Last week the rumors that Tracee Ellis Ross would be leaving Reed Between the Lines were confirmed [click here if you missed that] and now Tracee explains why she left...
Tracee tells Essence.com
"It was that BET hadn't decided if they were picking up the show yet or not. During that time when they didn't know, I was offered a really amazing pilot for NBC, and BET graciously allowed me to go and do it."
"Then the timing got complicated and there was a need to move forward. [BET] had to figure out how to deal without me because I wasn't available. But it's not because I wanted to leave."
"I love Reed Between the Lines, I believe in it. There is a chance I'll go back, always. There's nothing weird about it."

She will be back on because her NBC show will sadly not make it. I'm not hating its just NBC is terrible right now and nothing makes it on that network.
Great family unit, show Ok
Tracee is AbFab. -- BK in Charlotte
Nice that there was no drama....
I just don't like how they will explain Tracee's character's absence. Like all of a sudden they have marital problems and they split up? They couldve written her character out as doing charity work in another country or something.
Traci is a professional and I believe there is more to the story. In entertainment you don't just up and leave where they have to totally rewrite the script at the last minute. T is classy and never wants to burn bridges You learn never to speak abd of something or someone in this business because it is small and you will definitely have to work wit folks again.
@2:32--Have to agree. NBC is a cess pool full of pilots that either last only 3 to 4wks on primetime or are dead on arrival, sorry by if I was Tracee I would I waived my options and rode out with BET.
Totally understand the 'GREAT' opportunity situation; however right now the 3 major networks are stuggling now and NBC is spitting out straight garbage, aleast CBS has some watchable programs.
tracee is gonna be in the american version of bad girls, which was a british drama about a women's prison.(sorta like the female version of oz.)
in other words, she didnt wanna wait around for BET and took another break, but now since BET made up their mind and decided to do the show, she was left hanging, oh well happens to the best of us, hope NBC works out....
I've watched the British Version of Bad Girls & I'm sure the US version will be watered down & boring so it won't last
I don't see good ol' ABC, CBS and NBC surviving in the capacity that they always have and still are for much longer. Tracee might have made out better of EBT in this day in age! This is the 21st century and with todays technology, we won't see anyone on top for 50, 60, 100 years anymore and that is good news to be honest! Major record labels and production companies are loosing because the internet has made it possible for the small man to be seen and get famous without the middle man!
More importantly, they can't deliver the same content the cable networks can with reality TV and series programing! In the last 10-15 years, HBO, Showtime, Stars and more recently AMC, FX and TNT have caught on to the fact that they can deliver the type of series programming Americans love with sex, nudity, violence, intense drama in a way that the major networks never could and never would be able to! Bravo, Style and VH1 are kicking ass in the Reality TV department. Because of that, the majors just can't compete with cable! If a show doesn't do well on the majors, they can get picked up by cable and revamp the program and make it better (Like TNT did with Southland which I LOVE).
To that I say GOOD! Serves their snooty racist asses just right! The majors have always been racist, have never really be successful at providing quality TV for people of color and GE should've sold NBC to Cosby in '93 like he offered but they were too greedy and now look at them!
can't forget about E!
Wit yo fine big booty self. OW!!
i bet u NBC paid more. Tracey will be paid for the episodes regardless.
I'm sorry, I don't think anyone was checking for this show. It nearly sucked the life out me to get through 2 episodes. Tracee chemistry with Malcom Jamal Warner was 'bland' and boring. This show was a poor remake of The Cosby's 2012.
just like her heffa mamma....she thinks nbc is better than BET. once the nbc show is cancelled after about 3 shows...she will be begging like keith sweat to come back....
I was so hoping that FX, HBO or Showtime would have picked up the US version of Bad Girls.
@8:16 there is no way that nbc can give this show the justice it deserves. they are gonna cut so much it's not gonna even be worth watching.
BET could not match what NBC would have paid. Tracee is underrated and she is a strong actor like her mother.
THE RAPTURE IS COMING SOON. IN A MINUTE NONE OF THIS WILL MATTER. GET RIGHT WITH GOD. REPENT, SERVE HIM AND LOVE ONE ANOTHER.
MAY GOD BLESS AND KEEP YOU ALL.
She looks like she got some good pussy.
@3:03, u took the words out of my mouth. Tracee is a professional woman, which we don't see very often. if it was any other person, we would know what happen, when and where, but Tracee, the twins Tia & Tamera and a few others are a rare breed, which is CLASSY.
Tracy cool. Elegant and all but NBC ain't been checkin for black character lead projects since Cosby--- and that has been a minute....
