taraji should be in the cast too,love her

I might check it out.

SoHo, NY said...

No. The original one with the always stunning Julia Roberts and veteran actress Shirley Mclaine is a classic. A remake with these caliber of actresses? Lol, Lol is all.

Isn't Steel Magnolia a movie about white folks? Why is the King still acting like she str8. Go act in some dyke films. Acting like she's into men isn't convincing.

Anonymous said...

This sh*t is corny. And unnecessary. What are we going to see next? An all-black 'Gone with the Wind' with Joan Rivers as Mammy and Megan Goode as Scarlett?

Stop with the remakes!! Pay good writers to write good stories that we haven't seen before!

Classic movie. This one will be a tear jerker as well.

@Soho, bitch your negative ass never has anything good to say. Fuck you, you snobby bitch. You are not better than anyone else.

Anonymous said...

Nooo!!!! Don't touch that classic! I won't watch this mess..

@Soho
In case you didn't know, Phylicia Rashad is a Tony award winning actress. She is one of the best and classiest black actresses gracing anybody's stage. You are so determined to degrade Black American women, it's sickening. You're a miserable bitch.

EXCELLENT CAST! This will be good.

SoHo, NY said...

What have I said that wasn't true? Why am I being disrespected?

Anonymous said...

@12:52 You are just WRONG! Being gay has nothing to do with her acting skills. I am sure you watch a million other actors and like a million other rappers that are gay. Why not just commend the fact that it is an all black cast of black women doing something that was set out for white women to do. People stop hating gay does not make up who the person is. The queen happens to be a wonderful women who by the way produces single ladies and makes more money then the average straight actors out there.

They should have gotten a prettier actress to play Julia Roberts Character SORRY !!!!! And they needed better Hair and Makeup on this movie .. And jill does not look like a hairstylist .......she should have had a weave in that head of hers , more makeup an nails ...for me to believe her character ..
This movie was about southern woman from Louisiana and there trials an tribulations in life...I don't think they captured the essence of the original movie ... and i did not here any southern speaking. They should have changed it up a bit an filmed it in New Orleans .

They should really ban ignoranant people from writing comments on blogs. Ladies do the damn thing!

See 1:24 said what I was trying to say but without the typos.

I'll definitely check it out even though classics shouldn't be touched. I'd like to see new classics created (e.g. The Secret Life of Bees) which is a classic and IMO highly underrated.

@12:48: IKR!... What a breath of fresh air!!! But I disagree about Taraji. She's a great actress, but she doesn't need to be in every black movie. Kinda tired of seein her(but again, a great actress).

@12:49: I dunno why, but everytime I see your posts, I just feel so sorry for you girl. It's apparent to me that ur one of those ppl who wasn't or isn't shown enough attention, so you say things for shock value, just to have ppl address you. Not being condescending AT ALL because I understand. I didn't have the most, caring/attentive parents either, so I understand how that instills a need for attention in ppl sometimes. If you ever need to talk, I'm here. No need to be negative, just for attention. We'll value your opinion even if it's agreeable.

@12:52 Has NOTHING to do with the topic. Moving on....

@12:55: Smdh...THIS is why we don't have as many majority-black shows on television now. We don't get support from many of our own unless it's a negative/clown potrayal. I suppose Love & Hip Hop is perfectly stimulating and necessary to you...#MATURE!!!

@12:55 If you are going to remake a classic movie . Then you better come with it , an do it right. And SALLY FIELDS IS A GREAT ACTRESS..SO YOU HAVE TO COME WITH IT !

I LOVE Phylicia Rashad, that is all :-)

@SoHo
The more I listen watch and learn of Africa. The more I grow to dislike its politicians and ignorant people. I began looking for African based pages because I have loved a what I thought was Africa. But I have yet to see it in reality. Africa is in truth ran by white guys and the citizen are ignorant sheep except for a very small minority. Bleaching their skin, dressing and acting like Americans, talking like bafoons. Africa will get what she deserves what she allows! I will be content with my America!
:( this is a very sad realization!

I have mixed feelings about this because the original film was a classic. If I sit and watch the film to this day I cry my eyes out because Ms. Sally Fields played that part of the grieving mother! I may watch it to see how the cast pulls of their performances.

LMAO @12:55 sit cho ass down cuz uve gotten beside yoself. too too funny.

I dont see the point in making this. Some classics shouldn't be touched. This is the movie that made me a shirley mcclain fan for life cuz she was crazy as hell and didn't GAF in this movie.

Classic movie that should not be remade by anyone.

Anonymous said...

I wasn't moved by that at all. Yeah, they're going to get ripped a new one for this.

Anonymous said...

I did not see the original, but I will see this why? Because I can not stand whiny white women, but I love strong confident sensitive black women.

Anonymous said...

@2:34PM YOU NEED TO SEE THE ORIGINAL AN YOU WILL SEE WHY ..PEOPLE FEEL A CERTAIN WAY !

I have nothing important to say but i do live around the corner for the original home used in steel magnolia.. hmm.. but yall dont kare huh lol. have a good friday and fuck you.

