Folks in the music game need to hang it up, for real. Nobody's trying to hear that bullshit they be putting out. The Old School crowd has caught word of these so-called New School people slipping; that's why legendary artists like Aretha Franklin, Bobby Womack, Sade are coming back real strong on they asses. Because they know we want REAL music, we want GOOD music, and that's what they are good at: MAKING REAL MUSIC.

Honestly, I don't support her simply because she's on Jay-z's team. Before I knew that I was all up on youtube thumbs upping her and saying "damn that girl can sing live" and "anticipating" her arrival, but then I learned she was a Jay-z girl and was doing a rocawear campaign with Trey Songs and I was like "I'll pass on this artist" and I passed and forgot about her real quick, didn't even last long enough to see her first music video. I really dislike Jay-z and this is from years ago when Foxy Brown was still hot. His unattractive body and face and nerve to be arrogant just troubles me and the way he talks to people like he's so profound and a karate master is just gross.
Anything associated with Jay-z gets an automatic thumbs down from me. I even disliked Neyo and John Legend for a LONG time because of their association. And I have never ever listened to Alicia Keys empire state, I clicked the station every time just because he was on it.

Will wait until I hear it before buying anything, I have liked her songs in the past. But agree that old school had some of the strongest singers and many are gone so this new crew needs to step it up if they are going to even get close to the sales of the older group.

We live in a different world now than in the 90's and early 00's. We live in the computer age and you don't need to purchase an album to have access to music. We currently live in an error where it is really about pushing singles than an entire album. Beyonce figured that out that is why she is a single queen and not necessarily a big album seller. She and her grouped have amassed a large sum of money from singles not albums. Her last effort was to push an album and best believe her next project will be back to focusing on hit singles vs. a well constructed album. Rhianna is another who angle is hit singles vs. the great album concept. The only artist I am familiar with is Ruben and little about Melanie the other two I have no clue. I have not listen to the radio in years I download my music or listen to Pandora, & Yahoo Music. The record companies have not totally created a great business and marketing plan around the digital age.

All genres of music suck now. I haven't been excited about a new artist in years. I like Adele but the last one whose music was really good was Amy Winehouse.
I have always listened to all types of music and have always found good in all of it. The flash in my car has everything from classical to rock to old school hip-hop and everything in between, but I cannot find much new music that I like now. I agree with the poster who said that music has just gone downhill since 2000.

I've heard 3 of songs from her new album Youtube and they are hot. If I end up liking 90% of the album I'll go ahead and buy it on itunes which is my rule on buying albums these days. Most of y'all are tripping about this girl. Melanie is one the last singers in the new crowd singing REAL R&B and not that watered down euro pop everyone else has been pressured into doing. She doesn't necessarily stand out from the rest but she is talented and makes pretty good music. My critique for her is that she finds a better management team. You would think with her being signed to Roc Nation management that she would have better promotion, but she hasn't. I agree with the comments that Jay-Z sucks. He cannot be in charge of anything successfully but himself and Rihanna. He ruined Roc a Fella, Def Jam, and he's not doing much with Roc Nation. Most of his artists are flopping except J. Cole and Wale. The only they are doing ok because they did a lot of mixtapes before they signed with Roc Nation to build their fan base. Jay-Z is basically another Diddy when it comes to managing careers.
