true, I agree nene

She's right though. White folks been acting a fool on TV and in real life forever, but when black people do it, they are some how a representation of all black people

Anonymous said...

I agree..white ppl can see that mess and know it doesen't reflect on all of them. i.e Mob Wives, Bad Girl Club, all of the other Housewives franchises, etc

Anonymous said...

I agree with the obvious but it's time to stop pointing fingers and making excuses. That will get us no where.

The black race can't always say " well they do it to" because "they" do a whole lot of other things ( positive images) when blacks have the worst reps ever.

I can't believe people will fight and make excuses to act like coons before they will fight to better themselves smh !

White people know that some chicks from Jersey don't "represent" them because they are a small piece of the pie, but they can't see that with black people since we are in smaller numbers. Somebody please take NeNe to an intro anthropology class.

Well Nene, Black represent 15% of the population but 75% of the Reality shows that come one. All of which reflect Black Women, Black Men & Our Culture (whatever that is) in a Hyper Negative Light. Too much fighting & too much non-sense
and void of positive messages, actions & stories. If you feel it’s worth poisoning many children with this product for a few gold coins and justifying it just cause Cacs have 2 or 3 shows on too….be my guest

Anonymous said...

The reference to hood and ghetto is meant to bring our people out of limited behavior. If Nene needs a reminder of our struggle to gain and surpass equality she should visit the MLK Center and thank our past leaders for her current position in media. Black people have struggled so long and hard in the entertainment world and for one Nene to gain such a powerful position in media wouldnt you think that she would bring a more uplifting representation rather than call someone a pure bitch on screen? It was less than 40a years ago when little black girls in Georgia were being taken from their families and jailed with no bathroom faculties in Georgia and Black people in general were being hosed and lynched for standing up for equality. Thats all im sayin. My opinion. Clearly those white women aredats trash and uneducated. The example ofof thenetwork modern Black person shouldin be reflecteda better infor all aspectsto of media. Maybe Nene willto never understand.-- BK in Charlotte

Of course there are "double standards" in reality shows in relation to the "Black" shows and the "White" shows. My thing is, who is NeNe to try and comfront this issue, with her blonde mane, first of all. Second of all, Whites and other non-Blacks can afford to have a few derogatory reality shows, because in the end, their power and wealth balances their shows out. What do we have to fall back on? Nothing. We can't afford to keep signing up for these shows, depicting us as hyper-sexual and uneducated modern day bucks, coons, toms, mulattoes and mammies. Nor can we afford to continuously tune in, but alas, we do, and as long as there's a script of coonery, a cast for coonery and an audience willing to watch the coonery, there will always be coonery. We get so worked up and "revolutionary" when these "double standard" issues arise, but we only act as "armchair activists" and "blog Black panthers". If we really want to see a change or at least attempt to start a change, STOP watching these reality shows that perpetuate stereotypes about Blacks. Start a petition. Write VH1 and Bravo. Until, nothing will change.

Anonymous said...

If NeNe feels so strongly about this issue, she should just quit. This show just perpetuates stereotypes which is what the brass at Bravo and the media thrive on. She is so focused on getting put on to even realize that.

*gives Ms. Lee a standing ovation*

Although, I agree WITH THE FACT that blacks (esp. black females) have less of a spectrum of characteristics displayed by the powers that offset the negative ones...I don't think that's the point she's trying to make.

You know, good and well, people plain judge black women differently REGARDLESS of whatever examples of "good/normal" black females are put on the forefront because that’s (BEEN) the plan.

It's nonsensical and "copout-ish" enough for non-blacks to be tardish enough to think it makes sense to judge ANY sort of culture based off of the media but a lot of black people who, if they haven't suffered brain damage or aren't self haters, probably trying to distance themselves or earn brownie point with other races or other coons like them, should know better about their very. own. race.

Yes, blacks do not have realistic representations of their race unlike ALL other cultures but it doesn't excuse the fact that WE ALL KNOW that people are ALWAYS looking for an excuse to hate on black women by using asinine excuses to support their haterism.

Please stop being willfully ignorant.

NeeNee perpetuates the stereotypes, and now she's only trying to spread it around. Stop being the disease NeeNee, and just maybe the disease will stop spreading.

Anonymous said...

I get so tired of seeing this debate every damn where...first off @rnbthug blacks do NOT represent 75% of the reality shows out today...BRAVO is the prime example...only one black cast (rhoa) with about a million other all white ones...

