Orlando Jones Taking Over Madea Role

Orlando Jones will be taking over the role of Madea in Tyler Perry's next movie...

This is not a joke.

Former Mad TV star Orlando Jones is starring in Tyler Perry's Madea Christmas because Tyler is too busy with his new projects on Oprah's OWN Network.

Tyler explains,
"It is with mixed emotion that I announce that I will be unable to portray Madea in the next chapter in her journey. The character has been such a gift and it was my hope and intention to play this role again in the upcoming film. But, due to my commitments to the exciting new venture I am launching with OWN and Discovery Communications, I must now put all my energy into our new slate of shows that will launch on the network later this year."

8:58, STDS are more prevalent in gay men who have unprotected sex, but how can you just solely blame them? Women need to demand condoms as well.

I don't know how I feel about this. As crazy as it is, I'm used to Tyler doing this. And he does it WELL.

Black men love being made into bitches. Our culture is so far gone that we look at this shit and laugh as if it's normal.

I just read that Kevin Hart agreed to dress as a woman for a role, something he said he would never do.

Good for Orlando but this sounds like a stupid idea for the character. Maybe Tyler realized that no matter what he plays outside of Madea people still see his face so he'd like someone elses face to play her.

@9:50

He did it for SNL. If he'd done it for a major movie and responded with "they paid me X amount of dollars so hell yea I wore a dress" I'd slightly understand. But this nigglet dressed as a woman for network television and chump change.

who started this practice of men dressing as women in theater productions? was it flip wilson? sonny? or maybe it was the greeks...

@10:18

The most recent trend is to have black men in dresses or as gays.I think Denzel and Idris are the ONLY well-known black actors who have not played a homosexual or dressed in drag on screen. David Chappelle exposed this trend on his interview with Oprah. Oprah just sat there staring at David while he bust the truth wide open. Major white male actors rarely dress in drag but it is required for black males in Hollywood. Those black men are desperate to offer their anuses as a blood sacrifice to make it in movies and television.

Notable and prolific white male actors have dressed in drag... Ms Doubtfire? To Wong Foo? Priscilla Queen of the Desert? the Rocky Horror Picture show? The Birdcage? To name a few. But i will say this, it does seem as though men who are actors do this as a right of passage to more fame. Black and white.

@10:08 AM

Traditionally, men filled all roles. There isn't anything "gay" about men acting in women roles. Theatre is where make believe is true.

Yeh this isn't just a black issue, but it seems to be predominantly a comedian "requirement". I think Tom Hanks, who was originally a funny guy (before he became a box office draw as a serious actor) had a sitcom where him and some other cat dressed in drag and went to a girls' school. John Travolta, Johnny Depp, Mel Gibson. It's definitely not a black thing.

Fuck Tyler Perry, he's is Boule' and contributing to the effiminization of the black male...

@10:30 you're an idiot. that's all.

There are straight actors and for that matter, who dress in drag.

But Orlando Jones has always set my gaydar off.

He has done the drag thing before in Double Take.

The problem is that these roles are push offensive stereotypes about black women.

Why can't we have a Madea who is outspoken, smart, older, beautiful, and played by a female actress?

Why does she have to be portrayed by ugly, sasquatch-looking, wig wearing man, Tyler Perry?

Most of those roles where white men played female characters were not pushing tired stereotypes about women. Those movies and shows played on the humor of a man trying to act like a woman...

Madea is actually a man BEING a woman, which is what is most offensive.

other actors who "crossed over" in roles:

he looks like a middle-aged beyonce in that pic.

But like I said, most of those roles were about the character pretending to be someone of the opposite gender, not like Madea, who actually IS a woman (played by a male actor).

This would be the perfect time for Madea to die. I mean really. The Madea thing is a bit overdone now. Just let her retire to the upper room already.

Anonymous said...

Ha with mixed emotions. So you're hurt that you will be unable to act like a female. You niggas crack me up. All for a dollar though huh?

Anonymous said...

Time for retirement & I'm not talking about Madea or Orlando Jones. TP's writing has gotten so stale, dated, unoriginal

No one actually believes this is real, right? I mean, come on....

CTFU! quit playing, see people play too much!

I guess this will be for the anticipated series on Oprah's network that will save it's ratings.
