So Nobody Missed SWV?

SWV released their first album in 15 years entitled 'I Missed Us', but apparently nobody missed them...

'I Missed Us' sold a measly 14k copies first week, landing SWV at number 24 on the Billboard chart.

And in case you were wondering Monica's New Life slipped down from number 5 to number 15 in its second week, suffering a 70% drop in sales.

Yeah that ship has sailed... Kinda sad. I remember when they first came out. Their sound was great. Brian Morgan was a great songwriter/producer and he could SANG!

It's the agenda hard at work. I blame the Illuminati for dis shyt!

The album is is actually good. Much better than a lot of other albums out right now...

Guess niggas spent their free money on Think Like a Man instead.

They should've promo'd this a little harder cause I didn't even know this shit was out.

I actually brought the CD and it is really good! Number 3, 12,6,7 and 13 are my jams. I went to the local Best Buy and brought the last copy. I asked the sales guy how many were shipped and he claimed he didn't know. I think it is a situation of not enough CD shipped verse nobody really missing them. #IJUSTSAYING

Anonymous said...

^^ agree with that.

Anonymous said...

I have to hear it on the radio first as I don't want to spend my money on a CD where I would only like 1 or 2 songs.

Folk get so wrapped up in this stuff they call music now, some R&B artist of the past don't have a chance.

Anonymous said...

I saw them perform live years ago along with several other groups on the roster! They were booed! They sucked live! I however will listen to this CD and hopefully they will make a comeback! Since that was long ago!

I bought the CD the other day and like some previous posts stated, it is really good. The low sales could be because people didn't know that they had released a new CD. I didn't even know until someone mentioned it to me.

Anonymous said...

Ok so 14,000 copies sold. Don't expect the album to do good. If u buy it and enjoy it good. But they aren't going to have as large of an audience as they used to... They will have to join other R&B acts that spark nostalgia for a faithful few, but don't appeal to the masses. Point blank

Anonymous said...

Who are these manly heffas?

Anonymous said...

@2:36 No it wasn't the only copy I brought the LAST one the day it came out. I was supposed to get on for my co-worker and had the sales guy look it up to see if they had anymore at the other stores. He said they only had TWO left at the other store. That is why I'm saying they didn't ship out enough because this happen to me on Tuesday (the day the CD came out).

Anonymous said...

Of course their album didn't sell. They're actually talented; not a gimmick like the Black music artists of today.

Anonymous said...

How come all of them look like line backers. Did anybody exercise before the picture was taken? I know they knew that it was being done...cause they had been in the studio making this album. I'm Just Saying!!!

The one in the middle is saved.

The one on the right is the one who told S2S a while back that she did lesbian parties or some shit to make ends meet.

@2:43 yeah that's another thing. They gained ALOT of weight over the years an they are either too lazy, undisciplined, or simply don't care enough to get back in decent shape. I don't expect them to be rail thin, but at least lose SOME weight... They were never the best to look at anyways so this day and age they don't stand a chance! Shame but true... I always liked their songs over the years but no don't expect an epic comeback... But yeah they could use some Zumba.

The only promotion was on the Wendy Williams Show and radio. Today you need a reality show (network or internet), magazines and hit morning shows with live performances.

Lmao! These comments...wow

The cd wasn't that great. I had already set my mind, weeks ago, that I would support their album. However, there are only like, 2-3 songs, tops, that are good. The best song on the album is "Love Unconditionally". The problem is, they tried too hard to pander to the young crowd, instead of making grown music. People remember SWV from hits like "Anytime", "Downtown", "Weak", etc., they should have stuck to that format, and only made adult contemporary music. It's a shame, cause I had high hopes for them. *sigh*
Also.....this new album has all 3 of them singing lead....bad...BAD...idea lmao...there's a reason why Coko should have REMAINED the lead vocalist. Some of the vocals were pitchy and all out of tone...oh my lord...it was hard to get thru some of the screeching

Anonymous said...

They had an album out? Oh I see.

Anonymous said...

@2:25 I was in that same Best Buy that only had that one copy left, but I took my hard earned money and bought the best of the Chipmunks instead!

Anonymous said...

@2:54 I agree that they should have limited everyones lead vocal besides Coko but they went in on #3 (show off) and #5 (do you) where Coko sang the whole song.

