Oprah Sued for Discrimination


Oprah Winfrey is being sued for discrimination by an employee who claims she was fired after she became pregnant...

Carolyn Hommel was hired as senior director of scheduling and acquisitions at Oprah's OWN Network in 2010.

Now Carolyn is suing Oprah for unnamed damages claiming she was slowly phased out and eventually fired one month after returning from medical leave.

Carolyn believes her dismissal was a direct result of her becoming pregnant.

Well if she felt she was wronged I'm glad she is making a stand for herself and for real I'm not surprised by her allegations Oprah been fake for years to me and it reeks of her!

If they didn't tell her that they were firing her because she had a baby she don't have a chance. I believe they didn't fire her because of her pregnancy but because of the time she missed. 6 weeks is a long time they found how to make it work without her. Trust me if you can be out of work for more than a week and they still making it they never really needed you.

Most people are replaceable at their job. Businesses don't just shut down, people figure out how to move on. Look at Apple now that Steve Jobs, the founder and CEO, is gone. The company is still flourishing.

We have all heard the Oprah stories about how she has all of her employees from the gum scraper's to the president of the network to sign a confidentiality agreement that they are never to speak about what goes on with Oprah. Do you really think that she would be dumb enough to slip up by firing someone because they are pregnant and for that person to be able to prove that? I think not, Oprah is to smart for that. Now did she fire the women because she was pregnant...it's a great possibility, but trust and believe that Oprah would never get caught letting that come out.

Ofrah had to $ettled outta court over those sex abuse claims at her Leadership school.

She $ettled again with flight attendent who said Ofrah made racial remarks about white folk.Ofrah couldn't let that go to child.

2:38 Oprah settled but she was not involved someone at her school was. Yes she settled and she should have but not because it was her fault, it was the fault of her employee. I hadn't heard about the flight attendant, but if she settled it was because this person must have had some type of proof, video, recording, etc. But I still feel that Oprah won't and wouldn't go down without a fight.

Maternity Leave in most states are 8 weeks so 6 weeks the lady came back early imo

It's only smart to sue someone with money otherwise, what’s the point. Oprah is a brand that makes her a target so she will always be sued for lots and lots of Nothings. Courts do not dole out millions and millions just because you bring a suit and even if she won (no way in hell), she would still need another job because there are formulas that decide the extent of damages owed. Meanwhile back at Big O's ranch there is a law dept. that will re-write the constitution if they had to, in order to bring the Big "O" a win. No joke! Funny how so many get on here, speak of things as if it is the gospel, and do not even have the slightest CLUE...Good Bye!

There is no loyalty to diligent employees from these big corporations, yet they expect your allegiance at all times in return.

Maybe there is no loyalty for you because you are neither a valued employee nor a diligent worker. For the sentiments you’re presenting here, I would suggest you get your resume to the best Head Hunter in town ASAP! You might be in store a life altering experience at any time. If this lady was out on FMLA it was an unpaid leave (up to 12 weeks) with the exception of any vacation, sick or personal time she may have chosen to use. Since the article provides very little detail, it's hard to tell if she was a victim of discrimination or not.

I went on a family medical leave of absence in 1993. I informed my supervisor 2 months, in advance when i was leaving and that i was going to use the full 12 weeks. I went on leave the beginning of October. My supervisor called me "Several times pressing me", to come back to work. I explained to her that I intended TO using my full 12 weeks, so I could heal and spend some time with my newborn. A week before Christmas, I recieved a call from my supervisor she asked me, to come in for some type of meeting. When i attended the meeting she fired me, for no just cause. I still had time left on my maternity leave. I was shocked and hurt. After I pulled my self together I hired a (JEWISH ATTORNEY) and sued kaiser, for wrongful termination and discrimination, on a maternity leave of absence. Kaiser Attorney's were afraid, to go before a jury they offered me a settlement that I could not turn down. If Oprah discriminated against this lady, in ANY Way she should be held accountable, just like any other corporation/ employer.

Everything in life happens for a reason. I was working as a Medical Lab Technician, but when I was wrongfully terminated I went back, to school and received a degree in Nursing. I was also able to stay at home with my child. At that particular time I didn't understand the reason, but over the years God revealed a lot of things to me.

New York, NY - Iranian news outlet PressTV is reporting that the grandson of Malcolm X has been detained by the FBI en route to Iran. Malcolm Shabazz, an outspoken activist, was reportedly arrested on Monday while en route to Tehran for a Hollywoodism conference. According to sources, the FBI is refusing to provide any details as it relates to the reason for Shabazz’s arrest or his whereabouts.

PressTV provided additional detail on the conference Shabazz was scheduled to attend:


Tehran hosted the third Hollywoodism International Conference, on the sidelines of the 31st Fajr International Film Festival in the Iranian capital Tehran on Sunday.

Many filmmakers, directors, actors, and movie critics as well as politicians and economists took part in the conference.

Mike Gravel, a former US Senator who attended the conference, condemned Hollywood’s role in imposing imperialistic views on the people of the world.

“Hollywood is just a tool of the American government and European governments to pursue their imperialistic views whether it is in economy…culture…or religion,” Gravel stated.

During a previous interview with Iranian television, Malcolm Shabazz said slavery still exists in America. While speaking out about the murder of Trayvon Martin, Shabazz said, “There are hundreds of Black Americans who are being murdered in the United States every year with impunity. And police officers serve no time,” he said. “They always get off.”
