Alicia Keys Sings the Star Spangled Banner

A couple of weeks ago Alicia Keys announced she was creating a new version of the National Anthem to sing at the Superbowl [click here if you missed that].

She must have chickened out...

Last night Alicia Keys sang the Star Spangled Banner before the start of the Superbowl and aside from slowing it down a little bit and adding few runs here and there, she largely stuck to the original song and melody.

Alicia Key's National Anthem was BEAUTIFUL but that BEYONCE had not only lip sync at President Obama's Inauguration but that crazy woman LIP SYNC in 2009 at the OSCARS and ran and hid!

The worst rendition EVER i mean EVER!!!!!!
This made me cringe OMG!!!

Can no other singer get any type of shine without Beyonce being bought into the conversation...This is about Alicia Keyes and her lackluster rendition of the National Anthem not Beyonce..

She did the job, and that is all that matters. No glitz or glam, just a lady and her piano. Classic.

its funny how in the main stream media and everywhere on the planet people think it was beautiful and she did a great job but RWS will have some haters for you no matter what you do.
It was beautiful and i know i cant sing for shit

slow and awful!

She did good IMO! She took her time so she wouldn't get BEYONCE'd LOL

Nobody wants to hear the National Anthem jazzed up or whomever's rendition of it. It's the National Anthem and should be sung like it was originally intended. What other country changes their national song depending on who's singing it? Makes no fucking sense, some of the ignant shit USA allows and I'm an American.

First watch i thought it was good, second watch I thought she had a few questionable notes/choices. she reminded me of the man who sings Toy Story songs, (randy newman)

But consider this, she sang live while playing piano and kept a constant tempo, she was in a huge dome and she was in front of thousands there, plus millions watching. So i say she did a great job, better than many could dream to do... and i'm not a fan of hers.

Very bland and boring.
I miss you, Whitney!

I cringed when she first started singing and turned the channel... A singer she is not... Jhud, on the other hand brought tears to my eyes with her song. She just has more depth.

Snitch, dont you know you need PERMISSION to post videos from other sources, including this one from the damn NFL!!!!! You go fuc around and get sued!

Anonymous said...

Smart! If she saw clips from Kat De Luna's rendition (and the audience booed her ass afterward), she knew not to mess around with the anthem. Her rendition was *yawns*, excuse me, her rendition was *yawns again* zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

She wasn't better than Beyonce.

How about you show us Francis Scott Key's sheet music so we can know how it's suppose to be sung.

I thought she sung it sweet and soulful, I liked it. Seemed like she was singing just to support the message of the song and not to be a selfish celeb and get attention for herself. She sung it humbly.

Is Alicia still singing? That's the way it felt. Never forget the Marvin Gaye version. Real artistry, not this phony manufactured crap, I.e. Beyawnce.

This bitch sound like a dyke

Alicia Keys can't sing anymore. She's always OFF key.

Anonymous said...

Of course alicia had to open for Beyonce and not the other way around.

Bey is King.

I'll never be a fan of Keys, but I aint mad at her. I respect anybody that can play a song on piano, sing to it, and do it in front of nearly 75,000 silenced and listening to every note.

Think of how much more actual skill and artistry that requires than does being on stage with no instrument to play, noisy crowd - even a bunch of stand-ins allowed to crowd around the stage and all but drown the mic out, no real requirement to sing because the backup track gotcho ass..... all you gotta do is remember those choreographed dance steps, belt out a few notes, and yell out "c'mon New Orleans!" once in a while.

That's the diff between an artist and a stage performer.

It's all on the artist, make or break - nothing there to back you - if you hit the wrong key or fuck up the wrong not, it's on you - no do-overs.

The stage performer can fuck up the song, stop singing altogether, have a titty pop out, etc.. It's a major production and it's on the team behind you to catch you when shit goes wrong.

Furthermore, the notion that the anthem should be sang one way is just a matter of opinion. I feel like it's an ignorant stance because songs written by all sorts of people are covered and draped in the style that the artist singing it chooses.

Marvin Gaye did it his own way at the NBA all-star game back in 83 and it's one of the most memorable renditions of the song on record. The song doesn't change just because someone sings it with their own touch. You wanna hear somebody fuck it all up, youtube Carl Lewis singing it - lmao.

I actually thought it was PERFECT & I dont even like her voice.

It was sincere like Kid MJ

She had 1 run that I really liked at :54

Way better than Xtinas version.

Thank you, Bee Gee, well said.

Even though Alicia can't really sing, she actually did a good job here. She put her heart into it, and after that first off-key note, I stopped cringing, and was actually proud of the way she finished.

This is what true artists do. Singers SING, and musicians PLAY THEIR INSTRUMENTS.

The half-time show was just 15 minutes of stripping and shouting... I've seen more nuance in a burlesque show.

It was like Beyonce the SexBot had a virus in her computer chip and started going haywire, flipping her wig and grinding her crotch on the stage.

Whitney rest in piece you are truly missed. there are many many copies but they will NEVER be you!!!

Keys showed much respect and played the Blues version.
Gotta give it to her cause that is why Isaac called her Keys.
Beautiful, welcome back.
