Emmett Till Estate Pressuring Mountain Dew to Drop Lil Wayne

The family of Emmett Till is putting pressure on Mountain Dew to drop Lil Wayne from the Dew You ad campaign...

Fired up by the success of the women's groups who got Rick Ross dropped from Reebok for his offensive date rape lyrics [click here if you missed that] the Emmett Estate plans to mount a similar campaign against Lil Wayne.

The Emmett Till Estate tells All Hip Hop.com they intend to pressures all of Lil Wayne's sponsors, but especially Mountain Dew, over Weezy's disrespectful reference to Emmett Till in a rap lyric [click here if you missed that].

A sad sad day for COONS in America.....NOT!

haha get that piece of shit

The sad part is if he would have said something negative about a Jew or fag they would've been dropped his ass. In today's shit hole of a society there is more outrage over a black man calling a kike or white man a fag, than a white man calling a black man a nigger.

It's only rght - if they did it to one rapper, they might as well do it to the other(s). These fools should learn that disrespectful lyrics in their songs will NOT be tolerated or rewarded!

in my Uncle Ruckus voice:
And they should drop his monkey ass like a $2 bill.

@BeeGee YEP!

But anywayz who drinks Mountain Dew? SO if they don't drop him I will keep buying 7UP Sprite Mello Yellow j/k and if they do drop him I will start buying Mountain Dew!

Anonymous said...

No pity.

If these fools insist on demonstrating lyrically that they have no home training then they should be financially sanctioned.

Carry on.

who's idea was it to feature rappers in campaigns anyway? That was a bad idea.

I was just about to say who drink nasty ass Mountain Dew anyway?! But I agree with the above comments...

It's getting crucial out there. The public is actually demanding accountability and respect. SO SO PROUD.

Little Wayne is a monkey. He even looks like one. Little Wayne is NOT as smart as people think he is. Birdman is the brain of the operation, he been keeping Wayne doped up since he was a child and robbing him blind. Wayne is no where near as rich as he SHOULD be considering all hes done.

Are they serious? All of his deals? Look Emmitt Till story breaks my heart everytime it always have for years I wish nothing but peace for his family but this is some cryptic hypocrisy, you want wayne to be punished for being out of line just as emmitt was accused of? Fuck No! He made a Effed up line in a verse and it dont give it power, continue to try in speak to the record Co resolve your offended feelings that way cuz they better get after every rappers deals who mentioned his name bc Ive heard worse lyrics and you want to ruin his life? A LIFE ALREADY GOT LOST OVER IGNORANCE !! Freedom of speech! If you dont like it dont check for him..Move on we have no right to kill career kill someone bc you dont like what they say or how they express themselves Emmitt wouldve stood for free speech and making wayne a target for his own ppl to wish continued death on him stunts our race once again over words is pitiful. Dont let someone elses words have that kind of power set your own self free cuz IDGAF who aint here for this I aint got no worries

Its weird I just downloaded Future song karate chop yesterday and maybe a hour later they were reporting this on the radio anywhoo they have an entirely seperate version with wayne verse removed anyway..

Anonymous said...

@ 4:02 they prob monitoring the shit!!!

His lyrics were a little too much but there is a thing called freedom of speech. He has a right to say what he wants and we have a right not to listen. You cant control how rappers choose to express their "art". I have a 16yr old nephew who was listening to this song and I heard him recite the verse and I asked him if he knew who Emmit Till was and he had no clue. After telling him he was appalled. We just have to do better at educating our youth and keeping them informed.

This shit is ridiculous. Its funny how everybody is jumping on this bandwagon to make rappers more accountable for what they say now all of a sudden as if the disrespect just started yesterday. Whenever a rapper comes out with a song that has a positive message, nobody is checking for that shit. Rappers will say anything that they think sounds "cool" and the public is buying it- even when its been proven to be lies. (Married men rap about the single life, Rick Ross can't even fit his fat ass in half of the cars he claims to own- I could go on and on.) Its like the people want to hear about the drugs, fast cars, and fast women. Why do you think companies are reaching out to rappers to endorse their products in the first place? Because they can say anything and we (the general public) are still stans.

