Jada Pinkett-Smith sits down with her daughter Willow Smith and her mother Adrienne Banfield-Jones for a candid conversation in what Jada hopes to be an on-going series called Red Table Talks...
In the trailer for the series Jada's mother admits to Willow that she wasn't a good mother to Jada and a tearful Willow expresses the desire to be alone with her mother and grandmother.
Jada describes Red Table Talks as an intimate and honest conversation about Love, Life, Fame, & Family.
Coming this Mother's Day 5/13/2012.

My hair is short like Willow but I am much older than her, I will say this short hair is not feminine at all and I think little girls like Willow should grow their hair out as long as it can get.
^^^
Is YOUR HAIR Multi-Colored ALSO ?!!? Just Asking Honestly (NOT Trying to be Funny Though...)
its necessary to air this in a public forum??? And the kid,Willow, wanted to be alone with her mother and grandmother with the cameras rolling.
Keep milking it ,Jada.
No wonder why Jada running around letting that girl do any and everything. Mommy issues. Correct that jada before it's too late.
It's too late to correct anything. Bad parenting in hollywood (for MILLIONS to see) will not end well.
@10;37 that was a beautiful thing you just said
well that explains alot of things.
sad that some people in here thinks a head of weave is needed to be beautiful..no. willow is rocking the bald head, jada has rocked it very well in the past, and cant forget, imo, the queen of short hairstyles, miss nia long.
Nia Long's HAIR Never LQQKED LIKE Willow... I've ALWAYZ Liked Nia (She's a BEAUTIFUL Female to ME...)
NO 10 year old (Under H.S. Age) GIRL should ever be ALLOWED to wear her hair LIKE Jada ALLOWS Willow to wear Hers -- IMO
I guess getting personal on tv is a new way of making money...a form of reality tv.
@11:06 pm:
No one said anything about weave but you. You're confused, hon. You may need to learn to read WITH comprehension...
I think what most people are referring to is the fact that children are allowed to be too grown these days. Adults can choose to wear their hair anyway they choose, but kids are usually told (or at least used to be told) what is age appropriate/inappropriate by their parents. And it has nothing to do with "weave" (you brought it up), but a shaved head on a female, of ANY age, is NEVER feminine.
I think Willow is adorable. I am sorry that she is allowed to act so grown but I still think shes cute. Jada never grew on me but I will say that these three women have nice heads and teeth.Lol.
I complete agree @11:06. self hatred needs to stop
I won't be surprised if Willow is a teen mom at 15 or 16.
I think the short hair looks good on the grandmother, but not on Willow. (Maybe the pink color is throwing me off or something.) Anyway, I think short hairstyles CAN look good on females, just not the style Willow's rocking. (Just my opinion.)
all I know is, everybody that had jheri curls and had their locks chopped off back in the day are REALLY mad now.. self included and I was 7.. so Willow will be too!!!!
@10:46 no my hair is jet black I will never die my hair that color lol!
@ 11:01 thanks! I meant it!
@11:06 you may not realize it but you just stereotyped! before I cut my hair it was down my back, very long but I just up and chopped it off. I am 100% black and can grow my hair naturally to down my back (both my parents have long hair, my mom hair is very thick and long and my dad's hair is very soft curly and long) again both black. I HAVE NEVER WORN A WEAVE.
Anyway short hair is not feminine at all, when I shaved my hair the first think I thought was I look like a lesbian lol, I don't think I will be shaving my head ever again and Willow is too young for short hair. I used to model and I remember my instructor told me 'when you are young never cut your hair'. Young girls are meant to have long hair and if you take care of your health you hair can and will grow long especially if it's in your genes/family line etc
^ dye not die.
^ lol I meant say my dad had a lot of hair as in head full of head not long lol that didn't sound right my dad would not wear his hair long although he could have.
wow head full of hair not head smh I better go to sleep because my typing may be way off due to sleep deprivation.
she look like the lil kung fu boy from that cartoon that they turn into a movie Avatar he had the arrow painted in the top of his head.
