BET Brings Back Comic View

Get ready to laugh [or cry] because BET is bringing back Comic View...

The original Comic View was a proving ground for up and coming Black comedians in the 90s, and after nearly five years off the air, BET is giving Comic View a new lease on life.

The new Comic View is set to air on BET in late 2013.

No host has been chosen.

Today's comedians are wack and all about the money and not the art. Everyone want to blow up, not make ppl laugh.

They need to be airing educational shit. We've laughed and been laughed at enough

I wish they would bring back Video Soul. I would love to see true R&B artist interviews and videos. They got 106 & park for the lame rappers why not a show has for authentic soul singers.

Will Kevin Hart be the host?

HoodRat said...

@12:12 Kevin Hart just joined the group of dress wearing comedians recently on his SNL skit. He played a gay pope. it was humiliating. hes sold his soul just like Steve Harvey, martin lawrence, ricky smiley, eddie murphy and a host of other dress wearing fags. Its the jews who provoke this into the black mans psyche by using our hungry black men as a pawn. of course the money is good so they submit. Read their Talmud, dykes. Jews hate you, you, your cousins, and you too! *points at u bitches*

and that has been your educational post for the day from hoodrat, thank u.

Thanks Hoodrat! I honestly think we should try thinking more and laughing less. So tired of these class clown negroes...

The mailman from 227 and Miss Laura made the show super suck. If the brought it back the would need to bring back the crickets. Its not going to be funny.

I remember watching a show in the 90s called Tony Brown's Journal. Don't remember if it was on BET, but it was a black journalist who talked about black issues in the community, workplace, school, entertainment, etc. Not sure where this guy is now, but BET should consider hosting a Tony Brown type of show.

I liked Ms. Laura; she was CRA-ZY. To me it started to go downhill when they started switching up the hosts and changing the format; I didn't care for that at all. I think that Comic View has ran it's course; there aren't the same caliber of comedians out now that there were back then.

EBT is comedy itself.. Go head with that coon azz network. to Rob Johnson, who sold us out, for a pat on the head by his white master and few silver coins.

I'll watch and give it a try

Comic View was funny when comics were true to their craft and not trying to be something else. This is what they need to bring back, the earthquakes, brucie Bruce, arness J, all the funny ladies, heck all the comics in the late 80's that all they wanted to do was make people laugh without it being at someone else expense.

Tony Brown moved onto bigger and better things, He is on PBS.

Sheryl Underwood
DL Hughly
Gary Owen

Another reason to keep turnin' past the channel.. I even put a code on the muthafugga on every cable box so my kids can't watch that bullshit. Same with vh1. Channel zero

I won't be watching! The black male comedians were so lame, and untalented, all of their stand up routines centered on disparaging Black women!
Dumbass niggas!!

@12:17
I hate agreeing with you but truth is truth. That dress is a required accessory for any new black male actor. soon they will have the black males playing the female roles for all of Hollywood. I was shocked that even Chris Rock did drag.

Comic View worked for that era. there is too much bitterness in black pop culture for CV to work these days. With the anger btwn bw and bm, it is too hard to joke about relationships with people getting sensitive. Black star are too commercial and polarized. they are kind of overexposed or non-relevant.

Damn y'all are some bitter, miserable folks! reading the first 8 comments damn! go pray, smile, think positive. The real Husbands of Hollywood is hilarious and I like the Second Generation Wayans. IT"S 2013 and there are still hardly any minorities on any major shows. Damn things change, I''ll try iand give it a chance and support black/minority comedians, writers, and women.

@6:59
so you support anything as long as there is a black face to front?
We need quality not quantity. Mad TV had a few blacks but Aries Spears and Debra Wilson haven't be right since they left that show. Black stars do ok on dramas and tend to maintain some dignity on those but the comedies are usually a mess of coons and stereotypes. Patrice O'Neal was one of the last of the intelligent black comics. I like to laugh but we need to change it up with some satire and sophisticated humor

white people get Louis C.K., Larry David, Seinfeld,a whole range of not just urban humor

^^^^Patrice O'Neal was one of the last of the intelligent black comics

Is it not a coincidence that Patrice O'Neal is dead? Do you think the powers that be killed him?

Anonymous said...

no 7:23 I CLEARLY stated I'll give it a TRY and I support black/minority comedians, writers and women (meaning all women and all minorities) especially since there was a recent LA Times article about the lack of diversity in Hollywood. Is reading comprehension a lost art?

Patrice O'Neal had diabetes and if you really followed him you would have heard him repeat this fact several times especially how bad it was getting right before he died

Anonymous said...

@7:55 peace brother/sister. No harm in giving BET a chance to do the right thing.
@7:57 Patrice O'Neal's Elephant In the Room was some of the best stand up I had heard in a long time. The man was a comedic genius, almost an oddity in his humor.

Check out his radio interview(I think his last)where he talks about going to jail as a juvenile(on a shady charge) maintaining his integrity in Hollywood and fighting to give his mother a better life. He talked explicity about how he would be more successful if he bent over and took it up the ass. On the real, that man spoke truth to power. All those gifts and the man lost to diabetes!

That combination of wit and deep thoughts is where black comedy needs to go. We've been doing the hollering and hooting for years already. Our peope need introspection.

@6:39 that was not bitterness but more of a personal choice....who has time to sit thru an hour of mediocore talent in hopes that one may make u chuckle once? as i see it comedy is comedy and comic view was not funny btw neither is that second gen wayans show......#corny

Rickey Smiley!!!!!!!

I remember this one comic view comedian who was like him and his girl used to fuck all over the place. He said he'd throw some glitter on the crowd, throw her on it, and freak freak freak lol

Comic view was funny when D.L. and Ced were hosts... I DESPISE Arnez J... Nothing is funny about him, all he does is yell and make strange noises, like the dude who's always waving the towel over his head....

Anonymous said...

ComicView was funny as hell. I like Shang Forbes,Gary Owens,Bruce Bruce,D Militant,etc

Anonymous said...

I highly doubt 2013ncomic view will offer up the laughs/talent it originated with. It would be better to just run re-runs from the "good old days of BET" I got a trunk full of VHS timer recorded episodes if they need some, BET VHS days were the best days

Sure wish they'd Bring back "Hits form the Streets".
And what's Rachelle been doing since "Planet Groove"? She was sexy as hell!