I have every intention of buying it--- i think that they pushed it out toO soon they just started airing the co-sign video so they shld have let that circulate and maybe put another single out like a ballad before releasing ...Monica shld have done the same her's came out too soon sn: i didn't know it was out either

You can buy it on iTunes for $9.99, or $1.29 for the singles:

Album Review
I Missed Us doesn't sound like the work of a group that went 15 years without releasing a studio album. For their first proper studio set since 1997's Release Some Tension, SWV signed with eOne and worked extensively with Cainon Lamb (aka Lamb)...Lamb wrote and produced the album's first nine songs; he seems to have approached the women as if they don't have a history and have no expectations beyond delivering a high-quality 2012 R&B album. What throwback twists exist — like the Bob James sample in "All About You" and the use of Rufus & Chaka Khan's disco-funk classic "Do You Love What You Feel" in "Do Ya" — have nothing to do with attempting to relive SWV's past. In fact, the only aspect that resembles the past is the women's voices. There are some impeccable arrangements, best heard on the confrontational and seductive "Better Than I" (also a trunk rattler) and the theatrical ballad "Keep You Home." The four songs with other collaborators almost seem like bonus tracks, given the strength of the 34-minute Lamb portion, but they don't sound all that out of place. A stormy cover of Patti LaBelle's hit 1983 ballad "If Only You Knew" puts an exclamation point on one of the best comeback albums of the last decade.

As far as people supporting Think Like a Man and not this CD, the movie was HEAVILY promoted. This CD was not.
The end.

@2:24PM
Yes, it's HOT. I got it via iTunes & I must say it has 90s vibe with great harmony among them all with bad vocal talent.
The album will get air play, their marketing team sucked by being so secretive with fear of peeps stealing and downloading for free. The album is on FIRE.

Anonymous said...

I fukk with SWV actually, I did miss them...but somebody in the promotions department missed "THAT" MEMO about their CD dropping...however, truthfully I probably would have only been number 14,001 tho...sad, but true.

#WhereDaFukkIzBobbyValentino!!?
#AndPleasure!!??
#AndGenuwine!!??

Anonymous said...

That's because their old school talent like Monica and these 90s babies ain't into that kind of music nowadays.

Anonymous said...

@2:57pm you don't know what you're talking about, the CD was not catering specifically to a "Younger" demographic at all. The album is great actually! They stayed true to their roots but without it sounding stale and outdated; it was like a "love letter" to the 90's. They are clearly reaching out to their core fans that supported them in the 90's and the kids who's grownups exposed them to their music when they were young. If they were really trying to reach kids from these days it would have been on some crazy electro-dance-house ish, but it wasn't...not even a little bit.
Yes I have to admit that the CD was not promoted amazingly especially considering that the "Co-Sign" single was released on iTunes last December. I bought mine on iTunes first day out, so the excuse and dissing them for not having enough copies in Best Buy is bullsh1t considering hardly anyone buys physical copies of CD anymore. But even with that being said, I do like Physical copies too so when I went on Target.com to buy the Target exclusive bonus tracek version in addition to the iTunes copy i bought, it was actually sold out, so they must be doing something right. The reality is that they are now indie artists and Promotion is expensive and sometimes tough to get these days, But hey, it's not like they gonna stop selling the damn CD so whether they go platinum in a week or over a few months, word of mouth can do wonders just like it has for Adele(not that I'm comparing them to her project for project). They deserve the right as anyone else to release music and continue to work. Black People need to just stop downloading illegally and start paying for sh1t.
....and by the way I ALSO went to see "think like a Man" first weekend out.

I didn't know the album dropped. I have to admit these ladies need to step their game ALL the way up. How you looking old and bloated while staging a comeback? You have b*tches performing in onsies and bathing suits these days. B*tches are not playing and the game is not the same.

Co-sign w/ Bee Gee
They definitely need to build up a following with the younger generation.

Anonymous said...

Their weight has NOTHING to do with their talents. You motherfuckers are shallow as HELL.
Anybody hating on SWV on this post is in deep denial, knowing damn well, we ALL were cuttin' a rug to "Anything", "I'm So Into You", "You're The One", "Right Here", etc.
FUCK the younger generation. They have NO taste in music, which is why we have retards like Rihanna, Katy Perry and Nicki Minaj being regarded as "legends". I'm not surprised this album tanked: the talented ones are always underrated.

Anonymous said...

I hear you @4:14 but you have to play by the rules in this game. The rules dictate that female singers be sexy. It's very much about image these days, so they need to step their game up if they want visibility and successful careers. Yes it's extremely shallow but that's the way it is.

Anonymous said...

The album is excellent. Therefore, it's getting slept on.

"Do Ya" is a summertime jam track---I wouldn't count them out on this one AT ALL.

Anonymous said...

I use to like SWV back in the day. I was never one who purchase their work but it was good productions and my mother met them while one of the girls mother was sick back in 90's and they are good people. They are on an independent label so dynamic sales would be the exception to the rule but hopefully, they can get on the road and tour and make some money. Sade is one of the few artist who can stay gone them comeback and clean house.

