Quvenzhané Wallis Confirmed for Annie

Back in January when it was announced that Willow Smith was dropping out of Annie, rumors swirled that Academy Award nominated actress, 9 year old Quvenzhane' Wallis, was being considered for the role [click here if you missed that].

The rumors have been confirmed...

Quvenzhane' will star as Annie in the re-telling of the classic tale being produced by Will Smith and Jay Z.

Sony pictures proclaims,
"She is an extraordinary young talent with an amazing range, not only as an actress but as a singer and dancer, and we can't wait for audiences to further discover her."

I would actually go see this remake of Annie. I think she is a better fit for the part than Willow.

Congratulations Quvenzhané! She will make a great Annie. I just hope she doesn't wear... a Red Wig. Lol! Just a little morning humor :-). God Bless ~

Even though I'm happy for the Smiths and all... I get tired of seeing them trying to get in EVERYTHING lol. It's not like y'all are starving for success, now.

She's going to be a beautiful woman when she gets older. I can tell. Good for her in snagging the part, I get sick of seeing these red-haired honey boo boo runner ups getting the part. Diversity makes these classic films more of a worthy watch anyway.

@10:02:
Forget the Smiths! You got it all wrong. It is Jay Camel trying to get in on everything! At least Will knows more about the film/acting business! Camel is where the money is. I am sick of his ugly greedy Donald Trump/ Warren Buffet wannabe ass!

Congratulations and I pray she takes after her co-star and not be dazzled by all that glitters

I've never been a fan of movie remakes. They don't have the same effect and they usually fail. Case in point Sparkle and The Wiz. Will Smith should be a little more innovative. I would love to see one of those young black kids at Morehouse College studying Film break out with an original film like the young white guy who did Beasts of the Southern Wild and cast Q?

She's a cute little girl. But, have any of you seen her interviews? She comes across as "very grown" and "arrogant". I hope she doesn't let Hollyweird go to her head, because she's already acting like a little diva.

Congratulations Q!

Agreed @1:54....she's a little too grown acting for me..

Some folks on RWS are not happy unless they're bashing black women and little black girls. I'm proud of Quvenzhane I wish her nothing but sucess.

on another thread someone mentioned do folks want her to have her head low and singing negro spirituals...it's funny, but hell i think they are right. i just think quvenzhane has been prepared to handle all the mess that will/has come her way. her mother is a teacher, of course she's a bit more "grown" than the average kid. do ya want her shuffling those feet when singing that spiritual. to me there is a difference in how she carries herself and that Willow child. willow on twitter talking smack and posting pictures of her on stripper poles. need to be worried more about her than quvenzhane.

@1:54 PM You missed the previous post on her a few days ago. Some posters, including me, had the same observation and made the same comment as you. Nearly everyone on that thread went ballistic, saying we were bashing this little girl. Not true. I watched several of her interviews and was a little turned off with her grown attitude and flippant remarks. This is NOT taking anything away from her acting ability. She nailed that and will continue to thrive as an actress. She's a very cute little black girl.

When a parent is an educator their children tend to be a little more mature and smarter than their peers. Unfortuantely some black folks who have not been exposed to different things outside of their little "hood bubble" will not get this. Most smart kids act like this until someone breaks their spirit. I know this from personal experience. She is mature beyond her years but this maturity is what will keep her from turning out like all of the other Hollywood starlets who are on a shame spiral right now. It's all nice to see a young Black child that has come from a loving 2 parent by marriage family with parents that have real careers. The urban blogs will have Black folks thinking that you are not normal unless you are a baby momma by baller or that if you are a woman you cannot succeed in life unless some rapper or athlete hand picks you from the strip club. This here is an example of The Real Black American Dream.
