After rapper Lil Mama posted a picture of her nature hair on Twitter she was shocked to find comments from other black women telling her she looked "like a shocked slave."
Lil Mama responds to her critics...
Lil Mama tells Love Brown Sugar
“I posted the picture of my hair and people were, like, ‘Omg you look like a shocked slave!’ I didn’t get one comment from a white person about my hair. All of them came from the sisters that had these bullsh** helmet weaves looking like a fake a** Nicki Minaj. They don’t know who they are. And the people they’re looking to for guidance don’t know who they are either, which sucks.”

solange has this awful look on lock, lil mama. I think she's lost and searching for something. Just go back to school, earn your degree, and settle for the simple life.
It's not the hair. People just don't like your manly looking ass or your arrogant ass attitude. Looking like a 59 year old tranny man.
That's a beautiful head of hair. @ 10:42, shut the f*ck up you self hating fool.
she has a beautiful head of hear, she should wear her natural hair more often and not those horrid wigs..
She is right! Too many dead squirrels leeching off their brains...
I love it.. I love Black woman with their natural hair... Love yo black self my sistas, I love all my natural sistas.
Only those self hating loathing blacks will make negative comments.
Ol, I want my hair straight so I can look like the slave master wife and daughter..
Tell me sis, if a man rapes you, would you go out and try to look like the mother fucker
She looks like a Q-tip.
I agree with her about the helmet weaves. Those things look so stiff and immobile, you could whack the wearer upside the head with a pipe or a bat and she'd never feel anything!
Why is it that when I wear my fro, I get the most compliments from other races? No shade to my own people, but why are WE so against and disgusted by our natural hair? I've seen tweets from Black people describing Black women wearing fros as looking like "slaves". Self-hatred is so apparent nowadays. I've also heard the infamous, "Not everybody can go natural." How can the aesthetics of natural hair not be for everybody? How can your biological hair not be for you? Amazing.
@ the second 10:43, obviously the hair has something to do with it judging from the above comments. YT got some people so messed up thinking weaves and relaxers are the standard of beauty that people can't handle someone who goes against the normal trends and rocks the hair that God gave.
It's not the hair...it's the struggle face.
Did she know who she was BEFORE she let her natural hair out? I hate a bitch that grows an Afro and goes all 'black panther' on that ass.. I rock a natural, but I still love my wigs and I respect a bitch mind whether she's natural or 'LAYED like Beyonce'.
@ 10:47....That's the damn truth right there!!
What was she trying to prove, that she can go hair?! I am not giving someone props because they grew their hair out and took a picture. Heffa get a grip....
10:51, she only made a comment after her own people attacked her for wearing her natural hair so please have several seats...
she has gorgeous, the thick hair. the bitches with the nicki minaj fake wigs are mad their real hair isnt long enough for a ponytail.
how can you diss someones real natural hair when you have a full head of horsetails on your head? that doesn't even sound logical to me.
Wow, black women are really ugly.
10:51, After years of relaxers and weaves, an Afro can bring out the inner-African queen in some women. For some, relaxers and weaves could be symbolic of bondage, whereas discovering your natural hair could ignite freedom and a vast majority of feelings. Every woman is different.
You know it's funny when i hear people say they get more compliments from white folks than black people. Whenever i dont straighten my hair i get lots of attention from black men and black women always compliment my look. Maybe its because where i live natural hair isn't super popular so they think I'm not different...idk. I just think its crazy some people dace so many issues. As far as lil mama is concerned idk why she cares what everybody thinks. If she likes her hair rock it out.
Such a shame that natural african beauty is not appreciated.

LMFAO you sound mad booboo. yes, black women with natural hair CAN grow long hair, down their back. im evidence of one. never had a relaxer, texturizer, etc. if i want straight hair for a week i can just pull out my flat iron. if i wanna go curly i can. i feel sorry for the black women walking around with cheap korean weave in their head. if they spent as much money & time on quality conditioners, reading on black haircare, hairstyles, etc they wouldnt need a weave.
That type of hair looks like it catches insects, small animals and smells really bad.
Just because you're black does not mean your natural hair looks like hers. While there's absolutely nothing wrong with her hair, my natural hair is curly and manageable with just a little water. People these days just don't know how to care for their hair, and assume natural hair means an afro. Get educated and do what pleases you, rather that's natural, weave, relaxers or wigs. Just do you!
@ 10:54
Yet white bitches are dying on a daily basis trying to look like us - using ever dime they have to get their lips done, their asses done - date nothing but black men....oh yeah, black women are so ugly that white bitches want to be us.
White women are the ugliest race of women - as a matter of fact, why ya'll smell like rotten eggs, wet dogs and day old bologna? If y'all skin smells like that, then what can their pussies and dicks smell like? -_-
This topic always amazes me. The amount of perpetuated hate Black women with natural hair get. So you think your superior because you have a long, flowing fake weave down to your ass? When you take that shit out, then what? I know so man Black woman obsessed with weaves, afraid to wear their own hair because they're insecure.
There is nothing wrong with the way her hair looks, but dont be hating on perms ok! natural hair can be a beast to deal with and perms make it easier to style. the white man aint got nothing to do with it. I damn sure dont think about white females when im trying to get my hair under control. no those nasty weaves, I aint wit that!
How is she dissing the ppl who wear those wigs when she herself has been walking around wearing those same "bullsh** helmet weaves looking like a fake a** Nicki Minaj". She needs to find a seat & stay in it.
Preach! @ 10:57am
Do we see Indian, White, Arab, Latina and Asian women buying Afro-textured hair in droves at their corner beauty supply stores? The issue of Black women wearing weaves is deeper than cosmetics; it's an internal disability, honestly. We've been told that anything Black or African is bad, unwanted and ugly. Black women are always quick to say that other races of women want to be them because other races of women tan and get lip injections. The funny thing is, Black women are always quiet when the issue of weaves comes up. Why are you trying so hard to look like your oppressor?