And I don't Nene was saying this as to make an excuse (white people act a fool so we should to) but more as to shut people up about this whole "representing the black culture" thing...people are going to act like fools for money regardless of race so stop pointing the finger at the black shows like they are the cause of the downfall...if u dont like the shows, don't watch it period

The positive images on the Cosby show didnt represent me, and the negative images on LOVE AND HIP HOP don't represent me...I represent me

Anonymous said...

Nene needs to understand that while she is getting her money from the jews, many stereotypes and assumptions about bw are being enforced with her show.

Unfortunately black people on a worldwide scale, are lumped together. You see one black person doing something then it is automatically assumed that we all do it.

AA sitcoms/movies/reality shows etc are very popular both in the states and internationally.
Unfortunately when your black you are either a backward dumb african, a loud hyper sexual Caribbean or a ghetto thuggish aa.

It is so annoying going to work and having a white person ask me why I don't act like the likes of Nene. Why I wear my natural fro instead of a blonde mane like beyonce or Nene because hey I'm black so I should be like them by default.

So stop using the excuse of "well they do it to" to justify your coon mentality. At the end of the day Nene is like an animal in a cage go buck wild and all the folks come to zoo to point and laugh. Harsh but the truth.

@Sugar82, Yes, Black women are critiqued, viewed, looked at, judged, talked about, slandered and analyzed much differently than "other" races of women, but when do we, as BLACK WOMEN, come to a conscious understanding to STOP putting ourselves, our image, our culture, our creed and our history out on a dysfunctional platter for the world to see? I hear you and I feel you, but NeNe and any other Black woman feeling the "double standards" of reality tv shows need to address the primary issue which, consequently, starts with them. These Black women willingly and voluntarily sign up for these shows in hopes of a few stacks in the bank and a pair of Louboutins, knowing that behind all of the fake glitz and glamour, they're further tainting and exploiting themselves for a dollar and a dysfunctional dream. I've already explained why Whites and other non-Blacks seemingly get away with having a few derogatory shows: They have something to fall back on, however, we, as Black Americans, do not. Media outlets seek women like NeNe to execute their plans of institutional racism. If NeNe is "so rich", she should use her coins to buy some clues to show her that she's being used.

We can sit here all day and say that "NeNe doesnt represent me", "Black ratchet reality shows dont represent me", but they honestly do whether you like it or not. What positive portrayals do we have on TV as a collective Black race? NONE. The world sees us through what we participate in and make popular. I went to London, Tokyo and Cairo and majority of the locals said "Black people in America = rappers and ladies fighting on tv. Not good."

Anonymous said...

All the women on all those housewive shows are trashy as fuck, and everyone who watches them knows it! That's why we watch, to watch the new rich make asses of themselves, Nene included.

Anonymous said...

@12:09 my point is even if we DID have positive portrayals do you REALLY think that negative black stereotypes are just going to disappear?

Anonymous said...

NeNe, bitch, first of fucking all, what do you mean "I feel like different cultures get different passes"? A "culure" is: The arts and other manifestations of human intellectual achievement regarded collectively. Did you mean others "RACES" of people? Of course you did, but you're too weak, threatened and bamboozled to say it. You're funny, with that fake blonde hair too.

Anonymous said...

12:26, Negative Black stereotypes will never disappear simply because we've embraced them as the norm. To me, World Star Hip Hop has totally cancelled out the Civil Rights Movement and the Black Power Movement. Our people have been conditioned, for years, to neglect EVERYTHING about Africa, from our looks to our native language.

Sugar82 said...

I agree with you Ms. Lee as far as "these fools willingly sign up for this crap and perpetuate the stereotype” but, to me, that doesn't change the fact that even if they didn't sign up for it, people would STILL…,until the end of time, find some sort of way the sh!t on black women…they always have.
You don’t hear the gay community going “Well some of y’all DO act like ‘f@gs and turn folks off’” in unison like how us blacks were trained to do and take the blame for being treated like doormats (lol, yet incessantly attempted to be emulated).
That's like some clown saying, "Well, I can say the N-word because I heard ‘your people’ saying it in a song/movie/TV” Um, what that got to do with me as a person and why you so eager to use that word, of course??? I can't control a coon?

Even if “Sp!c, Towelhead, Wop/Dago, K*ke” were used like the N-Word- I sure as hell wouldn’t be breaking my back (at the obvious risk of it being determined as “racist”, BTW) to use them…unless I wanted to use them in the FIRST place, that is. Or like saying, "Well, she dresses like a sl*t so she deserved to get sh!tted on raped" or you stay in an abusive relationship “so why wouldn't they treat you like a dog?...”

...Um, no- she/they may need to respect themselves more and not be so thirsty but the rapist's actions ARE STILL THEIR ACTIONS and an abuser's actions ARE STILL THEIR ACTIONS just like a bigot’s actions ARE STILL THEIR ACTIONS regardless of who made it that much easier - someone being weak/pathetic does NOT negate a shitty person's words or actions.

