72 of the 75 original girls have graduated and 100% of them are headed to universities in South Africa and the United States.
“We’re taking a victory lap here, for transformation,” Winfrey told the AP. “Every single girl is going to leave here with something greater to offer the world than her body.”

Think of it this way. How many of our black schools are failing because parents dont get involved? Once your child leaves the school doors, it is your responsibility to continue their education. How many parents in the hood dont even know if their kids have homework or let the kids stay in front of the computer or video game or in the street all day and night long? I went to public schools in the hood and my mom stayed involved and if a teacher didnt want to teach as they should, mom was at the school. If we want more we will get more. These african girls wouldnt have a chance without O's help, so she has no obligation to start a school for blacks in america when we have a better chance and more opportunities than those girls. O became who she was here. What would be the chances of the same thing happening in africa without someone's help?

There are so many programs and schools for our african american youth. Most of them are taken for granted. We have one of the highest drop out rates, youngest unwed mothers, and drug dealers. And our young boys are being sent to prison everyday. And I refuse to believe its all because of a failing education system.
If we continue to show no desire for education, how can anyone take us serious. True more should be done for our children but sometimes its like what's the point, when majority is going to drop out anyway.
I attended an all black school where I admit books/materials were limited but Some of our teachers would try their best with what they had but kids would interrupt the teacher, disrupt the class.And show no respect for the teacher nor their peers. Needless to say half of that class graduated. Those that valued education graduated and later got degrees.
My point is that most American children are spoiled and don't know what they have until its too late. It seems African children and other developing countries appreciate/value hard work and education more than we do. Which is sad. I hate turning on the tube or radio to hear about how some poor african or indian child is suffering without any food or money; and as a result cannot live a normal childhood that our children take for granted. So, if I had money like Oprah I would do the same thing for our distant relatives. Give them hope and courage. Now thanks to Oprah these girls can be anything that they set their minds to and an inspiration to other young boys and girls that anything is possible.

You know the sad part about this is that Oprah was born in raised in one of the most illiterate states in the country, with no educational opportunities in most areas( i lived in that state 5 months and bounced its so Jim Crow) but yet she goes and builds a school in another country to help girls there and build their country up while her own people are still oppressed. Alot of celebs go to other countries to get worshipped. See, since they will not be worshipped here they dont want to help. So what its easy to go and help other countries but it takes real love to help your own people!!!!!! Black people really need to help Black Americans. Hell the Africans I know hate Black Americans. She could have helped Mississipians but she discovered the hard way that when you help poor Africans they can be ungrateful as well. She wanted worship and she did not get it.