10:58 thank you. i also have natural(3b) hair, and have never worn a weave. haircare is a billion dollar industry, driven by black women. its disgusting how much whites make off of black womens insecurities.
It looks like pubic hair. Gross.
Only time I wear fake hair is during the summer, when I rock braids. Its low maintenance and protects the hair from day to day styling, and it looks nice(if you take care of it). Rest of the year I wear my (natural) waist length hair.
11:05, Bingo. The weave industry is in fact driven by insecure Black women. Granted, other races of women wear weaves, but weaves are so close to their natural hair texture that this isn't such a massive issue for them like it is for Black women. I wonder how much money Black women have WASTED on weaves.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tVeS1O5AmKc&feature=results_video&playnext=1&list=PL073A0D679CCB7805
I love that she is natural, but obviously she's just learning how to deal with her hair. She could have taken a better picture. But her mind is in the right place. Her naysayers and haters have the mentalities of the enslaved. Slave Mentality.
BUT............Lil'Mama always looks like that girl from the 'hood who's trying to look stylish yet for some reason, is still more than a little rough around the edges in appearance.
That 'Hood Chick that always looks unpolished even when she cleans up and tries to look presentable even with a Glamor Squad.
Well, at least she reps the 'hood with a natural. Baby steps. Baby steps.......
Lil Mama needs to shut up with that self righteous rant. She wears helmet weaves as well as the people she is throwing words at. Just be secure in yourself. For every 1 person calling her look a shocked slave, there is 2 or more calling women with weaves worse.
Your gums are as black and unclean as your hair.
There's absolutely nothing wrong with this picture OR her hair.
I have a relaxer, but I like her hair as well. Who am I to judge how another wears their hair. I can only do my hair as I like. If someone wants to say I'm not black enough or I don't look smooth enough aww well. Women need to live by their own standards not by the standard of the next man telling how they should be. I am sure your not going to be giving up your Nike's or white t-shirt which are Eurpoean as well. Can't just pick what you feel is Blackness! Have the woman dress her whole body in Blakness, not just the hair. Walk around shirtless show your boobs(Hahaha). This makes no sense to me. Do you and I'll do me.
Wear your hair the way you want to and let others do the same. Don't complain about people dissing how you wear your hair & then turn around and diss someone for wearing their hair the way they want to. Especially when you know damn well that that's not how you wear your hair, and that you are almost always rocking one of those same wigs you speak of.
During the Black Power Movement, sistas held their heads and regal crowns high, displaying their African enriched aesthetics. The Afro and locs were very popular and culturally invigorating styles that Blacks during that time were PROUD to display. It's amazing that today, Black women wearing their NATURALS are called "slaves", "self righteous" and "ugly".
Necole Bitchie posted this already, like yesterday.
Should a person really cares if another finds anothers hair ugly? NO! As long as the person wearing their hair likes it is what really matters. Live for yourselves people. Think about it we are talking about how a person wears their hair and getting upset about it. There are bigger fishes to fry in this SEA...
I wish you Black Queens would go back to wearing fros again. You are unique in your own way. Love yourselves. We (Black Men) will ALWAYS Love you, and not because of those ridiculous weaves. Trust. Love you always. RBM
Id much rather spend hundreds of dollars on good shampoo's,conditioners, oil treatments, etc and put the time and effort it take to grow my own hair to past my midback, which I have, than to put that hundreds of dollars towards a wig to cover up my own hair. weave and relaxers are just a quick solution for the lazy.
i admit,i did used to have a relaxer back in the day, mostly because I was pressured by my mother and other family.getting a relaxer was "the thing to do" when you turned 12-13, its what separated you as a teenager from a little girl.
As I got older I got tired of having to be under that damn bowl hairdryer every week at the salon, i got tired of not being able to get my hair wet, i got tired of that two textured look when I was in between relaxers, but it was still too soon to get the next one.
I began searching natural haircare, and found a numerous hair websites including black hair care media forum & grow afro hair long. I learned about all the different methods of taking care of black hair, like co-washing(washing with conditioner) baggying the ends with oil, wearing hair up so the ends dont brush against clothing which stops you from retaining length, etc.
Using these various methods, I began to grow out my natural hair. It is longer than it has ever been relxaed(just past my midback) and healthier than its ever been, with no chemicals breaking down the properties of my hair.
If I wish to wear it straight, I can. If I need to touch op my roots because of new growth,I can, unlike with a relaxer, where you have to wait 6 weeks. If I want to jump in the ocean or get my hair wet for any other reason, I can. If I decide to wear it curly, I can. Thats something chemically relaxed ladies can do.
11:23 AM is really a black woman pretending to be a black man.
Woman with relaxed hair can can have hair to the middle of their backs as well (like me, before I cut it). Yes, natural is great!! It's just how you go about trying to make people go natural is not good. I feel like I'm in church and all the members are trying to make me usher. Let a person watch and move that way in their own time. No one wants to feel like someone made them or that they are doing the wrong thing.
That's because Black women learned to not love themselves and embrace their ethnicity!!! They wanna be white! So they put all this shit in their hair and destroy it; They don't know how beautiful they really are! This girl's hair is gorgeous!!! But Black women will never know it! Too busy trying to be accepted into a culture that don't respect them. Look at Lil KIM!!!
@ 11:17
Not everyone goes on Necole Bitchie ok.