@11:06 Dont forget halle berry! i think she was the first one who made the pixie haircut very mainstream
I love this...cool idea
I'll definitely be watching
@12:04
I will say that these three women have nice heads and teeth.Lol.
-------------------------------
I concur.
As do I 12:04....Jada mama is purty.
I wish more Black mothers would admit they are sorry alot of healing can be done with alot of Black women....deadbeat dads aren't always the problem it's Black women too.
All u people can talk about is this child hair.So what she cut her hair off. I get tried of seeing little girl with that weave shit all down their back. Let teach young girls their more to life beside hair.Damn what's wrong with u black people. Listen to what a person have to say, without judging their appearances. If her parents not tripping Y R U....
@11:37 SHUTUP!!!! What age got to do with wearing short hair....
@ 12:37 - I was with you until you said short hair is not feminine at all. I disagree. There are LOTS of women that can rock a short do and some actually are prettier with short hair, and do not look masculine at all. Maybe you just have hard features that were put on blast when you cut your hair. And all that family hair history..you sound stuck up as hell and like somebody that thought they were the ish because they had 'hair down my back'.
And Jada has the most hair at the table and SHE'S the one looking masculine.
DAM!!! JADA'S MOMMA SHOW IS UGLY AND TOO OLD FOR THAT BALD STYLE,
Thank you 2:14am....I have a shaved head, clean like Michael Jordan (after 15½ yrs of locs)and I look very feminine and is a straight woman.I personally love how it brings out my african & caribbean features that I got from both my parents (from Ivory Coast & Trinidad respectively).I constantly get compliments from brothers as well as sisters who consyantly feel they want to go natural but is afraid.I tell them it's our legacy,it's what makes our kind so special.Tell the tribal women in Africa, like the Massai women how "manly" they look.Have respect for your culture of origin and the ancestors....lmao at 2:15,I concur...
Dayum Jada are you and Will THAT hard up for $$$. I mean really...first pimping your kids now making your mom grovel on NAT'L TV??
Stop giving those Scientologists 75% of your family's income and let those kids be kids.
I'll bet if yall had a family dog..he'd have a pink mohawk & be in movies. Anything to pay those cult tithes huh?
SMMFH
SAY WHAT!!!! ARE WILL AND JADA REALLY SCIENTOLOGIST??? AND BY THE WAY, WHY DOES JADA'S MOM'S FACE LOOK YOUNGER THAN JADA'S FROM THIS SIDE PHOTO???
@3:13 you must be really miserable if you think that The Smiths as a family are hurting for cash. Obviously this was a special mothers day talk and I for one appreciates it. Women of all raves should talk to their mothers and daughters about issues that may have bothered them or their feelings and this is a showcase for others to do the same. Would my daughter have a bald head, no but Willow isn't my daughter. And Will and Jada are apparent when allowing their kids to be themselves. Why does it bother people so much, it's their kids. As far as pimping their kids out, why so? Cause they're teaching them to make their own money? My parents made me get a job at 14 and the end result is that I'm a independent woman, so I applaud them. Their kids will turn out fine and know themselves by time they reach our age. A black family in Hollywood shouldn't be attacked like that let it go and worry about yourself. If you don't like it don't click on the post.Same with Beyonce and Jay Z, stop being so negative on black people doing something positive.
Wow...I am amazed at the posts about hair! The video appears to be a candid discussion regarding parenting (joys and pain) and most of these posts are about hair...smh. Long hair is not the definition of beauty.....short hair is not the definition of ugly!
@2:14 sont worry, it was a quick fix. all the poster had to do was throw the wig back on
I see some of us have allowed the white man's notion of what's "feminine" or not infect our brains :/
I am excited about this series. I think the one thing that Will and Jada have always tried to do is share their life lessons with others.
I do believe that this conversation has happened in the past and in private. They are too comfortable talking for it not to be something that they do regularly. This time they just happened to have the cameras rolling.
