It might be a good movie, but I won't be going to see it. I hate the way that we are shown in slave movies. How come we never fought back? You guys should check out this book called Runaway Slaves "Rebels On The Plantation" by John Hope Franklin and Loren Schweninger. They said that most books about slavery are a lie, that it's sugar coated. We didn't stand around like cattle. Those slaves got buck, that's why they were whipped and brutalized. They ran away, and fought back. White people accounts of slavery will have you believe we sat there like stupid cattle.
They have actual documented staories of real day to day lives of the slaves.

Slavery movies are very painful for me to watch, but i will go see this movie. Slavery IMO can come in many forms, but some people do not look at slavery in this way. It's a form of slavery for less fortunate people that are being robbed by the Pay Day Loan Industry. I think it's a form of slavery for African American people that have good credit score, but still pay higher intrest rates on loans.
I think it's a form of slavery when the United States banks robbed people and approved loans for people that they knew they could not afford the mortgage payments. I could go on and on.

I was a teenager when ROOTS came out and I remember all the back lash the white kids gave us at school. They went around calling us Toby and Kizzie. Lots of fights broke out at my school during the showing of that movie.
Yes, it was a good movie, I learned a lot, but I could not bear watching the whipping and rape scenes. I'm a grown up now and I get the point that this is our history, but I've seen all the slave movies I want to see. I don't find them entertaining or encouraging. In fact, they make me depressed.

You are correct, but The United States Government bailed out the auto industry and wall street , but the government did not do enough for American home owners in this foreclosure mess. J P Morgan chase bank, Bank of America and many other lenders have concealed paper work containing errors ranging from wrong dates and forged signatures on many mortgage loans.
I read this in the Wall Street Journal and that is a conservative news paper. I have also seen heart breaking stories on CNN about innocent families being duped from these mortgage companies and banks.
I do not think the Obama Administration has done enough to help main street America, but they bailed out the auto industry and Bush bailed out big banks on Wall Street. The only reason why i'm give the POTUS a break on this issue is because of the new credit card legislation that he signed and wall street reform that he signed.

If WE want to see a different kind of portrayal, then WE should make movies and tell stories the way WE want them to be told. This is THEIR movie, so they made it the way THEY wanted to. I hope it's a good movie, though.
Personally, I've been leaning more toward live theater and away from big budget movies lately. A lot of good stories and performances there. There sure are a lot of talented actors who are not famous, or maybe just a little...

Listen you idiots.....this is nothing but Quintin making a 70's Blaxpliotation movie. Period. I love the man. He brought back Pam Grier, fucked up Nazis and now this. Sit the fuck back and shut the fuck up and instead of watching some badly written gangster movie, watch something that actually has a plot.

"They" as in "Other, not me or mine, not my race"
Instead of "Black folks..we...us, I'm included in the race." And then you defamed THE ENTIRE RACE of black people, with SWEEPING generalities and no distinguishing individuals or subgroups of individuals.
So if you ARE black, you sound like a self hating black and that is a sickness that a lot of blacks are afflicted with. Look in the mirror and check yourself.

The last time I checked this was a discussion board where people write in their opinions. We know we don't have to watch the movie. We're not scared or uptight and we don't have a chip on our shoulders. We do have questions, comments, and concerns in regards to this movie and we're airing them on this blog. So, why don't you kindly go to another web page or turn off your computer.
Wow so many of us want to escape African-american history in this country as well as most of the Americas. Our ancestors tragedy should never be forgotten because once you forget you can be easily subjected to repeat the same history. Don't think it cannot happen again. The Jews did not think what happen to them could happen after living among Europeans for thousands of years. By the same token certain sociology-psychological issues from slavery still remains intertwined in our culture. The Gabby thing had me baffled we are forever having issues with our indigenous trait for hair.