@2:56PM & 3:37PM - I dont think you realise that Emmitt Till was a child. "freedom fighter" nor "freedom of speech" does not come into it; you are showing your ignorance. Do you think Eminem would sing lyrics like that referencing Jonbenet Ramsay. Eartha Kitt's career was brought to an abrupt end by Lady Bird Johnson for using her freedom of speech to speak out in defence of young black men who sadly, are now on a mission to destroy the black race in everything they do. SMDH.

ITA with this. I think it's past time to pull the rug from under disrespectful "artist" with attitudes like Lil Troll. They've been getting away with stuff for far too long. Have some respect for your race and stop poisoning our youth with your "fuck it" attitude, cause all he's doing is spreading and promoting ignorance. These stories have to be told, it's part of our history. And just because the Yt people could care less about what pain they caused, it doesn't mean we have to have the same attitude. They respect their history and would never do or say some of the things our black artist take so lightly.

We need to fight ignorance with education. Stop focusing on what rappers are talking about, and instead focus on the context of the information our children are being taught in school. When I went to college, I had yt classmates who bragged about how our "collegiate" textbooks were exactly what they had in high school (look at when your kids schoolbooks were copyrighted and you'll see what I'm talking about). Most of the younger generation proably doesn't even know who Emmett Till was.

where do I sign?

@ 4:55 no way Im ignorant I kno he was a child I kno everything abt this story them pictures kill me!!!! I have overgrown cousins whos mouth can get a lil reckless but they r just kids it happens pls dont pretend that it doesnt but I dont have the right to take they life just bc of suspected inapropriateness all things shouldve been handled differently I wish neither situation happened to either of them idk what eminem would rap abt but he did rapped abt killing his baby mom and dept of mental health did not come for his coins!

This is because black people do not put their money where their mouth is. These companies know black folk will continue to cosign this ignorance, so they don't take the complaints of a few conscious brothers and sisters seriously, because the majority of our people will continue to support the cooning with our $$$.

Preach!

My heart breaks when I think back on the men, women and children who were bitten by police dogs, lost their jobs, and were blasted with water hoses for the freedom to vote and to speak our truth.

I am horrified that Black women Civil Rights protesters were jailed and their vaginas were doused with Lysol while by female jailers. VAGINAS + LYSOL!

People (both Black and White) DIED for Blacks to have rights that STILL must be voted on to this day (Voting Rights Act).

Black men, women and children died for our freedom to vote and our freedom of speech.

And this is what they suffered and died for, Lil' Wayne's right to make light of what enabled him to be free?

Black folks, this is what you get when you would rather forget the past rather than to teach your children from whence they came so that they can have SOME appreciation for the struggle of their race and have respect for those of us who came before them.

Just listen to Scarface talk about the industry today, the people who are in, and their lack of respect for who started the rap game. These #1 rappers don't even know who Kool Herc is. They don't even know rap history, much less Black History and they are too busy chasing tail and sipping syrup to even be interested.

When James Brown died, he was barely, if at all acknowledged for HIS contribution to Rap music. Without him, we would not have Rap as we know it.

So I have no pity for Rick Ross nor Lil' Wayne, nor any of the minstrels that insist destruction for pay.

I hope that all of their coins get snatched. Maybe then they might wake the F*&K up.

It was obvious that Pepsi supports ignorance.

They are shelling out $50 million for a bama ass poptart to pop her pussy and fling her wig like a cheap stripper onstage. Not a surprise that one of their subsidiaries would sign Lil Wayne to an endorsement deal.

@3:37 PM I understand where you coming from, but would you feel this strong if a white artist rapped or sung a song using the word 'nigger' in every other verse of his song?