I feel sorry for people that always look for the negatives in others. Please take a moment to examine yourself because you are dealing with a lot of hurt if you can only see the down side of others.
Jada needs to correct her mommy issues so she can be a decent mother to her children. And to whoever said that this can help black folks have a conversation with each other, most of us already know how shitty our families are WTF
Wow, I kind of like it. The Smiths questionable lifestyles aside, I think the convo is going to be good.
A lot of black mothers suck and it usually takes them having GRAND children before they can truly see how bad they were (provided the daughter is a good mother to the grandchild).
My mother wasn't necessarily a BAD mother but she wasn't a good one either. She had a lot of issues (self-esteem, drug use, etc) and was raped as a child. This assault forever changed her and she has never recovered from it. I had to put a lot of distance between me and her so I could grow up somewhat normal. I had to seek out role models in teachers and others who were more stable and expressive.
To this day we still have a lot of tension when we talk. She never says "I love you" or anything like that. I cannot go to her with any problems because she does not know how to just listen and is always looking for someone to blame.
if these kinds of talks can help black women heal some of the emotional scars then I am all for it. We have generations of black mothers and daughters who are really not connected and who have fake relationships just based on blood relation. That sucks for the child who really needs to know that Mommy puts them first and is there no matter what.
We need to stop blaming black men for everything because a lot of our problems as a community stem from poor parenting and bad choices that kids are seeing from MAMA too.
Jada and her mother look damn the same age.
Jada mom looks younger than she
Whatever. I'll pass on this one.
Not surprisingly, Jada was the only one at the table that didn't come off as genuine in the least. Gotta give it up to Jada though cuz there are few people even in hollywood that can fuck with his thirst for the spotlight. Fortunately, his wife makes $30m per film and can fund his narcissistic agenda with no problem, no matter how whack the shit is.
Jada's mom is a beauty. Wow.
LOL @ Bee Gee
Yeah Jada is something else. She is just so EXTRA all the damn time. But I gotta give it to her, she pimped the shit out of Will Smith when most other black women would have lost the game because they would not be able to turn a blind eye to the bullshit.
Jada reminds me of a white woman to be honest.
I didnt even bother watching this shit.
I keep saying that "stars" with no self control and a need for attention should NEVER have internet access.
Just shows how BASIC and THIRSTY they are for folks to see certain aspects of their life.
Willow looks like an idiot, straight up and I dont think it's cute or trendy to let this LITTLE GIRL do wtf she wants under the guise of her being "expressive" and "creative".
I didnt see the vid as I said however if the mother was not a good mom, then it's up to Jada to break that generational cycle of neglect. Her letting that skinny bald headed boy looking girl child she has run amuck IS NOT GOOD PARENTING.
All three...ugly.
Love it! Some Mother's and daughter really truly need to take off the gloves and talk. Nice
if short hair is "too grown", what about the school-aged girls in Africa that wear brush fades and short fros? My mom wore her hair short (like Jada's mom) for years, and it never took away from her femeninity. on topic: at least her mom can admit her mistakes. a lot of mothers can't. and i also agree with the poster who said a lot of moms don't realize they screwed up until the grandchildren show up.
Thx Jada! This is going to be dope. I would love for this to actually be on TV instead of a web series.
10:05, it's not that it's "too grown" to have short hair.
It's the fact that the MOTHER and FATHER ALLOW THIS LITTLE Melvin the Martian looking, weirdo do wtf she wants so she can show her "creativity". She even BRAGGED about not knowing really how to do math or going to school. REALLY?
The point is, Willow RUNS her parents; not vise versa.
BTW, what folks do and wear in Africa has NO BEARING on what AMERICAN BLACKS do in the states. Most blacks in the states cannot indentify with any african culture, sadly.
I actually think that this is positive. I think if we let it, it can inspire and encourage us to have our own "Red Table" with our own families. Why is it so much negativity on these blogs... someone please tell me.