I dont care if you have natural hair or wigs n perms if you don't comb it its going to look a mess and that's what's wrong with this pic. She looks like she just woke up ain't wash her face and took a pic.
people need to look beyond thier own neighborhood cause the weave industry is not driven by black femles. they get plenty of help from Becky, you dont know she wearing one cause her naural hair really does blend in with the fake! when black women do it they create an effect called "OBVIOUS WEAVE". And please know that a lot of the black hair products you buy out the of the store is owned by black people. dont assume every thing is from the white man!
Haha, Most of ya'll are str8 up coon fried chicken... Hating on a woman with natural hair, meanwhile most of ya'll be getting the tightest ugliest weaves, and relaxers removing your edges like nail polish remover to nail polish, Jealously isn't cute despite what these rappers tell ya..
Oh and for ya'll racists stating that black woman are ugly and what not... Don't be mad cuz you want to be us deep down inside, In the mirror trying to be thug, booty poppin calling your best friend Niqqa.. I SEE YOU.. That's why your on this site day in and day out getting a lil dosage of the black life, cuz your not really about that life!!!
WAKE UP BLACK PEOPLE!! PLEASE BECOME ENLIGHTENED. HOTEP!!
You really think that it's because black woman want to be white. That's your opinion. No one can change it. Just remember that is not the reason for everyone. Think how you like. You don't think for me. I am a Black woman that loves me and I am not trying to be white. I am being me. How dare a person look at me and tell me who I am. So not nice.
here we go again with the racist comments towards each other. people can wear their hair anyway they want.
Hey Lil Mamma if you're reading the blog comments. Note ain't nothing wrong with your natural hair. Half the young ladies wearing weaves are bald headed, losing their edges and never experience their natural texture nor have an inkling of what their own natural texture feel or look like. When sistas bash other sistas...it speaks volumes about how they feel about themselves. Who the ugly one now. Thank you for sharing young sista gurl. Keep growing your hair and yourself...(^_^)
I have a relaxer.
So if Black women who wear weaves aren't trying to be White, what are they trying to be, exactly? A Black woman can't honestly say she loves herself and her culture if she's walking around with several pounds of straight hair on her head.
Actually she has a nice head of hair.
all the names people call this alien looking broad. she decides to pick the one about her helmet head. No one gives a shit about lil mama.
black women stop making yourself look so stupid. stop judging each other. this is part of why we hate each other so much.
Lmfaoooo at "it's not the hair, it's the struggle face"
But no, The picture as a whole is horrible , not just the hair.
I haven't had a perm in ages and you STILL wouldn't catch me out here looking like struggle mama.
I hate when people get to preaching about how black women get perms or wear weave because they don't love themselves when clearly the only person who looks unloved here is lil llama. Women wear weave for a plethora of reasons : to express themselves, to be versatile, to give their hair some time to grow, etc. I know women with hair down to their ass but don't like te texture of it so they wear weave.
I really don't see what the big issue is. Nobody is saying that the caucasian girl with the clip ins or tracks doesn't love herself. Nobody is saying that te Caucasian girl with the dreads doesn't know who she is, so why do we even have these discussions. Let people live their lives.
As for you , lil grandmama, watch ya mouth.
I like it. I am also natural and I love it. I cute it off in Jan and never went back since. Now that I know that I have curly hair I love it, I never knew the texture of my hair so I decided to cute it off, people thought I was crazy because my hair was long, but I wanted to do it for myself and baby people tell me wow you look good with your Afro and some people can't rock it but you have the look for it and it looks good. Hey lil mama rock your fro and don't let nobody tell you otherwise.
Co-sign with Lil Mama 100%. It boggles my mind how BLACK people are blasting her for wearing her REAL hair. Some of these SAME bishes REFUSE to wear their REAL hair. They rather let their real hair suffer and rot under that 12 inch Indian hair than to take care of their own hair and embrace their own hair. I know that its their hair and their money, and Im in no way one of those person who tells people to dont ever wear weave, but dont come at someone who's proud of the hair that grows out of their hair.I can see if thats not how black hair looks or something, but thats how alot of black people hair looks minus the perm, straightening iron and weave, so how can you make fun of her hair???
You'll never see Michelle Obama looking like this in the yt house. Just sayin'
ITS HER FACE NOT HER HAIR!!!
Her afro looks cute on her. I don't get all that name-calling about it.
I'm trying to get mine together, but I am really out of practice taking care of my natural hair...
I am not a fan of weaves, especially after learning how some of the hair is taken from girls and women around the world.
12:26 Um where did you think they came from?
I swear Quiana is from the deep south.
You'll never see Michelle Obama looking like this in the yt house. Just sayin'

___
It's the "White" House.
@12:27 I should have been clearer. I mean that the MANNER in which the hair is taken from some girls and women is like stealing it. It's exploitation, and funny, the men are making most of the money.
WTF is wrong with the picture???? I dont see anything wrong with it. Her hair looks thick and healthy. She has all her edges, no split ends, etc. Come on now! lol some of yall been programmed sooo much you cant even realize it. "How dare she post a pic of her real hair minus the weave? She coulda at least got a perm." Naw. Fuck that. She loves her natural, black hair.
12:03, Bitch you sound dumb as fuck.
Bow Wow with a FRO! But, I like it. Natural beats the green slime (yall dont know nothing about that) that relaxers put over your brain. The relaxer people don't want you to google that!
James Brown wrote a song about it!
I agree with LIL MAMA...they give this poor child the blues!
She is very strong female! I like HER!!!!!!
Its sad that this is still an issue in 2012
The Most High didn't make any mistakes when he created us and what grows out of our scalps
The irony is that anyone who puts a blonde weave with indian hair on their scalp is still imprisoned in a slave mentality and has become the exhibit A of what mass programming has achieved
Smh
There's not a damn thing wrong with that picture. I have a couple of white friends and I have NEVER heard them tease another white person about their hair or skin tone. meanwhile some of my own black friends will say jokes all day long about another black person's hair or complexion...makes me really wonder sometimes.lol
seems black women have more of a problem with her hair then anyone else.
seriously what does it matter, just shut the fuck up and worry about yourself, if she wants to wear her natural hair, big fuckin deal.