I am not too enthused to say the least. Why do we have to "cover" white folk stuff all of the time. I feel it is important to build "our own" classics. What's next, a "Raisin in the Sun" Starring Justin Beiber?....I just can't today yall! I didn't like the original, and I doubt if I would be watching, although I love the line up. Knowing my momz, she'll make me watch it with her and Grandma!....SMDH!

@1:36

Thanks for the laugh you have me in stitches! You couldn't be further from the truth. The one thing you could say about me is that online, offline wherever I am. I am honest in all earnestly, having said that. I have OUTSTANDING EXCEPTIONAL PARENTS whom I love, cherish and adore particularly my dad who is an AMAZING MAN and the reason for all of my success. I am a daddy's girl, in fact I have my dad's name tattooed on me the only man who will ever be tattooed on me. I was going to tattoo my ex-fiance but then I wanted my dad to take full domain (markings on my body) So that refutes your beliefs about me.

I don't need attention, I get plenty of attention EVERYWHERE and believe me when I say this I am 6 degrees separation from any celebrity of worth mentioned here. I have not even gone into detail about that because I don't like bragging but if you saw me in person then you would understand. I have said many times over the reason why I come to this site. I am not going to explain myself again. I tell black Americans that I see in person those who are leaders in the black community how I feel and they appreciate my views and actually agree with me. If you'll notice the 'smart ones' agree with me. It's the ones that are mentioned that don't agree with me and like you get upset and use profanities.

This is a blog, where people can come give their views. Black Americans aren't the only ones who are upset with my comments. White people get upset at my comments too. I remember, when I was on the PBS thread on facebook and I said something 'provocative' and a white woman told me that and this is a true story she said "You would've been very popular on the plantation" as pretty as you are you would have gotten perks". I was floored. Not only did she insult me she was ignorant because she saw my last name and should've known that I am an African.

Anyway, yes this rant was necessary because you have me misunderstood. I am NOT here for attention. In various forums there are 'regulars' I guess I am a regular or was a regular because I may leave this site all together... but not because of ignorant comments like you....

SoHo, NY said...

@2:07

Really? Do you have a Passport, you need to go to Africa to experience Africa PERIOD.

Anonymous said...

Just hear for the comments...I haven't seen the original movie.. :/

Anonymous said...

I'll pass on this one. I don't want to hear Beyonce's annoying name while I'm watching a film.

Anonymous said...

Queen Les"Bee"i an is not convincing enough in this role. Looks like she is gonna suck! (or not really) She’s a good actress but this part was not right for her! Wendy Rachel!!!! Now that would have really “set it off!”

damn ignorance is abound. A BLACK MAN Bill Duke wrote and directed Steel Magnolias so you're comments why we gotta do white folks movies make NO sense. is this yahoo where any nonwhite story elicits nothing but racist comments?

Anonymous said...

I can't wait to see the remake just thank God that it will be on lifetime and not at the movies.

Anonymous said...

@3:41... Again lol, I feel bad for you. The fact that you wrote a novel to convince me, a complete stranger that you don't possess issues that you clearly do, says it all. It'll be alright love. It's cool. Your opinion matters, and your voice is heard.

NubianGoddez/ Auset Ra Amunet said...

I don't know why they had to remake that boring ass movie, it sucked the first time and quite frankly I don't see this being so much different, while I love an all black cast, I can't in all honestly say I would waste my money on this boring ass movie.

Anonymous said...

@Soho
Bitch, BYE!!!!

I will personally help you pack. Don't even try posting as Anonymous once you leave. Your ridiculous comments will give you away every time. Nobody here likes you or values your opinion because your snobby ass thinks you're better than everyone else. News Flash: You're not.

Dumb ass he may have directed this copy cat version but he did not direct the first version nor did he write it. The movie is based on a white family's life during the illness of their daughter. Don't believe me, check IMDB.

I feel the same way. I wil not be watching this film.

Anonymous said...

Iam have to watch this ,yeah the white version was good. But Iam hoping this black version take it up a notch or two....especially with Latifah playing a straight woman,this gonna be good.

Anonymous said...

Wow, there's a lot of talent gathered here. Alfre Woodard has to be one of the best actors in Hollywood today, not to mention Rashad and Latifah, wow. I'm sure the girls won't disappoint and will bring on the heat. The viewing eye determines classics, this race is too close to call, so let the games begin!

Anonymous said...

I think that Phylicia makes a good Clairee and Alfre makes a good Quisor but otherwise I'm not feeling the other characters. I'll watch it though; I may even like it as much as I liked the first one. It's funny because I only watched the first one because nothing else was on tv at the moment but it ended up becoming a favorite of mines.

Anonymous said...

The original, really is a FORCE to be reckoned with - say what you will; white/black, don't matter. This re-make, well I'll DVR it and peep it at a later point; though I will say that Alfre Woodard as "Wheezer" - SWEET JESUS, she may be the ONLY reason I watch.
