died and He was up there crying & talking about how He was gonna Marry Her (Bullshit) He was just guttin’ it out for the time being. Dogz she was just some side Pussy to you, so play your position. Then He lied lied lied (Pro Keds, Armadale…claimed ownership) This experience has humbled Him which is good but if He doesn’t continue to grow in Positive way fools usually forget their past mistakes.

Business is business!! Dame should not have been making major decisions about the label without all parties agreeing (meaning Jay and Biggs). How are you gonna make sorry a$$ Cam'ron a VP. Dame and Biggs left with millions and if he was all that he would still have millions. Dame is lame....next!!

I knew this shit wasn't going to last when I saw "Big Pimpin". Lame Dame just looked so out of place, like a hanger-on, free-riding, parasitic groupie.

He keeps placing the blame on Jay but from the stories that I've read, Dame wasn't too responsible with his money and made a lot of bad money decisions. At one point, he claimed that he was worth $50 million. I read the full article about a week ago.

Shit, I remember some documentary made on this fool back in the early 2000's and specifically remember his ass bragging that he wears a BRAND NEW white tee and designer socks ONE TIME then TRASHES them. WTF? He brought a lot of his financial downfall on himself.

Fuck his arrogant ass.

Dame reminds me of CHRIS BROWN.

LMAOOOO@10:33....Dame look like he looking in the markdown section of the dept store. I dont know if what i heard was true or what. But if it was, Id be mad at Dame too. Jay said he got tired of being at business meetings and "people" would scream and carry on bullying people (obviously talking about Dame), when Jay rather talk calmly and not burn bridges. Plus Dame making Camron, who probably has a 8th grade education a VP of the company. This is the same dude that said he wouldnt let the police know if a pedophile lived next door to him. THEN, Dame is in Camron video where he disses Jay, using J.J Evans to act as JayZ. Fuk Dame. Those days of pouring champagne on broads, while u try your best to flex those 1/2 ass muscles, with your curry goat guts are over. JayZ was the brand at RocAFella...nobody thought about Dame. If he such a good business man, he should be able to do it again. But he cant, cuz he know it was really about Jay.

Dame got the short end of the stick he made a lot of enemies and did the dirty work building and establishing respect for Roc A Fella. The most important aspect of Roc A Fella becoming a major brand was the solidarity that they had as "street dudes" that ran a corporation. The fans loved to see them make it and be brash against anyone who contested thier movement. With repect to him making CamRon VP was a 50 percent good50 percent bad desicion Cam and his Dipset crew were on the come up and were killing the mixtape circuit and if they couldv'e made a lot of money for Roc A Fella but so it wouldnt feel like a hostile takeover Jay shouldv'e been consulted. I just left NY and Harlem and Brooklyn don't get along to this day...

These two just won't quit. They gonna end up like Walter Matthau and Jack Lemmon in Grumpy Old Men.

@@@ co-signing with 11:39pm, I am told that if an individual is really a millionaire and he/she lost all of their money. Then with a briefcase and a rolodex of contacts, they should able to do it again. I truly do not know the entire story but if the kind of dysfunction of yelling and screams were the norm of their business meetings then how could they really maintain a long lasting business enterprise to take care of his family? It is one thing to establish one but another to maintain it.

I don't think Dame is the only source that gets tired of telling this story either,
I read it here about 73 times alone...

Anonymous said...

so Dame, was sacrificing aaliyah worth it now?

Anonymous said...

He continues to tell is story for relevancy. He's got nothing else going on.

Anonymous said...

Both are ugly and arrogant and RUDE AS FUCK.

And both have the potential to be broke one day so while Dame is going through it now, I am sure Jay will go through it later.