Beauty comes in all forms.....she is showing one of them. Simple minded fools
@ 12:56 PM

Sorry anonymous sweetie, I am never mad, but people post the most useless shit. I mean, what's next?! Beyonce posting pics of her new growth? I love that people choose to be natural, especially if they take care of it right, but why should she get accolades because she grew her own hair. I mean damn, can I get the same whoop whoop?! SMH.
@ work...cant read all this shit lol. Right on, lil mama. Im in STL, & I swear these girl's weaves look like tangled mangy doll hair. The rest dont have any damn edges, plus they look alike. Just becausr your friend can rock a weave dont mean u can. Wear the hair that compliments your features, not fight against them...natural or otherwise.
and the hair discourse continues
I wonder - could the "most beautiful woman" have still won that title with her natural hair instead of a blonde weave?
@1:14 Well, in our society, going natural after wearing a perm for years is sort of a big deal. But I get your point - it really shouldn't be such a big deal.
I've seen some weaves being sewn in and it looks so tight!!! Ouch!!!
I have never seen any weave damage everybody talks about - is it permanent?
Bald-headed ass bitches, runnin' down to Kim Chung Seong's "Beauty Supply", wastin' ya rent money on the hair of European women--
************************
Do you Lil Mama I went to the beauty supply store the other day do you know they tried to sell 3 tracks of Remy for $59.00 PLEASE!! I support all women who go the natural route.
@Dreadee, Clearly you're incompetent and can't grasp the OVERALL figurative picture of this post. In a society where anything Black or African is viewed as bad, unwanted and ugly, many Black women are growing their natural hair out to embrace who they TRULY are. Damn, do you understand now?
And what hit song has she ever had? So tired of people impersonating celebrities.
What about the women like me who have suffered from alopecia since the age of six? My son suffers from it also. Some of us are confined to wigs...did y'all ever think about that when you're throwing the ''they are self-hatred'' shots????
Fuck that!! I wear my hair naturally too. It is naturally curly, and I use products that enhances and accentuates them. I haven't had a perm for at least 5 years. HOWEVER, there are rules to this shit, and if you cannot rock it or pull a style off, leave it to those who can. THIS BITCH LOOKS LIKE A BLACK Q-TIP! THIS HAS TO BE A PUBLICITY STUNT, BECAUSE NO ONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND WOULD THINK THAT THIS SHIT LOOKS GOOD, OR EVEN OKAY. I THINK THE BITCH HAS MENTAL PROBLEMS.
Oh, and looking like a fucking q-tip does not mean you know who the fuck you are! Yes, she does look like a shocked slave. If your gonna go natural, STYLE YOUR FUCKING HAIR! Ain't nobody got time for this shit!
i love her natural hair as well, but why shes talking about nicki minaj horrid wigs when she be on americas best dance crew with the same kinda wigs is beyond me. she shoulda styled it before she posted herself looking like the bride of frankenstein. that is all.
@1:34 do you wear wigs that looks like nicki minaj's???
The most envied, hated, hunted, disrespected, stereotyped, ignored, persecuted, misunderstood person on the planet==THE BLACK WOMAN,JUST IN CASE YOU HAVE FORGOTTEN JUST HOW BEAUTIFUL WE ARE, HERE's A REMINDER.. TO ALL MY BEAUTIFUL BLACK SISTERS OUT THERE DONT EVER FORGET THIS, the song is dope too
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BrHZazQuhdM&feature=results_main&playnext=1&list=PL2A0B066A7094D1A2
I like her hair. It looks thick and healthy. However she should be more patient with others after all she used to be one of the gorillas wearing the helmont weaves. On another note Oprah needs to adopt her she seems lost and desperate to be accepted and I hate that people are so hard on her even though she played herself when she jumped on the stage with Jay so she may be a bit cray.
What distinguishes BLACK/AFRAKANS from other races is our HAIR!! If you find our hair texture on the heads of individuals in other races, it is because they have OUR blood. We should be PROUD and NOT ashamed of our hair. Black hair is ORIGINAL and UNIQUE.
Black hair has INTELLIGENCE. It acts as an antenna and receives 'signals' in the form of MAGNETIC WAVE ENERGY (or radiant potential) from astral bodies (stars). Since ENERGY and FORCES govern existence, the BLACK HUMAN has built-in communications energetically, biochemically and physiologically which directly associated with the production of MELATONIN and MELANIN.
The tight spirals that grown our scalps is a fRAktal geometric correlation to the spirals of 2-strand DNA found in every human cell--to the spiral patterns and formations in nature--to the spiral movement and gyrations of astral and celestial bodies in the BLACK UNIVERSE--and to the natural movement in our dances.

No,I don't wear blonde wigs but to some people, just wearing a wig that's dark brown screams self-hatred. Like I said before, some women like myself have alopecia and are not in the position to pay thousands of dollars for temp surgeries.
@1:34,
Good point sis. I don't think we are talking to people like you with a legitimate resaon to wear a wig. I hope you are not offended. But I wll think about your post next time I critisize. Thanks for sharing.
