I love Allen Payne but I always thought this show was corny.

Anonymous said...

I think after Allen Payne's wife (character) got clean and the son married Rudy (character) the show had no room for growth. Initially, I didn't like the show, it seemed like they were trying (acting) too hard but the show grew on me. Haven't watched in a while though. NOT looking 4ward to the new show. I believe those two characters over exaggerate.

Anonymous said...

That's one small step for man, and one giant leap for mankind!

I always thought the little girl was too grown.
The grandfather was just a buffoon.
Allen Payne too fine and talented to be on such a limited range show.

Anonymous said...

room for growth? lololol, you crazy as shit for that one. this show has been a train wreck from the start. i'm convinced black people find humor when they a) can identify with nonsense, or b) they see somebody worse off than them so it brings them joy. there was no reason this bs was on tv for 7 seasons.

i mean who got off a hard days work and rushed home to see this show; and meet the browns?

Anonymous said...

Bout damn time! That show was WACK no real laughs at all. The new show sounds a hell of a lot better. I hope he uses new writers though.

Anonymous said...

Oh and not a black person or human alive found that show funny. If they did they are on Tyler's pay roll.

About time!! Boring corny show!

I miss the days of The Cosby Show, Living Single, Martin, 227, Amen etc. Those were top-notch, funny black shows.

Michael Jai White and Tasha Smith are two of my all time favorite actors, regardless of filmography.

Tasha Smith is just FINE!!!

Why do I get the sinking feeling that I'm about to like them less?

on a side note: Obama should have told Trump to kiss his black a$$! He has better things to do than prove anything to that idiot. White folks just can't get over having a Black president.

I'm so happy this bafoon show has been cancelled.
Tyler Perry should know better.

@jazz

That's what happens when they took a good thing and make it "too much of a good thing". Angela and Marcus's on the movies are hilarious, but turning it into a TV show is too much.

It's like when you say a word over and over again, it loses meaning. Eventually what we loved about Angela and Marcus will fade when we see their crazy antics EVERYDAY on TV.

NO MORE COONERY!

I think I've only watched one episode and that was enough for me. So whatever who cares......

Anonymous said...

^^^coonery...thats not a word. I liked the
Paynes but it lost its fire....Tyler was on
the tube last night talkin about Spike and how
some educated blacks are now attacking other
blacks for "coonery" stating its holding back a
race. He said that basically without the maids
shoeshin boys, butlers and janitors we as a
people wouldnt have any "stuck up"blacks cause
those folks are the children of simple folks.
Then he said, would Spike and the rest of yall
call your own parents coons or sellouts. His
point was simple, you dont get any bigger
making others feel small.....

Anonymous said...

Spike, tyler told me to tell you to go to hell and to kiss Madea's ass, after a sunday dinner dump. I'm just telling you what he said so....

Never saw the show. That "It takes Two" commercial David Mann and LaVan Davis did together was funny though. Caught it during an NBA game a while ago.

Anonymous said...

I love Tyler Perry but there seems to be a never ending trend of him creating shows and movies from his stage plays...we've seen it already come up with some new material please! -AND- If he want the new show to flourish, he should get a deal with BET...byronnnnnnnnn nnnnnnnnn

Anonymous said...

@7:34 took the words right out of my mouth... thank you.

Anonymous said...

Never watched House of Payne cuz it looked wack. But I do watch Meet The Browns cuz of that fine ass Lamman Rucker. LMAO. However, this new show with Marcus and Angela sounds entertaining. Wonder will he get some of the rest of the cast on there as well.. especially fine ass Lamman. LOL

Good 4 Michale & Tasha it's going to be great if the writing is excellent

Anonymous said...

He should bury the Paynes, the Browns and Madea In one massive grave.

I thought artist were supposed to grow, evolve.

Hey Tyler, when are you going to grow?

Year after year of the same shit. I'm just saying boutdamntime!!!

Anonymous said...

my husband will happy to hear this **texts hubby the good news** he hates this show!

Anonymous said...

@9:31 He has no incentive to grow if folks keep watching his shows and paying to see yet another Madea movie. As long as he continues to make money, he'll keep churning out the same old crap.

can you read? the latest madea movie FLOPPED. its been weeks and its barely broken even and hasnt made a profit.

Anonymous said...

YAY! But SADLY this show will live on in infamy thanks to syndication.

@ 10:01 where you gettn your facts from bruh? 23 mill last timne I checked and TP already queened out and stated he NEVER spends more than 1 mil to make a film so um you do the math...

Anonymous said...

@ 10:29

dumbass its IMPOSSIBLE to make a mainstream film for 1 mil. sending it to theaters alone cost more than that. Im not your "bruh" im not from your ghetto hood idiot. get your ged.