JADA and her cronies are all up in this post which is so damn amusing and sad
I need Jada to break the bad mom cycle. I'm not the perfect mom, but I so make sure my children have a chance to be kids.
bitch please! An intimate and honest conversation IS NOT POSSIBLE when you a public image to uphold, they always sugar coat their flaws to gain sympathy, you will never hear a person honestly saying something like " i don't give a fuck about nobody else but myself and I am a greedy bitch ", out vices as humans are too dark we can never be honest , not even with ourselves
All I see is EARS!
@1:02am I think more so ANITA BAKER made this short hair style main-stream.
Every family has their own way of expressing their love for one another; Jada's family seems happy and are just trying to motivate other dysfunctional people who think they live a traditional life.
Like someone said when those nasty vinegar smelling Jheri curls were out back in the day, everyone male/female from age 2yrs - 92yrs were rocking em. I don't blast ones style if it makes em happy. we shouldn't live by other people standards. Willows hair is no worse than some of these bald-spot weave wearing chicks running around. I've never seen so many kids 10yrs and older rocking weaves like their "grown". But if it helps the low self esteem, I support it.
@10:36am You Mad?
I think most Africans can not respect or relate to American culture. If I recall not all blacks are of African descent.
Willow and her parents have wealth. You act like you know them personally. You don't know them. You only read the gossip in all the other blogs like everbody else.
Stop hating and envying others with wealth.
I'm a product of wealth, we have problems just like everybody else. At the end of the day I sleep and shyt like anybody else.
Remember, you make your own choices in this life.
Yeah,I dont know why this is on youtube. But kudos to her moms for admitting her mistakes. Just kinda strange though,Jada wasnt hurting for nothing as a child. Her moms hooked good dudes including Warren"the lawyer for all Bmore Drugdealers" ...so Jada wasnt raised real street.True ,she was raised up behind Mondawmin but that was when Mondawmin was kinda affluent.
But if her moms wanna take a fall for all Jada's mess, godbless her.I think Hollywood messed Jada/Will up as far as parental skills, not their parents.
Jada should not have messed with her face - her moms looks younger than her
All these wild grown out of control kids running the streets every day and all the talk is about short hair. Stop unleashing the monsters you're raising on the unsuspecting public
I believe that's going to be good
Ok...so out of everything the video clip showcased all most of you got out of it was Willow's Hair?? Seriously?? Really?? WOW!!!
I saw love, healing, and family.
11:17 what does HATE have to do with calling out Will and Jada on their obvious LAZY parenting?
You are focusing on the wrong things, chick.
It has nothing to do with wealth or hating that they are wealthy. What is disturbing is this trend they are setting with their offspring.
Can you not see that? You condone this madness? Gee, if you dont have kids, quickly get your tubes tied and if you do, you need to reevaluate yourself...and check ya self.
Buh bye. :0)
(to 11:17)And who gives a shit what africans respect and dont respect about american black culture? LOL them muthafukas sure will hobo their black asses over to the states in a nano second to try to BE LIKE black americans.
Girl, sit your silly ass down. Seriously. scoot ya rusty, big BLACK ass allllll the way back in that seat and dont say another ridiculous word. ;o)
^ LIES no one wants to be like black Americans lol Africans know better than that.

OMG I Heart Jada Pinkett-Smith. Great actress and so so gorgeous. I dont know which other celeb (besides Halle Berry and Toni Braxton) that can pull off short hair better than Jada. Jada's mom looks beauuuuutiful.looks just like Jada. As for Willow, Im sorry, as much of a huge jada fan I am, I just think she's too young to be shaving her hair off and all that stuff. she's only like what eleven? I think kids should be kids and not dive into everything so fast. but all the best though to them. I will be watching!

This is your brain on drugs, any questions?
Fuck africa and africans. Y'all niggas some musty, ugly, living black face looking muthafuckas that got the nerve to be arrogant. Bet there'll never be an african president.
^
Um where do you think the name OBAMA came from? Lol you think that's a slave name? That is an AFRICAN NAME. Obama's dad was Kenyan and his mother white so thus fulfilling your nightmares of having an African president.