@1:33, I bet you bought some cheaper weave! you need to stop. I hate when ppl say, Im going natural but still put shit in their hair. That grease aint natural, that moouse aint natural, all that shit you put in your hair has chemicals. NO-FUCKING-BODY IS NATURAL UNLESS THEY DON'T USE SHIT BUT WATER! If I put a perm in my hair and there is NO HORSE IN IT, ITS NOT MY NATURAL HAIR???? Just like that bitch said in her comment, she has "natural hair" but does shit to "accentuate" it. Perm accentuates your natural hair as well. Do sell your bullshit to someone else please. I have no sides permed or unpermed because what your choose to do with your hair is your business, but put your "self hating theory" shit on someone else because I like to use a perm. I know who I am as a STRONG BLACK WOMAN. I know what my ancestors went through and I know what I AM CAPABLE OF IN THIS DAY AND AGE. So if I WANT TO PERM MY HAIR BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO FUCKING GO THROUGH A FUCKING HEADACHE TO DEAL WITH MY HAIR I WILL DO SO. I don't hate myself, I love myself. Whether my hair is permed or not.
10:58 exactly. im also another natural who has hair down my back,no chemicals. its funny, the same women talking shit for having natural hair(Which THEY have under the wigs) are the same females who NEED IT because their hair is so short and damaged. smh! since when is having long,REAL, natural hair an insult? some of them cant even take off their wig around their men, theyre so insecure. Some black women need therapy.
tell it lil mama
Not knocking her one bit! Go ahead be natural. I decided to do it a year ago. Best decision for my hair--- chemical free. There is nothing wrong with natural or extensions to help the growth. But people should not knock her for being natural. Too many health issues with relaxers now causing cancer.
@superslim. true!!! *2chainz voice*
This is the best picture I have seen of Lil Mama, unfortunately this type of natural looks doesn't sell. Why should the PTB promote Black Women in all their Natural glory when they can make millions of them.Promoting types like Beyonce,Nicky Minaj etc who are part of the problem instead of being part of the solution.I cant wait to see how Beyonce styles Blue's hair.
Natural straight wavy or curled I don't give a shit whatever you do wear it well - that shit on her head looks like heat miser... period end of story.....
@the real fedup, the food you eat can cause cancer? Why are you making that an excuse?
@2:12 she'll be gluing tracks in blues hair by the time she's 1.
seriously though, black women spend money on weaves so they can pretend & fantasize like they have long hair, right? who not spend that $$ on good products so you can have that long hair for real?
@the real fedup the deoderant you use can cause alzheimers, are you going that natural? The food you eat can also cause diabetes, are you a vegan, the energy you use is causing "global warming" are you going green? There is always an excuse.@2:14 shes delusional. If you gon change one thing about yourself for the better, change everything to give yourself a better life!!!
@11:24. Right on. LOL. I agree with everything you said. Btw I have no problem with how any woman chooses to wear her hair but if it is damaging to your hair and scalp to achieve a certain look then you might want to reconsider some things. Relaxers are harmful to the scalp and lacefronts are damaging to your edges but it is still your prerogative. I think the reason black women become happy about their natural is because it is very freeing to not have to wrap your head up at night unless you want to, or get you hair wet in the shower, or go to the gym and workout really hard or go swimming any day of the week and not have to spend hours at home or the salon trying to get your hairstyle back. I did like relaxed hair styles and weaves but just on other woman. I don’t necessarily like lil mamma personality but she does have a beautiful crop of natural and healthy hair.
true @ 2:15, but white women are wearing weave and getting perms too. we are the only ones that "hate" ourselves for doing things to image that we want to change. if i don't want a nappy head, i shouldn't have to have a nappy head if i don't want to. it damn sure don't mean i hate my self.
Black women have always had intricate geometric hair designs and styles that went beyond the 'fro'. Certain styles denoted status within their respective cultures. A bald or clean shaven head is STILL highly regarded by AfRAkans on the continent as the pinnacle of beauty and femininity.
Since Caucasians IMPOSED their ways onto the West and Central AfRAkan captives they brought to the 'new world', you'd hardly find a Black American that operates OUTSIDE of white-centered thinking. Black Americans are conditioned to AFFIRM white beauty--period. This BEHAVIORAL PROGRAMMING is embedded. Whenever a Black woman adorns hair that doesn't reflect BLACK HAIR, but that which grows on the scalps of OTHER races, she speaks volumes how she sees and values herself and kind.
Thankfully, some Black women are 'awakening' and healing themselves of this trauma, regaining confidence and starting to assert and affirm their own unique beauty--that existed BEFORE the Caucasian was born.
Her hair is beautiful its just like a poster said her nasty ass self entitled attitude and her strong ass old man tranny face.
ppl that go natural are like those sanctified crackheads, always trying to act like they ain't had a perm just a week ago, and go crucifying those who still get perms lol.
I think her look is beautiful. She should be proud.
@ 2:00pm
Lmaooo! Never thought of it like that! I think lil mama looks beautiful. Her hair looks healthy and gorgeously thick! I'm glad to see more sistas going natural. It makes me smile.
@ the anonymous poster that has alopecia: that is a serious ailment, however, no one is criticising the ppl that need wigs for medical purposes. i.e. alopecia/cancer etc., those comments are directed at ppl that can grow hair but ARE INSECURE to be seen in public with weave, wigs, and chemicals. I agree with the other posters, this is much deeper than "preference", these women have a hatred and disdain for afro or anything untexturizrd. It reminds me of that ad campaign showing a sculpture of an afro implyung it was unprofessional or unkempt. There was so much outrage over that ad, yet lil mama is getting attacked with slave and ugly comments? If that not a self hate mentality, I don't know what is. Shit.
2:32 I think what you are referring to is a 'relaxer'. A perm would turn hair curly, which black women already have. A relaxer would turn hair straight.
If youre going to make an ignorant comment,at least know the proper terminology. Imbecile.
2:24, Amazing comment.
