I used to think that he was set up too UNTIL I saw a documentary on Tyson. It had all of his early trainers and people that helped him with the early stages of his boxing career speaking on Tyson. Mike Tyson lived with one of the trainers when he was a teenager until he got too grabby and inappropriate with the mans 12 year old daughter and scared the hell out of her. She told her mom and the mom told the dad. Dad being dad got a gun and put it to Tysons head and said "if you ever come near my family again I'll kill you". I had to pick my jaw off the floor when I saw that. I absolutely believe it because you can't fake the rage that the father had in his eyes retelling what happened. Tyson must of been 17 teen at the time.

@3:27AM - Absolutely. That was Teddy Atlas that threatened to kill Mike. I think Mike was 15 at the time and the little girl was 11. Teddy still does ESPN's Friday Night Fights and is still one of the most respected analysts in the fight game. He also said that while Cus D'Amato taught Tyson the fight game he more/less neglected to teach him about boundaries and self-discipline. So when the old man passed away, it was just a matter of time and the only other man that really loved him, Jim Jacobs, passing away before the demons really opened Mike up. It's a sad ending to a great story that could have ended so much better had Mike kept people like Teddy Atlas close to him. That being said, Mike has more lives than a cat liter. The fact that he's still loved and respected and can make money off of appearances and books is amazing when you consider all the fuckery that he's taken part in through the years. It's hard to fathom the amount of shit that he's gotten away with over time - Damn near his whole life has been about hurting people in one way or another..

I've been lurking for a while.....I truly hate that all black men get a bad rap. Unfortunately it's directlly tied to our time here, post middle-passage. One speaking for all has been just one mountain we're perpetually climbing...I can say that I've been dogged by black men, but only individual black men. And yes, my black fathers have pissed me off. It's PURE BUSLLSHIT!!! In order to justify "the all," one needs to have come into contact with "all." In the meetings with bio-fam, I had to come to terms with not being wholly "African" and begin to integrate the Irish and Indigenous into my life, lucidly contending with the possibility of rejection from these cultures because of the idea the "all" black-skinned people are not worthy of public integration, though I didn't choose to be...So Brothas please realize, that those of us with "real-eyes" can see and hear you loud and clear.