Bullshit. Back when they were singing those songs they all looked good in the fact that we admired them. They were the cool chicks with the cool voices. Now they all somebody's mama, the younger generation can't relate to that. Image has always mattered contrary to popular belief.

The music industry has terrible producers, even worse music execs. Many artists are not being promoted properly or provided the right material. Unless you are in the minor 10% of artists with marketing genius teams and who are also smart in promoting themselves. SWV, Monica were not promoted with proper release or material to work with. People will not buy if you don't sell. The whole music industry is a mess. They only promote the same retread dance beats, artists. If the industry was smart, they'd do like Disney and clean house of every producer, CEO and start over.

As for their weight or look, if Adele can sell millions than the whole ”have to have a sexy image” does not always hold true. But, again she had a genius marketing team, mega promotion and old school producers.

Anonymous said...

@yALL They did promote themselves , what was the gosssip about one of them hubby. Thats promotion now adays!! I forgot the gossip and them. When will the record companies realize downloading free music is in and folks are not running in the stores to buy, if they can download FREE.

I'll take SWV over ANY of this other crap that I automatically turn the channel on..let's see Rihanna walking around on stage with a bathing suit killing my eardrums, or SWV singing in harmony with all of their clothes on..I PRAY for the day when real talent is a prerequisite for success because I'm tired of seeing people's backsides.

nobody knew of their album dropping !!! thats why the PTB don't want nobody of old skool coming back cause it'll take alot of money from their satanic artist they invested money in!!! also taj and leelee needs to accept that they can harmonize and thats it,coco was meant to be lead and they need to step aside and let her carry the lead,as for best buy they did the samething to chris brown actually they had alot of his cd's in the back of the store and wouldn't put it out cause it was sold well. oh my bad,it was walmart,an associate of walmart hit breezy up on twitter and told him that the store got a memo from corporate not to put out to much of his cd's and he investigated and sure enough they was blackballing him,so,SWV not selling has nothing to do with the young generation cause its not the youngsters with the money, its deeper than that!!! they're not selling high on the rnb charts cause they didn't sell out to the baphomet which is why they're not allowed to be great on the inside. i say tour small venues in the states and abroad and have a trusted friend or family member sell the albums at the shows, its always away to defeat the devil, don't have to run from that chump!!!

In the words of Biggie Smalls "Fuck All You Hoes". Those women can sing! Fat, skinny, bloated, whatever. We black people are on the bottom of every race on this planet for a reason. How can we not love and protect our older experienced artist. Artist that have proved themselves already. Patti, Gladys, Anita, Aretha, Tina and Chaka would not have lasted as long as they have if my generation didn't have respect for them. These negative comments show that this new generation ain't shit, and won't be shit ever.
Besides they're on a independent label, so whatever they sell will make into their pockets a whole lot faster.
SWV still sounds great and I like the fact that they all sing lead. All you people that think they need to show ass to sell records, I bet your young teenage daughters are the neighborhood cum buckets. Blacks don't have a legacy to look up to anymore. Slut for daughters and faggot sons running around with their too tight pants sagging.
My generation were able to look at artist act like ladies and gentleman regardless to how they lived their lives off stage. You retarded bastards don't even have that. Your role models are plastic surgery having porn stars/singers.

I don't even know why they put Monica name in it because Monica's album has been a mediocre success and she won't get dropped from her label. A 70% some drop is not huge especially when you consider that Madonna and Nicki Minaj had huge drop offs as well.

LOL @5:23. I needed that laugh.

On TOPIC:

So many negative comments...This is sad
I appreciate SWV just like I appreciate New Edition ( Ok granted NE preserved their sexy but SO WHAT.0 It's that nastolgia that their core fans want. When I see SWV I don't see manly looking women at all. I see 3 sista's that can sing and that I grew up listening too. They look like women who have lived their lives and are still living. I for one never thought that they were ugly even back in the day. I think the issue is that they each have individual looks/ features and I GUESS some folks thought that they should resemble each other. They are not family members they are members of a group. A group that sang a lot of good songs.

From 1993 up until now, who on this blog STILL looks the same? Seriously. Folks have been in relationships, had kids, dealt with the stresses of life, the up and downs. I think they are on the same level as the average person. If they came back super small people would still criticize. It's not like they came back morbidly obese. (ie Aretha Franklin) THE POINT IS THEY CAN SING! So I plan on buying the album.