Why do Black women who wear weaves always want to throw White women and other non-Black women into the mix? White and non-Black women generally have a NATURAL HAIR TEXTURE THAT VERY CLOSELY RESEMBLES EXTENSIONS AND WEAVES. Are we clear on this? I'm a Black woman and NO, I don't think White and non-Black women who wear weaves and/or extensions are "self-hating". They aren't necessarily hiding their hair; they're simply enhancing it. Black women, who wear weaves on the other hand, in my opinion, ARE "self-hating" because they're embracing hair that isn't natural or aesthetically pleasing to them. Do we see non-Black women embracing and spending thousands of dollars on Afro-textured hair? Hell no. I call it like I see it. There are DEEP internal issues within the Black community and weave wearing is one of them. I care not to read any excuses for as to why Black women keep disrespecting their natural kinks and coils.
3:20 THANK U,THATS exactly what I was just thinking then i came across your comment. white people arent buying fake hair thats a different texture from theirs, they are buying the same texture hair as theirs! therefore enhancing it like u said.
black women, whose natural texture is afro/curly hair, buy these indian/remy/baribie doll/anything thats NOT afro hair to put in their heads.
THERE is the difference.
dont do shit for attention...natural eye brows but (fucked up)manicured eye brows???? Where they do that at?
coconut oil is natural, the shampoo I buy from Trader Joes is natural, aloe vera gel is natural, shea butter is natural, iDr Bonners soap is natural, glycerin is natural to the gnorant poster that said unless you use water you aren't using natural products. i went natural in 1990 because I am allergic to everything unless it's 100% natural. i eat organic foods, no meat, and didn't give a shit about nay negative comments from family or friends about my hair. It's just a female thing, guys can wear braids it's not a bid deal or a movement. I wear braids, braids with beads, twists, cornrows, ponytails, etc. Even if you are not natural stay away from shampoos with sulfates or parabens these stripthe hairs natural moisture and are found in breast cancer cells. if you abuse your body in you 40's it will come back to haunt you
@2:40, Beatifully said. Thanlk you.
Thank you.
Why should the PTB promote Black Women in all their Natural glory when they can make millions of them.Promoting types like Beyonce,Nicky Minaj etc who are part of the problem instead of being part of the solution.

This!
No matter if you view it as political or not, wearing your hair natural is a political statement because it goes against the status quo. I went natural years ago for myself and a genuine curiosity of what my natural texture looked like. What I found, I fell in love with and have embraced it to this day. I don't knock women who choose to wear relaxers, but those same women come up to me, stare and compliment my natural hair on a daily basis. It is liberating to wear your hair in its natural state. It is glorious and indeed has an energy and beauty that people are attracted to. Natural sisters know what I mean. You just can't get that with limp and lifeless hair that has been relaxed and beaten into submission.
2:04pm you made me smile!
Queens,
You can where YOUR hair however you want. Kinky curls, afro, straight, relaxer, weaves, braids, locks, whatever. The world is obsessed with your beauty. "They" care way too much about how YOU wear YOUR hair. F__ what they say and DO YOU Queen :)
Black love!

Good Hair by Lonnice Brittenum Bonner
This book changed my life in high school. Highly recommended if you're struggling with hair issues and/or on the fence about whether or not natural hair is for you.
for 3:20 and the dick rider under her, its not self hating if i enjoy my hair the way it is permed brazillian blown, coiled, braided, afro.i would be self-hating if i took all that shit michael jackson did to be another race. you get self hating from my hair? where is the world coming to when i can't even perm my hair without hating my black heritage. & white ppl get perms for their hair to be curly, are they self hating. it always comes in comparision to white ppl because everytime black ppl do something, its because we want to be white. everyone has had a perm before. depending on your reason to go natural from not wanting to always worry about your hair when you go swimming or your hair being damaged from the perm, you shouldn't knock a person for doing what they want to do with hair.
@320, so if i used curly or kinky weave, its not self hating? come on, think yo!
I would die if I had the kind of hair that can stand on it's own, that must suck big time.
3:40, i agree. i was ignorant for saying that, but at the end of the day, black women get stereotyped everyday. and i feel this is one way to get our mind off of us coming together in all. we are on a blog site getting pissed and attitudes w/ ppl we will never know or meet in our lives instead of accepting what we individually stand for, natural or permed. this is why white women make videos w/ brothers sitting right beside them talking about how white women are taking over. if you like your natural hair, i love it. but just because i would rather wear a perm, im not black enough is basically what you all are saying. its even more ignorant that us as black ppl as strong as we are together, will let ANY AND EVERYONE tell us beauty is a individuals.
@2:34 I see you are one of them talking down on a person for the sole purpose of making someone feel stupid because of an ignorant comment. get your life!
4:27 and 4:29, Both of you are mindless drones, so brain-washed by White propaganda that you've totally failed to see my point.
Truthfully, you black ladies have the worst hair imaginable. How on earth do you get a comb or brush if anything at all, through that?
4:27 Who said anything about self hating? Scan those two comments that you referred to and PLEASE point out to me where either of them mention "self hating. Freudian slip? You just projected your TRUE FEELINGS about yourself. Get therapy.
DO not feed the stormfront trolls, thanks.
@4:42 Well whoever you were referring to was right about you being stupid and ignorant, since there IS NO 2:34. LMFAO
If I were non white, as that fool above, I would get on this site and dog all yall. Look at what were a posting on a national site for all to see. This is self hating, not the topic of natural or relaxed hair.
@5:01 stop riding and sucking sooooooo much dick! LAUGH YOUR ASS OFF ABOUT THAT
Beautiful hair! Black hair is phenomenal. It's the only kind of hair that grows out towards the sun like a crown. Only True Queens wear crowns. Love it!
