She's mentally ill and unfortunately they tend to self medicate. Schizophrenia tends to surface in the early twenties. My high school BF started showing signs freshman year in college smoked marijuana, drank excessively to attempt to fight the demons/voices. Functions ok on his meds, but won't take them consistently. Behavior can be draining and even frightening on family and friends. Heart and prayers go out to Maia.
@6:55 PM ... I beleive she had some sort of nervous breakdwn- post the sitcom. i think her mom died and she just went down hill- she aleady had bipolar- but I supposed she stopped taking the meds after the show.. I heard that the other cast mates were also trying to reach out to her. ...so sad :(
Praying is the equivalent to doing nothing. Nobody here knows this chick personally so your prayers are really nothing more than just feeling sorry for her and that does shit all to help her. Even though Maia's choosing to destroy herself, I deeply feel sorry for her. My heart breaks for Maia and other non-famous Maias throughout the world. I will continue to pray for them.

In Maia's case, I'm sure that already having a mental illness since childhood may have had something to do with it.
But, I'm sure that losing her mother to cancer had a GREAT deal to do with her going to crack for comfort. Needless to say that losing a loved one, especially a parent, can be enough to destroy even the strongest person.
And yes, if you believe that your anonymous prayers are doing a thing to help this woman then you are feeble-minded and rather inept. Hands are really no good when they're always locked together praying to a big man in the sky. Hopefully everyone who truly feels something terrible for this woman is an active participant in their own communities helping others just like her. I find the prayer-wishers a bit fake but that is neither here nor there. I guess it can be chalked up to simple well-wishing of her situation. But in reality none of you are losing any sleep over her it is just another gossip item really. Very strange. But that's the internet for ya!
One can be empathetic to another's situation, misfortune, etc. without "knowing" them personally. I have problems, my friends & family have issues that concern me that I'm "not losing sleep over" either. Everthing has a conclusion--we may not like the results, but we deal and move on. Kind of dismissive and condescending to say anyone on a blog who prays for a celeb or tragic story is fake, but we are all entitled to an opinion. Some folks have larger sensitivity chips than others. *shrug*
Crack is no joke. I just lost my brother 2 weeks ago, and he used for at least 25 yrs! Before drugs he was a very intelligent, well paid, well groomed, and very popular guy. He never wanted rehab and refused numerous interventions from family and friends who loved him. And even near the end of his life he refused to get the help that he needed. He just kept telling everyone I'll go to the hospital next week. Well, there was no next week. He used and abused his body till it could take it no longer. I love my brother, but needless to say we all saw this coming. We felt a gamut of emotions after his death, but most of all I felt for his children. His 3 grown children never saw the good guy the family saw in the beginning. Drugs steal,kill, and destroy. Pray for Maia.
Honestly, if her family cares at all they should have her committed. She is a danger to herself and not mentally stable. I would rather see her in an environment where she is getting some help, even if it is forced, than on the street where demons can chew on her flesh. She is beyond the point of helping herself & is not rational. I don't know her, but I remember the shining light she used to be and I really don't want to read about something irreversibly terrible happening to her. for those who think maia went down after her mom dies is misinformed...her and her mother were estranged a few years before she passed..her mother tried everything she could to help maia..maia didnt want help..her addiction and alleged mental illness was uncontrollable.. i think maia and her mom started back speaking right before she passed..i can only imagine how her mom felt and i remember hearing that maias first drug of choice was expills..sad to say but if her own mother couldnt help her how can anyone help her? its sad seeing how ghetto and cracked out she is..she was so beautiful and had alot of potential...

Maia's mother, Bebe Moore Campbell's last book was entitled 72 Hour Hold--a "fictional" account of a mother dealing with her once beautiful, intelligent daughter's mental illness. 72 hours is the maximum amount of time a facility can keep an adult (18+) against their will. Unfortunate situation.