You have obviously never set foot in Africa and doubt you ever will seeing as though you can't afford it and probably have never even traveled outside of your county let it alone the U.S. or outside of the U.S.
Your jealousy is hillarious at best because while you continue to rot in your envy African immigrants continue to take over your colleges and Universities, you law offices and medical practices and your beauty pageants and modeling agencies. Miss Leila Lopes still have the crown. Yes MISS UNIVERSE IS AFRICAN AND SO IS THE PRESIDENT.
In my Britney Spears voice *HELLO*
And, as usual, most of you petty ignoramus'missed the point of this....what's wrong with opening a dialogue between mothers and daughters about mistakes/resolutions/positive future relationships? Some of y'all act like you missed a few hugs and 'i love you's....all this negativity for somebody trying to do something positive. Crabs in a barrel, man.....sad. is it only bitter angry people on blogs now?
@SoHo, NY
Nigga please Africans ain't taking shit over except the taxi and ice cream truck industries, but more importantly has your clit grown back?

Cosign BAABBY!!!
I have not heard of Willow jacking anyone for their papers. Nor has she raped or murdered anyone.
You haters need to herd in your own demon seeds who insist on creating mayhem in school and in the streets, knocking up random females, having sex with bunk mates in prison and such.
Or if that does not apply to you personally, be outraged about your kinfolks and neighbors to whom this applies.
Black people KILL me with this obsession about Black female hair. It's ridiculous, it's distracting, and it limits us from loving ourselves and fullfilling our full potential.
Willow short hair is not the problem, it is the provocative style in which she wear's it. It looks androgenic. If grown woman or man what's to blur the lines of masculine and femine that is fine, but a young child should not be given that option. I am inclined to think that Jada probably shaved that little girls head for her own sick fantasy. I don't trust Will and Jada anymore.

I must say, Willow looks more like a little boy than a little girl, but she is prepubesent in appearance. What do you expect at her age?
If she will be STRAIGHT, then short hair will not change that. If she will be gay or bisexual, then long hair won't change that.
I don't agree with you regarding childhood issues regarding gender roles.
Many little girls have blurred the lines of what was considered feminine simply because they enjoyed playing sports rather than with dolls. Or they like short hair rather than long.
Some boys love to cook and to clean house or read books rather than play sports.
Even so, if gender/sexual identity is expressing itself in a child that is an issue too.
I think that everyone knows of a family member, neighbor or schoolmate who EVERYONE knew had behaviors not consistent with his/her gender. Hell, I remember several children I grew up with that I knew were gay, even before I really understood the concept.
Have you ever listened to someone who was gay reveal that they ALWAYS KNEW?
So what are you going to do to these children, beat it out of them? Put them out of the house? Reject them to the point that they are suicidal or having to hustle themselves on the streets at age 13 just to get a meal?
Black people have a HORRIBLE pathology when it comes to OVERT homosexuality.
Prefering to protect and defend all manner of criminal activity in their males (robbery, drug dealing, murder, rape, child rape), all the while rejecting their openly gay children.
Don't Ask, Don't Tell. Black people invented that one.
BTW, I am a STRAIGHT Black woman with short hair.
Whatever. How does hair prevent someone from reaching their potential? Lol. Willow is too young for this hairstyle point blank and yes it matters because little girls look up to her and are going to think this is okay.

And why is that NOT okay? So what if a little girl wants to cut her hair? It will grow back.
I would rather see a little girl with short hair and perm free rather than getting exposed to carcinogenic hair straighteners and/or hair weaves by age 5.

I would hate to see any little girl beyond the age of five undergoing such procedures.
Willow is getting more pretty and mama looks great. Jada however comma -- she looks like a overcooked yt woman. Skin bleaching in 3...2...1...
I will not be watching. Just another thing for Jada's ass to exploit for money & attention. Her harrible little band didn't work out, her show got cancelled by hubby and the list goes on. She needs something to do....so now she puts her daughter and mother out there and calls it 'red table talk'. This shit isn't even necessary, unless you're 15-25yrs old. Isn't anything private anymore? And honest my ass!!! Ask your mom & daughter how they feel about you and will having an open marriage jada.