"Madea's Big Happy Family" cost Lionsgate about $25 million to produce"

I have a question, everyday I read these post and I smh wondering is there anyone in the celeb black community that any of you do like? Is there one celeb one black celeb that does not get bashed and talked about? I'm just wondering its an honest question I want to know who you guys all agree is doing their thing in Hollywood or Musically that you all mutually agree on? Because every time I come on here I am like "WOW" we really do not like each other at all. One day I just sat and read stuff from RWS to WSHH to FB to Twitter and I was truly amazed at how divided we are. Now do not get me wrong this is totally off subject and it is a little scary, I just do not think that we have 10 solid black entertainers that no one says one thing about. We bash em' all big and small lmmfao.... and no one seems ever good enough to a lot of peoples standards. Is this why are community can't build anything together? Again off subject, I just sit here and read and I'm like damn if we hate or little bit of actors and musicians this much imagine how we shit on each other in the street. I know its a blog you have an opinion but, read some of these go to RWS page and go through each story man o man the whole black celeb community aint shit if you were to ask anyone on here. If they not illuminati they coons, buffoons, lightening their skin, afraid to be black, don't care about the black community, ho's, has herpes, spreading disease, they never give back, they never give enough, they kids are dumb, they don't care about their kids, they gay, they frauds, they are slow, they have no talent, and the list goes on and on! I'm shiiiit (in my KAT WILLIAMS voice) we can't stand one another in the street on t.v. on the radio we just do not fuck wit each other. WE LACK TRUST OR SUPPORT OF ONE ANOTHER! I GUESS THE WHITE MANS HAND IS FULL OF ACES BECAUSE DAMN. Off topic I know, and no offense to anyone just look through see how we down play one another its crazy and funny thing is these people that we down play keep doing them its to funny. by the way I never cared for the show either my home girl and my boyfriend watch it, I just never thought it was funny. I did however like why did i get married and sometimes madea makes me laugh. I have only seen a few movies. I do not like nor dislike tyler perry he is a man a black man doing what brings some people joy despite what others may think, he is a man that went from homelessness to selling out theaters and plays. I have a respect for someone that is able to pick themselves up from nothing, where as most would rob steal and kill.

OMG! Remember on Amen, when Sherman Hemsley ate the bad food that gave everyone food poisoning and he went to court to prove the food wasn't bad but it was, and then they put Rolly's long-winded a-s-s on the stand? Whew that show was too funny.

Anonymous said...

This show was a sad state of affairs, it made funny people mad corny, just to please a white audience, now look, White people still have their edgy comedies, while blacks gotta go corny and get canceled, and the ones that don't go corny (Girlfriends, Half and Half) Get canceled
It's a lose lose situation for black tv shows.
They can't be edgy like Martin and when they play the white role they get canceled.

From what I understand, none of Tyler Perry's movie have been released abroad. that would certainly bring in a ton of cash.

I suppose Tyler will take the Oprah route and get his own channel. Although I believe Oprah only owns 50 percent of own.

Quiana said...

Oh well good. When can we get our old school shows back on the air.

Stinky Toast said...

NOT SURPRISED...Why don't they cancel Meet the Browns while they are at it. And why does TP feel the need to create sitcom spin-offs from his movies? This bullshit is becoming too watered-down.

Either stay just making movies, or create sitcoms with different plots.

You know what better yet, find better actors lol. I can't relate to these characters on his shows.

I am so glad this show is getting canceled...now if they can only do something about Meet the Browns! That man that plays Mr. Brown is GARBAGE and soooooo irritating! Ugghhhh

@ 9:43, the movie did not flop it just opened this weekend to the tune of 25.7 million dollars it came in at #2, behind the kid movie RIO. And I am sure it will grow because people will still go see it. S/N The Browns were the worse I don't know how it stayed on for 7 years

Anonymous said...

On one hand black folks are like starving kids being fed a cracker and living because they don't get any other kind of food. But on the other hand black folks don't see to like shows that are full of coonery. Those shows are "too white" for them. It's a double edged sword.

Shyt! Marcus and Angela crazy asses made the damn movie anyway! lol, u never knew what they was gonna do or what was gonna happen next.Aaaand they dated in real life. i love those 2 Ima watch #thumbsup!

perfect move, hope it works out.

I think Tyler will eventually find his way. Criticize all you want, but he employs 300 people and most are of color. Is Ike Lee doing anything on that level?

I just hope Tasha Smith realizes that she is typecasting herself and that it doesn't hurt her in the long run. She's worse than Nene on these shows.

Anonymous said...

Tyler is a work in progress. He is self taught and is making his way. If he is smart he will continue to make movies that audiences will want to see then he will get to the point that he can make the movies he WANTS to make. Hopefully they will have more range and subject matter than his previous offerings.

black people complain about not having any shows on tv and then when you do you talk down on them dont watch them an pray for their downfalls in example house of pain and even the game!!after people begged to get that show back on the air u people didnt watch after the first fw shows..crabs!!!

Anonymous said...

Just because a drug dealer is black does that mean you buy drugs from them. Nope. People think HATE and DISLIKE are the same thing. If you don't like something, that's fine, but HATING is when you have a vendetta. People just simply Dislike Tyler and his one note plays.