4:59 "I DO BELIEVE THEY ARE "SELF HATING" BECAUSE THEY ARE EMBRACING HAIR THAT ISN'T NATURAL OR ASTHETICALLY PLEASING TO THEM". I can read and I KNOW WHY I MADE THAT COMMENT. I don't need help therapy you do. Even if I choose to relax my hair, it is because I WANT SOMETHING DIFFERENT, NOT BECAUSE I DON'T WANT TO SEE MY HAIR IN ITS NATURAL FROM. If ppl get their hair straightened, whether by relaxer or straighning comb, then they are self-hating is what you implyed lady.
THATS AMAZINGLY PUT, LOVE IT @5:15!!!!!!!
5:01 LOL i just noticed that! what an idiot!
Brillo heads!
5:21 bottom line NO ONE said anything about self hating until YOU DID. Stop telling your feelings of self hate to us and tell it to a therapist.
@5:21
And no sweetie, it was not I who initially made the comment. I just like to point out lies and hypocrites.
BTW please use spell check if you cant spell on your own. Going through your paragraph was horrifying and an insult to my intelligence.
I repeat, please get therapy for your self hating issues.
^FIRE!!!!!
To the trolls:
If Black hair is so 'bad', tell me why lifeless, flank, dog/goat hair of Neanderthal-Primates-Caucasians is a haven for lice infection and a public health risk requiring fumigation?
@4:27 You are no better than Michael Jackson trying to be white with all those perms and wigs. PERIOD. And FYI Michael had vitaligo what's your excuse?
@6:29, and he didn't molest little boys, yea right!!! I guess vitaligo makes the texture of your hair soft like a white person's hair too.... SHUT THE FUCK UP!
I agree with people who say they should be able to wear their hair however they please, but the insults like "shocked black slave" thats just pure self hate. There's no denying it especially when many of us on this site had ancestors who were slaves.
I see a lot of women with weaves and wigs and I see that a lot of it is insecurity.
A lot of beautiful women rock weaves and wigs but its not theirs. Some women cant even leave the house without it. when a long yaki weave because an extension of ones self thats some deep routed shit. That insecurity is on display for everyone to see regardless of race. I dont think there is anything ugly about wearing the hair the way it grows out of your head :/
i love how everyone in this comment section has long beautiful natural shoulder length hair when in reality u have only crispy damaged hair that doesnt even pass your ears. GOTTA LOVE THAT INTERNET!
*becomes
@5:29, Its quite alright because you got what I was saying. SPELL CHECK ASIDE TEACHER, You asked me to point out where YOU said that black woman "self hate" and I did. You are a hypocrit and a liar saying you didn't say ANYTHING about self hate. You are masking your forgetfulness or just plan stupidity on my misspelled grammer is pretty pathetic and needs to be called out. Thanks and that is all.
!!! @706!!!
why yall mad tho??? yall people going back and forth like yall gone meet up & fight. shut the hell up. yall stay on the internet too much if yall keep commenting on this throughout A 24 HOUR DAY!!! Shut up & move on!
^ lol pot calling the kettle black much..
why u mad tho 7:15 lmao
7:15
Stupid ass bitch, take your own advice STFU! and move on. Bum bitch!
who goes on a black website and types disparaging comments about black hair? a jealous mofo obsessed with black people
@7:04 You shut the fuck up you don't know shit. He was cleared of THOSE CHARGES IN A COURT OF LAW. Acting as if you're self-hating as was there. Bitch YOU ARE THE PEDOPHILE in addition to a self-hating trollop. Put those toxins on your nappy as head it still won't change the fact that you are desperately trying to what you can NEVER be. Now back under the bridge trollop
&7:06
Projecting your insecurities onto others will not make you feel better about yourself.
*flips luscious,natural hair*.
I'm natural now, but spent many years getting perms and having my hair fall out. My hair is the healthiest, longest it's ever been. If women relax and wear a cute, natural length, that's fine. We have some of the most beautiful styles, if it's natural or relaxed. But when you get a rediculous Crystal Gayle looking weave, you look like a walking joke, not to mention embarrassed of your beauty.
Have you seen this saying? Fell in love the moment I read it.
Advice From A Tree:
Stand tall and proud, go out on a limb, Remember your roots, drink plenty of water, Be content with your natural beauty, and enjoy the view.
In other words, beauty doesn't have to be enhanced; sometimes its just perfect in it's natural state.
I love going to hair salons and braid shops and see all the different styles and creativity that black woman are able to do whether with relaxed, natural or with weave that other races cannot do because of their hair texture. Yall praising her but when she said that she had blond weave in her hair. She is not going to wear her hair like that because it is not styled and its blowdryed out. You can tell she about to get her hair done because that's how guys look before they get their's braided.
All this hatred on both sides is ridiculous. I get relaxers sometimes when I want straight hair, I rarely get tracks in my hair when I feel like doing something different, or I get my hair braided when I want my hair to grow and don't feel like doing anything to it. Since my hair is already short from cutting out the dyed part, If i wanted to go natural I would have to cut off the relaxed hair. I know for a fact that my face is not fit for a short Afro because I been looking at myself for the past 2 months until my hair is able to grip for braids (as I haven't had a relaxer or weave in my hair). That does not mean I hate myself or my race, it just means I know what works for me.
Projecting your insecurities onto others will not make you feel better about yourself.
*flips luscious,natural hair*.
how am i being insecure?? i am being realistic. the average black woman does not have long flowing natural shoulder length hair. u are a total idiot if u actually believe everyone claiming to have it in this comment section is telling the truth. funny how u responded to a message that was directed to the liars only. HIT DOGS HOLLER!! AND U DEFINITELY HOLLERED!!
^HIT DOGS HOLLER, I LOVE THAT, IT'S DEFINITELY TRUE!!!!!
...and most Black women wearing natural hair are simply gorgeous!
and most Black women wearing natural hair are simply gorgeous!
yes if styled correctly!! lil mama could look good with her natural hair if she just found a way to style it better. it just doesnt look good the way she has it. it looks like she was in a laboratory explosion.
um are the good white folks supposed to get awards or something?
