Back in October Michael Winans, a member of the Gospel singing family, pleaded guilty to defrauding church goers out of millions of dollars in a ponzi scheme [click here if you missed that].
Welp, it's time for Micheal to pay the piper...
Yesterday Michael Winans was sentenced to 13 years and 9 months in prison for using church connections to sell phoney Saudi oil well bonds.
During his sentencing Michael threw himself on the mercy of the court telling the judge,
“I did make mistakes.”
"I caused financial and emotional damage. For that I repent. But there was no malicious intent on my part…I wanted people to have a good life.”Victims of Michael's scheme told the court they trusted him because of his family name and because he solicited investors during church services.
Micheal has been ordered to pay his victims $4.8 million in restitution.

Another damn wolf in sheep's clothing. I'm so happy God is cleaning house and exposing all these pimp preachers, false prophets, fake Christians and people who capitalize on the niave and trusting church members like this idiot.
The Winans have all kinds of skeletons in their closet from fraud to homosexuality. This is why I put my trust in God and not in man.
An observation that I have is that a lotta people seem to base the strength of their faith and personal relationship with God on how much they like their Pastor and how good the music program at the church is. To the point that they'll be mad as a muthafucka if the pastor isn't preaching that day or if Sista Florence aint tingling their skin with a bomb ass solo like she does on most Sundays.
In the end, it seems that people are more prone to follow and pledge allegiance to a man that they can see, touch, and hear the power of word from, than they are to truly love and have faith in what they claim to believe in.
I guess that's the daily struggle that every believer is faced with, but that's also why I don't think I can buy any of it. I have faith in myself and in the people that love me unconditionally, and I can't truly deny them or myself in favor of something that has never made itself real to me just because a book written by men says I should do so.
And trifling ass people like these Winan muthafuckas just strengthen my faith in those things that are most real to me. If the story of the bible is real then I guess I'll have to be judged on the fact that I simply did not believe it enough to allow it to be a guide for my life in my time here.
Not everybody in the Winans is saved. Smdh.

Many false prophets, pastors and teachers have arisen in the body of Christ; people make money and steal in the name of the Lord. False prophets are foolish prophets, they make fools of themselves. @BeeGee I had no idea you were an atheist...interesting. But everything you said is true. People place too much "blind" faith in a system of dogmatic and arbitrary scripture instead of finding out about the power of SELF. I have never been a neophyte, but I did enjoy church services when I was a child- and then I grew up when the real world kicked in. Some people remain in the blind faith state until the day they die and all of their financial and spiritual investments go to humans who claim to be able to lead them to holy waters...I call BS on that. I believe in God. Just not the God that the church goers worship on the podium every Sunday.

I'm not an atheist at all, but 'agnostic' would probably describe my stance best.
I'm co-signing BeeGee. I'm of the ilk that believes that God is not outside of you, but within you. During time of prayer, instead of asking or begging for things, if that time were used for listening, there would be a world of change experienced. Among many things, you would hear guidance of what is the best thing to do. You would hear and know confirmation, and comfort.
The black church was needed once upon a time... It helped to inform, gather and galvinize a group of people that had no other vehicle or structure to work within without being imprisoned or lynched.
The black church, in this day and age, keeps us immature in our spirituality. It keeps us tethered to a system that allows us to be forever pimped by others. It's a system that vilifies people for critical thinking.
It's sad that many black folks haven't taken a serious look at what they truly believe in. I guess its easier to allow others to tell you what to do and what to embrace. Just know that there are consequences for doing that.... And that leadership? Well, you just might find your leader leading you into the swamps!

That stance is probably the best seeing that we are imperfect, corrupt human beings and we know what we're capable of.