This particular show was the one Tyler Perry venture that I did not enjoy. Hopefully the next show will be better.

Anonymous said...

Wow, I am really shocked by most of these comments. I did rush home to watch House of Payne. It was everything I wish all of us had, warm, loving families, strong black men with beautiful, spiritually grounded black wives. 3 generations of black families dealing with life in a positive, non petty, funny way. I am truly saddened by the responses on here.

Anonymous said...

I know u want to believe TP is his own man but he is very much controlled. If he didn't portray these characters as feminine men/clownish/abused females, there is no way he would have gotten that much tv time.........if any

Anonymous said...

You people on this site sicken me! I am so tired of blacks putting other successful blacks down. Either put up or shut up. This house slave, field slave mentality is just pitiful. TP is a genius and a very religious person. And all of you are dogging him but you still pay to see his films. SMH

I am saddened to hear that House of Payne is cancelled. It was a good sitcom as was Meet the Browns

I have a feeling Tyler really doesn't give a good one what anyone thinks of him. Proof....500 million in earnings last year! Where is yours? I thought so!

Anonymous said...

Are you guys serious House of Payne is the best show ever! Sorry to hear its been cancelled.

Anonymous said...

This is why black people cant make it in this world, yea some of shows wasnt good but not all. Some people didnt give the shows a chance because most was brain washed by other people talking. And for spike lee i saw his movies and most of his stuff was stupid how can he talk, it look like he was just hating. And black Amercans let white Americans tell them they are African American black but they are not European Americans white. (Brain washed)A black person cant make it look at Jada P smith show cancel

qassy said...

I know I might be late but this show was a really good show that to me showed the black middle class family educated with careers facing drugs and unemployment forclosures and all the things that goes on in society people rise up one of the best shows to encourage our black youth great sitcom just like "my wife and kid" to classy most of us black folks to watch

Anonymous said...

IT SEEMS TO ME LIKE ITS ALOT OF HATERS IN HERE...TP IS A DAMN GOOD WRITER AND PRODUCER SHOW THIS MAN RESPECT CAUSE HE CAME FROM BEING HOMELESS TO A MULTI MILLIONAIRE... SOOOOO WITH THAT BEING SAID YALL PROBABLY DONT EVEN HAVE A JOB...... LOSERS

Anonymous said...

This show was corny????? Obviously the people who watched it did not actually WATCH the show!! Now I will give you the first year in which the actors were feeling each other out, but Curtis was a damn FUNNY ASS HELL. You people that hate so strong off of information that is incomplete, makes me sick. You know what...most of you are probably white Obama basher hell bent on making black people seem worse and worse while hiding behind your computers (such pussies). If you are, there is no rationalizing with these people, as they are not worth responding to. But for the rest of you. You can't be serious in your critique. I believe Curtis himself on House of Payne was the closest you can get to a modern day Martin. Plus the entire show dealt with real life issues, with an African American touch. This is another example of white executives shutting down a positive show for no good reason. Its not because of lack of rating. To make room for another TP show?
please...dont buy that BS!! They could have done both simultaneously. Now something I will not watch is Meet the Browns. That is the epitome of coonery and buffoonery.

i Love The SHow ANd Im Black Yall Just Haters Clearly

it is sad that the man is using the gift that God gave him to make movies. he is not robbing and stealing he is making his own way by the grace of God. here is a good quote and food for thought for all you hater out there that can't give an opinion without getting personal . let every man be swayed by an opinion but let it be of a good one. just remember that one day every evil word that comes out of a person mouth he/ she will be held accountable. you might not like the guy but at least give him the credit for not having to sell his soul to movie people to do use the talent that God blessed him with.

I am saddened by the news- I love House of Payne, as well as meet the Browns, which was cancelled earlier this year. These shows brought smiles and laughs to my face. Most of today's sitcoms are just a plain bore, no hilarity, nothing- and they are still on while these were cancelled. Being confined to my house because of disabilities, I found TP's shows enlightening and funny, no matter how much they acted like "buffoons"-- the characters - on either show at any given time- TP is a great man who is doing his best at entertaining us. I watch meet the Browns and House of Payne and come out of it with a simple message, like how not to treat ppl, or how ppl with HIV is not the same as ones with full blown AIDS;how one can go through every day life and still have all the support and love of a family to fall back on; you can get in trouble and burn down your house but still, everyone stands by you - or a couple adopts 2 children and raise as their own, no matter what the kids get into, they still love them- just to name a few. THIS is what a family should be, and THAT us why I LOVED the shows.A family is corny, buffoony, colorful as Browns clothes- a mixture of everything. Like these shows, So yes, I am saddened by the cancellations.

Anonymous said...

Just when I was hoping to see a "spin off" with either Floyd or Peanut HOP is cancelled. Looks like they just don't want us tobe entertained or see so many of us employed!!

Some of these comments are so harsh! Tyler has employed a lot of black people that Hollywood wouldn't!! That's a fact and I thank God for blessing Tyler to bless others. Stop your hating and put your God-given talents to work!
