I HATE Power of Attorney. I understand the person and reason for it but I've seen way too many fraud situations happen. It's not something you should give just anybody. The only person in my life who I would ever assign it to would be my mother. Basically what you're doing if it's a General POA is giving that person the right to make any of your financial decisions. Meaning if that person wants to sell your house, withdrawal all of the money out of your accounts or steal your paycheck and cash it they can. I see the fraud more often with older parents who give their kids POA over their affairs and the kids take all of their money. You could grant a Limited POA but most people don't get that.
I'm not fearful of her safety though because a POA is null after someone dies so he doesn't give him rights over her money or affairs if she dies.