Don't know the whole story, but sounds like the same story. Two friends, friendship ends one goes on to make something out of life one falls put blame on the other. Jay-Z seems like he has a better sense when it came to business. I, also remember Dash saying that he wears tees and socks one time and trash them. I thought to myself what an idiot!!!! Now he's probably thinking the same thing, with all the money he wasted. It's easier to blame others for your problems when you were together and they are making it and you are not. Jay-Z like many other blacks crossed over the color line and was accepted by the whites and moved on. Dash just stayed stuck behind with his keeping it real with the streets. Keeping it real with the streets don't buy food, pay bills, or keep money in the bank.

forget jay-z and they both just need to live there life and get over it

Anonymous said...

What Dame fill to realize it that Jay-z don't owe him shit. They made money together and Dame was foolish with his and Jay wasn't. You live, you learn Jay is not to carry you Dame, grow up, move on.

Clt said...

Wonder if he still wearing shirt and socks 1 time? LOL! That's my only question in this whole dead horse scenario.

Jay-Z and Dame Got An Equeal Share Upon Parting Company. Jay-z Is A Huge Star and Damon Sqaundered His Money. He Is A Certified Addict Both Drugs and Alchohol. How Is That Jay-z's Fault. Dame You are a loser.

I Must Say...Bitch You Stay On Top of This..Yes It Is Old, But I Am Intrigued By It. Dame Seemed To Be The Business Mastermind and Jay-Z Seemed To Be The Dumb Rapper. When The Smoke Cleared, It Was Clear Who Was The Business Master Mind and Who Was The Dumb Loser. Keep It Up Bitch

jay did him wrong. that is all

Amen, Amen @2:07pm

first of all, I too do not know the entire story but Jay-Z just seems to have a levelhead for life.

He does not have bunch of babies mamas needing child support checks and he married well and etc.
My daddy used to say "It is not how much money you make but how you manage it that actually counts".

Anonymous said...

Wasn't dame raised middle class? Didn't he go to a private school? This is all live and learn talk. Dame took all the fame to his head. It seems jay tried to do right and offer alot to dame just so he can get back the recordings to reasonable doubt ( one of his best albums) dame could have taken that deal and made something better out of roc-a-fella. His ego and pride are getting the best of him.

Anonymous said...

Just because Dame is bankrupt now doesn't mean he didn't get a fair deal. Maybe he even got more than he was worth! He SQUANDERED everything he had. People like that have a tendency to take everyone and everything with them down to the poor house. Jay-Z was smart in seeing Dame for what he was and jumped ship before he could take him with him.You don't see shit happening like this to Quincy Jones or Clive Davis or even Jermain Dupri. They don't have one successful artist they have dozens. Dame saw Jay-Zs potential and latched on for dear life like a true parasite would. So in the 15 plus years that JayZ has been out you couldn't find another hot aritist? Dame got lucky that is all. Karma is a bitch because he treated people like S*IT! Soon it is going to be Bey and Jays turn.

Anonymous said...

I don't see anything bad happening to jay because he is a good business man and a good team behind him. Even kanye knew what was the smart route and went with jay instead of the staying with dame (the person that put him on)

I can't lie - Jay sliced mofos up on the first verse to Lost One. Dash, you have to get past it bruh. Ish happened almost seven years ago.

Sleep with Beyonce - that's how you get Jay back.

Jay was fair & Damon is being an asshole. Yeah, Jay shitted on him. Because Damon got so comfortable that he forgot what his job was. Jay realized it wasn't his job to keep bringing cash in for a grown ass man who should be able to make his own money & provide for himself.

So like a big brother, he made the right decision & told Dame's bummy ass to make his own money. Dame's all upset about losing the Roc-A-Fella brand name, but when he was offered it back in exchange for something that Jay himself created, that probably has no marketability in this era of Rap music & is purely sentimental to Jay, what does he do? Acts like a child & say "No, they're mine."

Jay's a smart guy, he's calm & pretty shy actually. Dame was the big mouth arrogant son of a bitch. Arrogance is Jay's Rap Mogul persona, he's not really like that. He's more like a nerdy white guy really. Dame is just the bummy ass, ignorant, dummy he tried (and failed) to help better them self.

All Dame needs to do is sell his soul to the Devil like Jay-Z & Beyonce, and he'll be home free!