Yes, people need to represent better or fall back but that will never be the case beacuse they world is filled with unscrupulous clowns looking to get paid/celebrity but if you're dumb and willfully ignorant enough to go off of a handful of clowns on TV, well, then that's your brain deficiency.

Complete and utter trash like Lil Wayne does not negate the complete and utter trash that thinks- "Well, according to this coon, his songs and antics- this MUST be what all Negroids are about.” No BOTH need to be taken out back for their OWN stupidity- not one cancelling one out for “needing to know and do better” while the other is left with little no accountability for their willful ignorance and hate.

I feel like we agree with each other but, IMO, the other side of the spectrum is being dismissed (if you will) because of weaklings on the other side.

Sugar82 said...

@ 12:29PM- My point, exactly. People are gonna think and act toward black people the way the WANT to, regardless, of how "we represent ourselves", c’mon now- we’ve seen this over centuries. Although a person acting like a stereotypical clown doesn't help the situation, they aren't responsible for another person's predisposition. Does a clown like that have a leg to stand on? No, but it doesn't refute their actual point on how society has been working for us.

Y'all can stay naive and compliant with the others if you want but I don't subscribe to the notion that "If I'm abused, it's ALL my fault!!!". That’s that brainwashing sh!t they want us to harp on. The Massa Plan.

Anonymous said...

@12:39 I get what you're saying and TOTALLY agree! if a white (or non-black) person is willing to judge a WHOLE RACE of people based off a couple of fools on soome reality shows, what does that say about their character? and if they are that ignorant, why do you even care about their opinion?

Ms. Lee said...

@Sugar28, So basically you're saying that whether or not Black men and women perpetuate stereotypes about themselves in film, television, literature and music, there will ALWAYS be negative assumptions, categories and classifications of Blacks? I think what you're not understanding is that when we DO these "tom", "coon", "mammy", "mulatto" and "buck" roles, we're telling our people and the world that it's OK to further exemplify these caricatures. Why add fuel to the fire?

Sugar82 said...

@ 12:27PM- people consider the gay community to be a culture so she may have been referring to how people get all up in arms whenever anything is supposedly said sideways toward them or even white Jews (because big nose, Jew fro and/orAnti-Semites coming at you or not, you’re still basically “white”)...so, your point???

Anonymous said...

@Sugar28: Umm, you really make no sense. You're basically saying that it's ok for Blacks to make asses out of themselves because the world already has preconceived notions about us anyway. You must like NeNe. #Ignorance

Anonymous said...

@1:02 not that its okay, but that it doesn't matter whether they make a fool or not

Anonymous said...

@Ms. Lee people are not perfect so there is always going to be someone adding "fuel to the fire"...whether they are "cooning" for money on tv, or just being stupid in real life...you can't expect all the black people in the world to "modify" their personalities in the hopes of "the almighty whitey" might like them...it will never happen

Sugar82 said...

@ Ms. Lee 12:57PM- Well, yes. That is what I'm saying. Like you said, acting like a coon doesn't help anything but if there weren't black desperados out there, they sure as sh!t would still find yet another way to perpetuate us in whatever negative light they want.
C'mon- why do you think that black female representations consist of basically nothing more than Mammy, Sapphire or if she if actually attractive she has some sort of unsavory quality types...yet all other races of women get to be multidimensional...and even if they are unsavory in some way, she's still somehow seen as "worth the fight" to her man???

(As I've noted plenty of times before) Why do you think in just about every other commercial, TV show or movie there's some black guy paired up with a non-black woman looking as happy as a pig in shit accepting her even in all of her “wacky” ways???

You think that's a coincidence??? There’s ALWAYS gonna be thirsty money grubbers out there in EVERY race and culture- no one can help that, that’s a personality thing (Here Comes Honey Boo Boo, anyone???) but the fact still remains that the powers that be will ALWAYS find some way to shine the spotlight on the atrocious ones in the black race, no matter HOW we try to confine it, much akin to the example (that others mentioned) of news reporter finding the most inarticulate, stereotypical black folks to interview at Any. Given. Chance.

That’s their agenda, plain and simple, and though, yes, we CAN “do better” THEY are the media gatekeepers and will cut and splice ANYTHING together to try and prove their point: i.e. black women supposedly having every disease known to man and ALL the fatherless families in the world…yet at the same time, no one even wants to touch us??? Yet, on the other hand, white, Latin, Asian women as perpetuated as “wild, fun, BI, and sexually free and desirable” yet they remain as pure as the driven snow…even though I see cold sores on them every other day like no one’s business??? Yeah…receipts, please.