BTW for all people talking about low sales. WHAT DID YALL EXPECT? I'm sure SWV ( or E one for that matter) was expecting to go platnum. The album is called "I MISSED US". Maybe this was a personal goal for them, just to put out another album. (Even Xcape fans would like that)

And yes, it could've been marketed a lot better but even still only their core fans will be interested. AND IT'S NOTHING WRONG WITH THAT.

Anonymous said...

they were cool back n the day, but the style of music has changed. There is no place for old skool RnB music anymore. If they want a music career, they would have to go with what music is today...techno, dance, rock, ect

Anonymous said...

DAMN! Why is the paid blogger dick sucking this old ass group of outdoor festival hoes? NOBODY IS OBVIOUSLY CHECKING THAT HARD FOR THESE "I SHOULD BE ON UNSUNG" broke back fat bitches.

Anonymous said...

@5:23-LMFAO!!! That's the best comment on here. I don't know what the negativity is about. They're on an independent label. To sell what they did and chart is good actually. People act as if they're on a major label. Some of these mediocre artists falling off like Rihanna, Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Gaga, etc. should be the ones really worried. The industry and stans are tiring of the autotunes, gimmicks, oversexed crap so their sales have been low. Lionel Richie's new cd is selling more than Nicki's and Rihanna's last ones so maybe this is becoming a wake up call to the industry. People no longer buy crap because you tweet it's good.

Anonymous said...

I bought the album and I must say; it's very very good. It's true RnB..There is a lot of bashing going on with this forum...why? Yes it's a new generation and RnB has gone downhill, but for those of you bashing the album and it's sales, give the CD a try. Listen to the sounds of real RnB/Lyrics...$14k was a flop by numbers, but I honestly think that they (SWV) really does not care. As LeLee said on Wendy Williams, it was just time to hear timeless music again...

Anonymous said...

The album sucks donkey balls period!

SYB said...

The reason you buy a whole album is so you can catch the whole vibe of the music in the album. If the job is done correctly you can enjoy and let the album ride from front to back. But with this bullshit they put out today, they are more concentrated on making radio singles instead of telling a whole story with the music.. like they used to do. So I could see someone only wanting to buy two or three songs off of a current artists' CD. Because the rest of the shit really does suck! Any way SWV, however you feel about them has produced a great R&B record. One of the best Iv'e heard in a LONG time! Hatin' asses!!

SWV's album is the BEST ALBUM that's been released in 2012 by far. The reason why there are so many negative comments is because many of these youngsters don't even know what real R&B sounds like. The entire point of SWV's album is for those of us who are tired of autotuned singers who traipse around on stage half naked just to make money. It's about TALENT. They had producers who tried to give them songs that fit what "today's R&B" sounds like. They said NO. They wanted to sound like themselves, and for those of us who are fans of theirs, they hit the mark beautifully.

SWV is of a generation where you had to be able to SANG, or go home. It wasn't just about image. Those who are saying that they are fat or whatever, um, obviously they've been eating good, so apparently they aren't as broke as you'd like to believe. I would pit Coko's voice against ANY of these new artists, and she would sing them back home to their mamas. It's sad that this is the state of R&B (Black) music--where those with talent get torn down by those who have not a clue what real music is. I have supported and will continue to support SWV because they are talented individuals, and THEY are the real deal.

Wow so much hatin in the room from SIMPLE MINDED Jack Holes....Who themselves are TONE DEAF...SWV is whats up right now so catch it and stop sounding all pressed trying to make the current GARBAGE your use to hearing relevant because their 15 minutes is almost up look at Wack Ass Nicki Garbage even she is changing up because her gimmick that had you idiots fooled has been exposed. "Beez in tha Trap sounds like Fergilious" But to you tone deaf losers that shit sounds hot and its not. From Beyonce with those bubblegum pop songs with no real meaning to Rhianna sounding like a Ricola cough drop commericial people are fed up with the FAKE R&B/Hip Hop acts thats are out now. I'm glad SWV is back and if going independant is the best way to put real music out there BRAVO to them.

THE ALBUM IS INDEPENDENT! WHICH MEANS THEY ARE NOT SIGNED TO A MAJOR LABEL, WHICH MEANS PROMOTION IS NOT AS BIG! However... the CD IS GOOD, AND THEY BANK MORE FROM AN INDEP. ALBUM VS. MAJOR LABEL

I LOVE SWV!!!! I brought all their albums an im from new zealand, their albums were hard to find but i got them. I have to say, this album is great an all but i expected it to be bigger an more epic, they should have mixed some of todays sound but still keep an old skool feel like mann did with his album. They are amazing an have great potential but they need to be more open minded with their music choices in order to sell big, i love SWV but this album was waaay to retro, it needed to be updated abit more, sorry i am young (22) lol