9:42 but how would you know that, since we'er all anonymous? How do you know I havent been commenting all day? How do you know this isnt my first comment to you,and im just pretending to be the other anon? How do you know im not you!
This is me responding to myself @9:42
LOL.
Fucking Idiot.
Again sweetheart, you can try to divert attention as much as you want but your insecurities are clear. Just because you have a nappy ass balding head of hair with kitchens across all sides does NOT mean other black women do. BW can grow long natural hair down their back,as I have.Im sure your nicki minaj wig makes you feel fly huh? LOL
Do not project your insecurities and hate unto others. Jealously is a sin. Speak to a therapist.
Do not project your insecurities and hate unto others. Jealously is a sin. Speak to a therapist
are u an idiot?? how am i gonna be jealous of an anonymous person i have never seen or met? i dont know u. and u dont know me. do u think before u type this shit?? u sound like the insecure one.
BW can grow long natural hair down their back,as I have.
not really. it all depends on genetics. some black women's hair just doesnt grow no matter how well you take care of it.
people love to lie about the way they look when they are on the internet. nobody will ever admit they are a bald headed fat dark skinned short cockeyed troll.
^Yeah, like you.
@11:41 tell ittttt
lol nicki minaj weave cause you a "bad bitch" right? all the bitches that cant rock they own shit... YOU'RE INSECURE!! --->11:53
@ 12:19
didnt take long 4 u to "holler" did it??
black people can be so stupid sometimes. you dont ever hear white people calling each other self haters for getting tans or changing their hair color. since when does alteration equal self hate??
when a woman is putting on 80lb wig thats self hate.
when a woman is dumping toxic chemicals onto you're head thats self hate
when a woman goes through such extreme measures to look and feel better about her appearance thats self hate.
^lol
I dont think wigs are altrerations. They are more like accessories.
12:22
Not hollering, I simply caught the stone that, you threw, threw it back to you and made you "holler".
@12:34
but why did u feel that stone was directed at YOU? [crickets]
RIP post lol. this is a good way to end it.
12:43
It was not directed toward ME, but I caught it anyway and returned it because it was not very nice, Some people actually look that way through no fault of their own.
lil mama i hope u are enjoying this attention. its the most u have gotten in a while. i will be expecting nude pics once this stunt is forgotten.
Lil Mammy's hair looks awful.
dreadee
If she was Paris Hilton you would be singing her praises. Bitch choke on a rotten dick and die already.
We are a Black and Beautiful. We don't have to wear horse hair to be beautiful. We tried to look like white woman, instead of wearing our own natural hair. I luv a woman that can stand up and not go along with the stale style.
i don't date sists with fake hair.
To Black/AfRAkan Women:
What is the obsession with acquiring long, straight hair? What is the obsession with dying and wearing blond hair? Black women adorned synthetic hair in ancient times ceremoniously, but the TEXTURE matched our phenotypes. The wigs and weaves worn by Black women today are not based on AfRAkan phenotypes. Herein lies the REAL issue that reveals how Black women perceive the hair that grows from their very own scalp. Stop the denial. Blacks who live in WHITE nations develop insecurities about their physical appearance in three areas: (1) skin color (2) nose shape and (3) hair texture. (Cont'd)
(Cont'd) With critical analysis, one can understand why these insecurities exist. There have been consistent transparent communications reinforced by media images that Black people---particularly Black women---are not attractive unless they assimilate the physical appearance of Caucasians in the aforementioned three areas.
It would be IDEAL if Black women could overcome and dismiss the irrelevant distractions in our personal lives and with a COLLECTIVE CONSCIOUSNESS examine the STRATEGIC THINKING that went into creating the adversities we've faced over our lifetime, we could effectively neutralize it with counter-action. But many of us opt to embrace deceptions and remain ignorant to a legacy that started with the Black woman.
BLACK HAIR IS THE SOLUTION TO UNIVERSAL AND NEURAL COMMUNICATIONS.
Those who have a snippet of understanding about AfRAkan DNA KNOWS why this is fact.
I like lil Mama more everyday. I have my hair natural as well but I usually wear wigs for different reasons. Natural hair is time consuming and natural hair care products are not cheap but I adore my natural hair and so do white men oddly enough.
Black men at least the ones in my age group do not appreciate black women's natural hair. When I wear my natural hair black men don't look, let me put on my Spanish wavy they all on it.
Black women are the worst. When I wear my natural hair they laugh and make rude comments. I think it's because a lot of AA women find it difficult to grow hair with length. They get perms & weaves and if you don't have the right person to apply your extensions your hair will be damaged and break off. So when they see a sister growing out a healthy head of natural hair they hate.
I'm a relaxed head... I see NOTHING wrong with this picture, what-so-ever. Of anything, it surprises me (but in a good way). It surprised me when I first saw this pic because, when I see a black woman with out her usual weave, their hair is sooo broke off and unhealthy. Not long enough to put in a ponytail or anything... It's fucked up. Alot of black women that wear weaves don't care about the actual hair care, they just care about how they look and it's sad because those are the same women promoting the FALSE believe that black women can't grow hair. I don't care if you're relaxed, natural, wear a wig or weave, dye ya hair... I DON'T CARE. If you take care of your hair, it'll grow and it will be long, strong and healthy... BOTTOM LINE. My hair is past my shoulders, and I'm relaxed so I know. I'm not one of those sistas that's quick to wear a weave because my hair is fucked up. TAKE CARE OF YOUR HAIR, BLACK WOMEN. PLEASE! YOUR HAIR WILL PROSPER DESPITE OF HOW YOU WEAR IT!