I just think that we're too content and complacent as a collective group of people. We have internalized dysfunction as normalcy. Though there will always and seemingly be some negative notion about Blacks, that still is no excuse to voluntarily fall into the bojanglin' circuit of coonery. If we knew better, we'd demand better and do better.

Robert the Magnificent said...

Why can't we act the way we want without non Blacks thinking that our entire race is the same? Why do we always feel the need to tell each other "how to act"? And then we mention Dr. King. As if that makes it okay. He fought for racial equality. Isn't one of the portents of that equality the freedom to be yourself? More importantly, why are Black women always cast in such a negative light? If you think these producers don't do that intentionally, you're nuts. Stop commenting on how Black people should be "acting", other races in America act how they please with no real ill effects. Blacks should be able to do the same.

Ms. Lee said...

2:17, Clearly you don't understand the racial dynamics in America and how biased they are. Sure, we can do what everyone else does, but it's going to cost us more, simply because we couldn't afford to do those things in the first place.

Black women are ghetto and uncouth make no mistake about it. There is nothing graceful about black women. There are very few examples of black women that evade these realities but they are few and far in between. Black women are very volatile and unattractive. And FYI it's many black women that are this way and that is why the entire black race is perceived this way, not everyone follows reality tv (including myself) and opinions are heavily formulated by what we encounter on a daily basis.

The numbers don't lie. And this unnecessary jealousy and racism towards white women is so passe.

"4 out of 5 black women are SERIOUSLY OVERWEIGHT"

Pathetic much?

Once again, my lifestyle is snobby my remarks ARE NOT. A simple fact check will bode you well.

Ms. Lee said...

@Robert, I'm giving a conscious commentary because I work in a university setting and I encounter ALL walks of life on a daily basis and I see how we, as a collective group, rank in the academic sector, for example. If I bring awareness to what's wrong ONLINE and OFFLINE, maybe some of us will get the hint and redirect our social and cultural paths? And it's not about conforming to White people; it's about taking accountability and responsibility for the things that WE have accepted and perpetuated among ourselves and in our community. Do you understand this? I hope so. Peace.

@Proverbial Snob,
You may be eccentric and a host of other things, but that "Obese" article may be on to something. Black women have this delusion that they MUST be "thick" (which they mistake "thick" for borderline "fat") with a "fat ass". If you HAVE to be thick with a fat ass to attract a Black man, that's pretty ridiculous. Oh but wait, if 80% of Black women are single, who are they trying to be thick and have a fat ass for? They're ridiculous.

The police even told me that it was not safe to be around black people and they gave me a ride home after arresting the culprits. Black people are a DISGRACE! phase 1. Put out nothing but negative imagery of black males in TV and Movies

phase 2. Keep pushing the lie that white women are taking all of the "good" black men

phase 3. Keep repeating racist news stories about there being "no good black men left"

phase 4. Put out nothing but negative imagery of black females

Steps 2 and 3 serve to put enmity between black men and black women who do not even personally know each other.

Step 4 is the knockout punch. With black men and black women swimming in a sea of lies, they are easily marginalized.

Proverbial Slob is the dumbest white person on this site, going onto a black gossip blog to "teach" the blacks. You can't get more stupid than that.

@4:45
stop cosigning yourself. That was a dumb comment.

Anyway, no other race is submitted to collective punishment so blacks shouldn't accept it either.
Pick your fights with the specific blacks who have the problems.

Mention child molestation arrests and kiddie porn stings and white men get quieter than a K. Michelle concert. You can hear a pin drop.
When will white men apologize for all of those crimes, collectively? Never? Oh, so I won't feel guilty for another black's crime.

American Blacks have been in generational denial for years. They can never astutely focus on THEIR OWN issues and how they can empower themselves and their community. Instead, they divert attention away from their issues, while concentrating on what a White man or Asian woman is doing, for example. If I say something like, "Some Blacks should really stop sagging their pants and wearing weaves", I'll get a response from a Black person that says, "...But White people sag and wear weaves too." First of all, was I talking about Whites? No. Second, what does the actions of a White person have to do with the actions of a Black person? Right.
Also, just because there are people on this post speaking some obvious truths about Blacks does NOT mean those persons are "trolls". Calling people "trolls" is just another way in which Blacks divert attention from their issues. Again, GENERATIONAL DENIAL AND REFUSAL OF ACCOUNTABILITY AND RESPONSIBILITY.

