According to his official autopsy report Don Cornelius had been experiencing seizures and was in extreme pain before committing suicide earlier this year...
From TMZ
Don Cornelius was in an extreme amount of pain in the days before his death and minutes before he shot himself, Don phoned his son and told him, "I don't know how long I can take this" ... this according to the autopsy report obtained by TMZ.
According to the report, the "Soul Train" legend had been experiencing seizures as a result of an aneurysm he suffered 15 years ago.
But Don's health took a dramatic turn for the worse in the last 6 months of his life ... and he became "very depressed about his failing health."
Don called his son at 3:00 AM on February 1 ... and warned his son, "I don't know how long I can take this." Don's son told him he'd rush right over ... and Don said he'd leave the back door open.
When Don's son arrived to Cornelius' Los Angeles home, he detected an odor of smoke and saw Don seated in a chair with a pistol in his right hand.

Sad. Eternal peace to you Don.
That why it wasn’t right to throw people in jail like Dr. Kevorkian He provided a service to people who didn’t wish to live anymore. If you’re in extreme pain shouldn’t it be your right to die? I think so….
Don is on that Infinite Soul Train Line in the Sky!! RIP
This is so sad. Glad he's at rest now. You never know what people are going through.
RIP Sir.................!
How terrible, I wish they would've found him another doctor or a pain management specialist. At least we know he wasn't a prescription drug addict. RIP Don.

I have to agree with you to the 9th power, while working in nursing I did a stint in oncology while deciding where I wanted to specialize in. dying of any type of debilitating illness is extremely painful and the quality of life sucks. Dr. Kevorkian in my book provides and excellent service to those dying and wanted to not be held prisoners of their bodies and suffer in extreme amounts of pain till the very end. it should be one's right to life as well as death if the circumstances become so painful the individual wishes to no longer continue on in pain. people should have the right to end an existence they deem unfit to live with.
What 10:55 am said. There are dozens of different types of orthodox, unorthodox and alternative therapies for chronic pain. It is a terrible tragedy to know that Don Cornelius didn't have to die the way he did.
@1:126 Until you went thru it YOU JUST DONT KNOW. Now a days a doctor is more worried about his own damn self such as being audit or charged with providing a patient with TOO MANY PAIN PILLS, than the quality of the patients level of pain.
I recently had knee surgery and THE DOCTOR WAS TELLING ME NOT TO TAKE PAIN PILS. wTF?? i have metal plate, pins and screws. Thank God I found a good family practice doctor who knew my pain and gave me the GREAT PAIN PILLS. Imo!!
I can't understand. He was so loved. Why didn't he seek help. So sad he left this way. Suicide is not right.
What type of pain was he in? And what about his health was failing? Was his mobility or cognition declining? He wasn't under the care of a neurologist? This release seems a little vague. It's sad he suffered and didn't get the help that was available.
@3:11 I concur, one should NEVA kill themselves.
WE WILL ALL WAY'S LOVE YOU AND YOU WILL NEVER BE FORGOTTEN MR.DON
Damn only 10 comments on Don. WOW!
I can only imagine that he had to be in such horrible pain to kill himself when he knew his son was on his way over. He could not have been in his right state of mind because what parent wants their child to find them dead like that. This is so sad. I wish he could have had better pain management care.
