A neighborhood handy man has testified in court that he helped Jennifer Hudson's brother cook and sell crack cocaine out of the Hudson family home...
William Balfour is on trial for murdering Jennifer Hudson's mother, brother and 7 year old nephew in a jealous rage after being dumped by his ex-wife, Jennifer Hudson's older sister Julia.
The defense is pointing the finger at Jennifer's deceased brother Jason, painting him as a drug dealer and characterizing the killings as a possible drug deal gone wrong.
Two people, including Julia Hudson and Jennifer Hudson's former boyfriend, have already testified that Jason sold drugs out of the Yale street home and now a third person has come forward with even more damning testimony.

Reginald Jones used to perform odd jobs for the Hudson family at their Englewood neighborhood home, fixing cars, running errands, even walking the family dog, But under questioning Tuesday by attorneys for William Balfour, the 55-year-old handyman and former Hudson neighbor admitted he used much of the money he earned to buy cocaine from the singer's brother and feed a daily habit.
Jones also told jurors he would occasionally help with the drug sales, manning the front door to greet customers seeking $10 bags of crack from Jason Hudson, who had been shot in the leg in a home invasion in Michigan a few years earlier and couldn't get around well.
He testified he once helped cook powder cocaine into about 2 1/2 ounces of crack in the Hudson family's kitchen.

I know grown folks are responsible for themselves---I totally get that. And not saying that Jennifer is rolling around in billions of dollars, but if I ran into sufficient money and fame, I'd do my best to at least afford my immediate family members a better life. I don't know the Hudson family or their personal situations. Maybe they didn't want Jennifer's help because of their pride---or maybe she didn't offer any help, but I just think that maybe she could have did a little more to get her immediate family up out of Chi Town's Southside.

Regardless if this was a drug deal gone bad or not, why did Balfour kill a 7 year old? The issue is not drughs it is first degree murder, and as such he should be convicted.

Jason had a gunshot wound that was only a few days old when the murders went down. he was shot through the front door and his leg was previously injured. They didn't kill him the first time, but they finished him off and hte family on the second try.
Jennifer had to know that her older brother was selling crack out of her mother's house. Her mother knew and so did her sister. Jennifer will not be the first celebrity to have a dirty family. She won't be the last. The philosophy that "snitches get stitches" is what keeps events like these going down. What kind of mother allows her son to sel drugs out of her home?
Times have never been THAT hard that all decency and common sense goes out the door. The belief that one will do anything to survive doesn't apply here either (maybe in some 5th world underdeveloped nation that rule applies, butnot here in the states). I will say this.... there is always need for unskilled manual labor somewhere. There will always be jobs... just not enough willing or qualified people to work them. At the rate that humans are known to mess up or rise up... there will always be hirings and firings, thus job openings. Jennifer's brother could have gotten a regular job. It may not have paid as much as crack dealing... but then again, he paid for that with his, his mother's and his nephew's lives.
I question if the brother in-law really committed this crime. Was the crime committed by local drug dealers who were owed money by the crack dealing brother. The brother in-law with a long rap sheet was too easy a target/patsy.

Remember, the motivation was money. If the family is dead, the house is searched and no money is found... kidnapping the child to get money from the "rich" aunt would make sense.... that is IF you could get the money from the aunt before the police finds you with the child.
You just cannot take the hood out of some family members, and this clearly was the case of her mother and brother. I honestly feel bad for Jennifer-regardless. Regardless whether Baflour killed them or not, they chose to continue to live this life. My Godmother/Mother's First Cousin is NYU Grad and worked on Wall Street for years, and still lives in Mahattanville Projects in Harlem NYC for almost 40 years, since my Great Aunt and Uncle died, she refuses to leave and find somewhere else. She's beautiful and looks like Jane Kennedy look a like, minus the heavy weight. The family in Long island to family across the country asked her for decades to move....But my point is that you can't take the hood out of people!

Family I have who know Balfour and went to school with him, said that despite domestic violence with his ex they didn't see him hurting a child. I don't know him so I can't say.
Chicago has a history of finding convenient scapegoats for the crimes of others and that's why we always find ourselves on the ass end of a law settlement from someone who was exonerated.
This time CPD saw violence touch a high profile person and went on a hunt, but there are tons of families in Englewood who've suffered from this type of violence with nary a resolution.
Balfour's first public defender said he believed in his innocence but didn't have the tools necessary to successfully represent his innocence beyond reasonable doubt and asked that someone better step forward. TO me that doesn't sound like he was defending a criminal. Add in everything else and they need to start checking for new trigger man.

Maybe Jennifer's mom didn't want to leave Chicago because her customers lived there and her son had a lucrative yet dangerous job sellin' dope. Maybe her sister didn't want to leave because she was in love with Balfour. Maybe Jennifer sold her soul to the Devil and they were sacrificed in exchange for fame. Whatever the scenario, whoever killed them, was hesitant about killing the kid but knew they couldn't leave him alive because he knew too much. He was collateral damage.

Smh. A drug dealer will kill a child. A big time drug dealer will not do the killings himself, he sends people out to do his dirt. Everyone is going off assumption. We have to look at the case and facts. First the prosecution theory was the family was murder over a car. Now the new theory jealous boyfriend. I don't believe he did it. It would have took more than one person to do this killing, also his finger prints are not found in the car, no gun residue. Also if he was so angry with Julia why didn't he wait for her, why didn't he go to her job. The defense stated Julia was still having relations with Balfour even though he had a pregnant girlfriend and she had a boyfriend. When I first seen this case I said this awful this man deserves life. But after following this case there's no evidence. I believe the police didn't look into other theorys, it was we got this guy, he has a bad record let's make it stick. I feel sorry for Jennifer Hudson, but I really do hope they have the right man. There are a lot of innocent people in prison, convicted on circumstantial evidence aka use your imagination because we have no physical evidence.

Jennifer escaped that family and that's good for her. I do believe that her mother had this sense of denial or participation even, in the crimes that were committed in her home i.e. drug selling. She could have participated by simply allowing it. Julia, that horrid fat pig seems to have married that Felon at the height of Jennifer's career out of some warped competition. The thing is though, I just wish that Jennifer had pushed much harder to get her mother, at least, out of that environment. People say you can't make a person do what they don't want to do?
