Heavy D Saw a Doctor the Day Before He Died

Heavy D was feeling under the weather and visited a doctor the day before his untimely death and while pneumonia is suspected to be the cause of his demise, the completed autopsy report could take up to six weeks...

From NY Daily News
Rap legend Heavy D knew something was seriously wrong with his health the day before he suddenly collapsed and died Tuesday, officials told the Daily News.

“He had gone to the doctor the day before,” Ed Winter, Assistant Chief of the Los Angeles County Coroner’s office, told the Daily News. “He had what appeared to be like flu-like symptoms.”

Investigators completed an autopsy Wednesday morning, but declined to release a preliminary cause of death, saying that toxicology tests must first be performed. The tests could take up to six weeks to complete.

“He was taking medication, so we want to see what the levels were,” Winter said.

The trailblazing, Westchester County-bred star weighed 344 pounds at the time of his death, Winter said.

“He said he had a touch of pneumonia, maybe from traveling. He just got back from England,” cousin Ruddy Phillips, 50, told The News after speaking with the entertainer’s dad in Mount Vernon, N.Y.

Heavy D, whose real name was Dwight Arrington Myers, was taken by ambulance to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles about 11:30 a.m. Tuesday; he died 90 minutes later, police said.

He was conscious and talking, but having difficulty breathing, when officers first arrived at his home after a 911 call was made, said Lt. Mark Rosen of the Beverly Hills Police Department.

crazy, but now up in washington an uninsured person can't go to the emergency room more than 3 times a year and they have a list of 700 symptoms that are considered non-emergency & you will be turned away. some of the symptoms are: difficulty breathing, chest pains, 1st & 2nd degree burns, irregular heartbeat & abdominal pain. sad, people need more health care not less if they want to live long.

Hhmmmm didn't Amy Winehouse see a doctor the day before she died too???

I don't mean to sound like a conspiracy theorist but something isn't right about his death. Maybe it's the shock of his death that makes me feel this way.

R.I.P Heavy D.

Diet will make you or break you. I can't imagine how much bad food he ate everyday, the time he spent eating it and the amount of money he spent on it but it had to be stupendous.

With that being said I hope Heavy enjoyed every bite and every minute of his life. RIP to a good guy who was funny and could dance good.

My heart goes out to his loved ones.

When he was on the Tracy Morgan sitcom, he had actually lost weight and stayed that size for a long time.

Sometimes traveling extensively does not work well if your immune system is already compromised (jetlag).

It sounds to me that he may have died of a heart attack after being in heart failure. He's been traveling a lot lately which included an international flight. Long distance plane rides can be very strenuous on the heart co-sign with 6:34 there. Heart failure is often confused with flu like symptoms. Aches and pains, lethargic, shortness of breath, and even a runny nose can be signs of heart failure. You can be in heart failure for weeks or even months and the heart gets weaker and weaker until it finally gives out.

When YOUR BODY doesn't get the NECESSARY Rest (Meaning SLEEP !!!) Nutrients (Meaning FOOD & LIQUIDS !!!) and Exercise (Meaning DAILY Walking Etc Etc) Your BODY Can/Will Shut-Down on YOU and if You're not near an Emergency Facility in the Due Time... YOU Can/Will DIE regardless of YOUR WEIGHT !!!

I KNOW People who have Dropped DEAD who were physically fit with 5% (OR LESS...) Body-Fat (WORD)

Sounds like he caught some shit and it layed dormat for a minute until it killed his ass. I certainly would like to know what it was. Those of us who are in our 40s may still feel like we're in our 20s but we have to realize that our bodies are changing and that means getting the proper rest. Liks ELove said, you must get proper rest. Long gone are those all nighters, and living on tons of coffee. Go to bed on time and eat proper means. And for goodness sakes, make sure you have bowel movements and get all that waste out ya system.

Awww poor Heavy D. He was sucha big teddy bear. :(

He sounds like he threw a clot...pulmonary embolism. Those things will take you out so fast and if he was that big and just flown from Europe it's highly likely.

I pray he was not scared or alone when he passed. That would be the absolute worst.

@10:12 Sandra Rose is a very bitter person. I used to enjoy her blog, but as of late, her posts have become really ugly :-(

Pneumonia is an Aids-related cause of death.