@11:37 I WAS BORN WITH NO HAIR AND AS A CHILD I LOOKED AND STILL DO LOOK VERY FEMININE. I THINK SHE'S HAVE INDENTIY ISSUES WHICH IS VERY STRANGE AT A YOUNG AGE, WITH GAY PARENTS PRETENDING NO WONDER SHE IS CONFUSED. SHE WILL BE THE YOUNGEST OPENLY GAY ARTIST IN THE NEXT FEW YEARS!!!! SO SAD
I don't know why people keep talking about this girls hair..my God its just hair....which grows.
^^^
Because Black people are obsessed with the hair of Black females.
It's another expression of Black insecurity. It is also a powerful weapon used against Black women by Black men and other Black women.
The hair card is readily played on Black, often starting at birth with relatives and friends commenting on the existence or absence of naps and goes from there.
I have witnessed it first hand many times and have heard it as a topic of discussion. If she does not have the "asset" of good hair, she will catch hell from people in her periphery, even if it not her own parents.
Yet another tool to put a Black female in her place.
^^^
The hair card is readily played on Black women, often starting at birth with relatives and friends commenting on the existence or absence of naps and goes from there.
As the female grows, length becomes the next issue.
BTW, I rarely hear of young Black males being castigated for having nappy hair. Please correct me if I am wrong.
@12:37 no offense, but bitch stfu trying to place your personal hang ups on other girls/women.
First of all, we are not defined by our hair, no matter how hard Madison Avenue tries to convince us otherwise. We're defined by what's INSIDE our heads.
I am not my hair, as India Arie said. Not every woman wants to have long hair flowing down her ass. We are all INDIVIDUALS with our own style and preferences.
Worry about your own head, mmkay.
WTF did Jada REALLY do to her damn cheeks? Moms is aging properly... Jada, damn you, fix your face and get rid of "the Cassie." It's not a good look and she - Cassie - looks RIDICULOUS with a long ass mohawk. LET THAT DUMB 'STYLE' GO, CELEBRITIES.
Willow is a fugly girl. Will Smith looks okay. Jaden looks aight. Jada used to be fly 'til she fucked up her cheeks. But Trey and Willow look goofy and fugly and fugly and goofy. Shame. Hopefully she'll grow out of it, though.
@6:04, I would like to start by saying just like you I wear my hair very short. Similar to how Jada use to wear her hair. I am feminine with my style and I get more compliments from heterosexual men now more that I did when I had longer hair or when I would wear tracts and weaves. Short hair on women can be very attractive. i.e., Jada, Toni Braxton, Nia Long, Janet Jackson, Whitney Houston and Halle Berry just to name a few. (Just a FYI most men hate weaves).I am personally uncomfortable with little boys and girls’ initially blurring the gender lines. Children, Willow‘s age (11 or 12yrs) should not be concern with their sexuality at such an early age and that is why I am disturbed by her behavior. I personally believe that she like most children the in the entertainment business is being sexually abuse and I think this hair shaving is a cry for help. You mentioned girls liking sports and boys like cooking, well in my opinion there is nothing wrong with a girl being and tomboy and loving sports. So of the best athletes are women, there is not wrong with a boy learning domestic resposibitlies. Most of the Top chefs are men. So the interest in sports or cooking have does not determine a person’s sexuality. As I mentioned before I do not trust Will and Jada any more and I will not be surprise if Willow starts to act out like, Britney. Lindsay or Rhianna. Something terrible wrong is going on in the Smith family. IMO.
@capria30
THANK YOU for your comment. The post is about Jada admitting she wasn't the greatest mom in the world to her daughter, and all these people care about is Willow's hair, bald head/short hair women, weaves, relaxers, etc. *roll eyes*
If blacks discuss greatly about resolving issues in our community and the emotional and mental damage our people face as much as we talk about hair, we will make great progress.
