Aww I hope she wins!!

Me too I want to see this

now this is what you call an accomplishment, not donating campaign money and having payola, favor for a favor, singing at the inauguration, and calling it hard work,or talent like you didn't have to write checks to keep your name in the news.

shout out to all the black men and women artists who actually work hard in their craft but get no shine due to the payola establishment

congrats to this beautiful girl.

I want her to win but what happened to Shirley Temple? AND she is too young for such a big award, ever head of too much too soon? Just ask Macauly Culkin.

Cute kid. Congrats to her.

Wow! This is great! This little woman was soooo good in the movie, she stole the show. It is an independent film, but its concept is better than anything Hollywood Studios. I'm going to watch it again.

Congrats QW!

that's wonderful. she's a beautiful and little girl. i love positive stories about the little ones. definitely want to see this movie!

She should win. She was amazing, both on screen and doing the movie's narrative. She drives the film at a very lovely pace and I for one sat amazed when it was over. I couldn't stop thinking about her, and the skills.

This is absolutely amazing. Congrats on the nomination Quvenzhané Wallis. I hope you take home the the solid gold statue.

Couldnt agree more, a very refreshing post and a bright young actress with hopefully a promising career with longevity. I hope Hollywood has the fortitude to give her the damn Oscar and not say "she is young she will have more chances." If Shirley Temple could get an Oscar then this young girl oughto be seriously considered as well. I hope her nomination was based on pure merit and not because it was a feel good story with her having no chance at actually winning.

On another note I saw Django and it was shit and an homage only to Tarantino's colossal ego, ethnic envy, and neurosis. I claim no direct lineage to Kunta Kinte, but as a black man in America I felt the movie has no redemming value. Christoph Waltz I felt did well enough to be nominated for a SAG Award (at the most) but shouldnt have been given the Oscar nod. While Im not really pissed Jamie didnt get the nod, I think Christoph did no more than Jamie to be considered. So either nominate them both or neither. Frankly I dont think there was one thing about Django that shoulve been nominated for an Oscar, not even sound editing.

talent is talent.

no person is too young to have their talent recognized and celebrated.

but she does need to be protected from the wolves, and too much limelight, that's for sure.

@Proverbial,

I like you and everything, don't what the FUCK? Don't start your shit by incorporating White child actors against this little brown-sugar-cinnamon cutie. Fuck out of here.

Congratulations to her!

I've never heard of this film, but that little girl is too adorable! I wish her much success!

Finally a post that doesn't reek of the Chris/Rihanna / Kapnkrunch situation.

@ Nicole

Now I informed you about your poor command of the English language with your extreme use of profanities. It is NOT LADY LIKE nor is it becoming of a Brazilian. I am beginning to doubt your 'heritage'

What does skin color have to do with anything the point of focus is clearly her youthfulness, pay attention to the details.

I am very proud of her and I don't even know this little girl personally. Watch how WHITE AMERICA makes sure that they find some little white kid that is younger to try to beat something great that we have done for next years award show.

oh well, there goes the thread on that stale old derailment...

I've got to go see this film. This little girl is so cute and this preview alone shows me she has acting skills. She is going to be a household name in the years to come. I'm praying that wins this Academy Award. Go Quvenzhané! I'm behind you, sweetie.

Nicole Sent from my iPad said...

Proverbial,

Let me help you out, a bit, shall I? Your initial comment implied that Ms. Wallis is too young for such a nomination (which she isn't, if she's talented, she deserves the Oscar), further leading you to mention Shirley Temple Black and Macaulay Caulkin--two older and White "child stars" who are beyond irrelevant to this topic of Ms. Wallis's amazing nomination. The way I speak has no bearing on my nationality. As I stated, I like you, but your comments, particularly on THIS thread, were uncalled for, BITCH.

Anonymous said...

damn, i want to see this movie. is it to late. i don't remember this.

Anonymous said...

Wow, what an amazing accomplishment at such a young age. Very proud of her. This is a good start to a very successful career.

Anonymous said...

FYI-Shirley Temple never WON an Oscar-she was given an honorary one in 1934. She was six years old.

Anonymous said...

This is wonderful considering Hollywood never honor or award young black actors. They love to hype the young white girls put them in 5 movies in 1 year and invite them to all the award ceremonies. its about time they do it for children of color. There is nothing wrong with rewarding children, it helps with thier self esteem and encourages them to be better at thier skills and talents. Congrats!

Anonymous said...

@11:48....and it was ALMOST a post where no one mentioned chris brown/rihanna/karrueche....

Anonymous said...

12:59 there they go...white people always want to say but we did this and we did that. Sit the hell down. Shirley Temple might have gotten whatever, but back then movies only featured whites so that is no comparison.

Anonymous said...

the movie was sensational, and Quvenzhané was indeed exceptional. to those that expressed interest in seeing it, if you're not a regular patron of the independent film scene, this movie may be a tough one for you. very slow moving, however thought-provoking. the whole cast deserves kudos great movie and superb acting from this little girl.

Nicole,
You've pissed me off a lot with your posts and your responses to other posters because of your overuse of the 'B' word and other profanities that spew out of your mouth; HOWEVER, I give you a well deserved standing ovation, round of applause for the 'B' word in THIS case.
I am seriously laughing out loud right now.