Proverbial Snob, looks can be deceiving. And you speak of respect due to you, yet you give none. I'm thinking the 'entitled' part of my previous comment rings true. Had you not posted such venom, I can assure you that you would've received more respect. One of the best schools on the West Coast? Stanford? Pepperdine? You drew your conclusion about my dealings with the law from my looks? You're one of many.

@10:47 Blacks are 12.7% of the population, U.S. not 15%. Take a demography class, dear.

the minute black people realize that we are damned if we do and damned if we don't, is the minute things will change. screw other races and what they think. let us love each other instead, focus on each other, forget the "nigger lovers" cause evidently you can't hate "niggers" that much if you're on this site trolling daily.

"What does the Bible say about racism, prejudice, and discrimination?"

The first thing to understand in this discussion is that there is only one race—the human race. Caucasians, Africans, Asians, Indians, Arabs, and Jews are not different races. Rather, they are different ethnicities of the human race.

All human beings have the same physical characteristics (with minor variations, of course). More importantly, all human beings are created in the image and likeness of God (Genesis 1:26-27). God loved the world so much that He sent Jesus to lay down His life for us (John 3:16). The “world” obviously includes all ethnic groups.

God does not show partiality or favoritism (Deuteronomy 10:17; Acts 10:34; Romans 2:11; Ephesians 6:9), and neither should we. James 2:4 describes those who discriminate as “judges with evil thoughts.” Instead, we are to love our neighbors as ourselves (James 2:8). In the Old Testament, God divided humanity into two “racial” groups: Jews and Gentiles. God’s intent was for the Jews to be a kingdom of priests, ministering to the Gentile nations.

Instead, for the most part, the Jews became proud of their status and despised the Gentiles. Jesus Christ put an end to this, destroying the dividing wall of hostility (Ephesians 2:14). All forms of racism, prejudice, and discrimination are affronts to the work of Christ on the cross.

Jesus commands us to love one another as He loves us (John 13:34). If God is impartial and loves us with impartiality, then we need to love others with that same high standard. Jesus teaches in Matthew 25 that whatever we do to the least of His brothers, we do to Him. If we treat a person with contempt, we are mistreating a person created in God’s image; we are hurting somebody whom God loves and for whom Jesus died.

Racism, in varying forms and to various degrees, has been a plague on humanity for thousands of years. Brothers and sisters of all ethnicities, this should not be. Victims of racism, prejudice, and discrimination need to forgive.

Ephesians 4:32 declares, “Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” Racists may not deserve your forgiveness, but we deserved God’s forgiveness far less. Those who practice racism, prejudice, and discrimination need to repent. “Present yourselves to God as being alive from the dead, and your members as instruments of righteousness to God” (Romans 6:13). May Galatians 3:28 be completely realized, “There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus.”

@4:39 I guess you missed the Harlem Renaissance era. Blacks have done better and can do anything given the proper motivation and family up-bringing. Drugs & welfare have pretty much ruined a majority of blacks desire to succeed.

You just sound like a hater with no historical reference or positive intention.

@5:10 It's not really YOU persay it's the fact that you are a black male that one would presume that. You shouldn't take it personally, I have been mistaken for an escort/prostitute on 3 separate occasions and although I was offended I did not attack the accusers. I respect everyone. It is a pity that people claim this site is only for blacks or tmz is only for whites when these sites are for everyone, and there is nothing worst when there is forum where EVERYONE AGREES and there are a bunch followers who give into popular opinion instead of straight facts.

Farewell my chocolate nimbles.

@5:31pm
you are correct. It is just like those pastors and politicians who spend so much time obsessing over homosexuals, only to be caught with their pants around their ankles with a rentboy.

Pro-Hoe-Venereal Blob must have a "negro problem" something terrible to spend this much time on a site with the blacks. This election has got the racists running out of the closet!

@ Robert the Magnificent: you waste your intelligence when you respond to ignorance. As a behavior analyst I know to ignore "junk" behavior. Don't feed foolishness and it will eventually starve itself and die. I just scroll past certain posts... Stay strong My Brother.

Jersey Shore was the whole reason why Italian organizations wanted to cancel the show because they were depicting Italians as a negative stereotype. Southern Italians (darker complexions who have moor blood) were the ones that migrated here to America (before the white N.Italians) and had Mafia ties to Southern Italy. They committed crimes and acted as fools. They were the original black stallions.

Italians are the the only ethnic group left that white people can be openly racist to or about (within their branch). Calling oneself a G***O is the most disrespectful thing you can call someone of Italian heritage, especially an older Italian, who will kick the living shit out of you if you call them that name, believe me.

Nene should really be quiet and stop complaining because she's on a network show that is totally racist and guess what she plays? A sassy housekeeper.
