Mountain Dew Drops Lil Wayne

Two days after Lil Wayne's non-apology to the family of Emmett Till for using his name to describe rough sex in a rap lyric, Mountain Dew has decided to cut ties with Weezy...

The family of Emmett Till asked Lil Wayne for a public apology back in February after the remix for Future's Karate Chop leaked online containing the lyric, "I'mma beat the p***y up like Emmett Till [click here if you missed that]."

Lil Wayne ignored the family's pleas for an apology until earlier this week when they threatened to put pressure on Mountain Dew and Weezy's other sponsors until they got a response [click here if you missed that].

Apparently Lil Wayne's non-apology letter was too little, too late because Mountain Dew's parent company PepsiCo just released a statement saying Wayne’s “offensive reference to a revered civil rights icon does not reflect the values of our brand” and cut all ties with the rapper.

Great! Knock that arrogance (and ignorance) down a knotch and show that hip hop fans do stand for something.

Thank you to the Till Family.

If Pepsi can cut ties, then the community can certainly follow suit (too bad, they didn't lead the way)!

Dropping like dominos.
But my anger and resentment isn't just directed at the "tool" (these rappers, but at the "machine" (these rich, greedy corporations) that have the absolute audacity and GAUL to use the trash of so-called Black culture to sell their POISON disguised as food and drink to our people.
WE MUST NOW BOYCOTT PEPSICO PRODUCTS.

Check their site, print a list of their products and avoid at all costs, then sit back and watch their stock CRASH.
These companies are going to learn they can't exploit us anymore. The hard way.

Trash processed food. I want a FUCKING APOLOGY FROM PEPSI to the Till family and some form of outreach to youth at risk. FUCK PEPSI! Were they not the same racists who okayed that stereotypical superbowl ad with the angry black woman? Lets aim the fucking canons at these bigwigs.!

Yes! This some of the best news of the day. There is no excise for his bullshit and we should never accept. It's a new day and its time for black oppressors to receive the same treatment as the white ones. We have got to STOP putting money in their pockets.

Pepsi must GO!!!!

Anonymous said...

Didn't Lil Wayne just say "I could give a fuck about these haters long as my bitches love me." He knows he'll still make money with his music. His lyrics have always been disrespectful to so many people on so many levels. Why get mad at PepsiCo for something Lil Wayne said?! Boycott his concerts and album sales if you really want to make a statement.

Anonymous said...

why get mad at Pepsi?^^no, foreal? Cuz pepsi is METHODICALLY choosing these lowlife rappers to sell their products to us. You have to look at the bigger picture. They are using him to sell to the Black community. They know black youth will drink their poison if Waynes ugly mug is attached to the product. They could have chosen any respectable Black entertainer. BUT THEY DID NOT AND WILL NOT. SEE THE TYLER THE CREATURE POST!

Pepsi using Beyonce and Wayne to sell to blacks because they consider us to be child-like. Blacks have all types of health issues we should never embrace this garbage stuff. All types of obesity and diabetes and high blood pressure and Beyonce's greedy ass wants to sell Pepsi and Wayne is selling green poison. They should be ashamed. But both their fan bases are idiotic so Pepsi knew they made the right choice. Well until Wayne had to go as far as insulting the legacy of a child beaten to death. What's next? Beyonce doing a photoshops posing as Rosa Parks being arrested? Her vain and tired ass would do some shit like that. And her dum dum fans will say she got arrested better than Rosa Parks.

they do think we are all stupid....pepsi and mountain dew nasty as hell anyway and reeboks r just lame....lil wayne and rick ross got dropped but imma need to see a little more progression before i get excited....these demons called corporations will try to go thru the backdoor on our asses now..we need to stay vigilant....oh big ups to the Till family for not accepting the bullshit

Anonymous said...

This is just the start. Boycott companies, liquor stores (we keep them in business) check cashing places, predatory title loans places. White folks won't have them in their neighborhoods so why have we allowed this garbage?

Anonymous said...

love to see this fool being held accountable. maybe hitting these fools where it hurts will cause them to be more responsible with the garbage they spew. i stand with the tills.

Anonymous said...

Funny how rappers never apologize until it affects their wallets...Wayne had plenty of opportunity to apologize, offer a meaningful apology and chose not to. Same for Big Titty Ross.

They're setting a piss-poor example and will make it harder for future rappers to get endorsement deals. Every 10 steps we take as a community, there are some niggers that set us back 30.

First, Beyonce is called out for being bleached in Loreal (reminiscent of bleaching cream being advertised to Black women in the early 20th century).

Second, Rick Ross is dropped.

Third, Tyler the Monkey's commercial is banned.

Now this gremlin creature is dropped.

More and more Black folk are starting to wake up. And I'm loving it. Keep it up. Enough of this coonery already.

These comments are REFRESHING, black people.. We have a lot of work to do starting with Corporations, local business, these dumb ass rappers not taking responsibility for the blatant disrespect for our race & culture. And more importantly, we have to teach our young their history so they can respect & have more dignity/pride.
Let's go people...

Anonymous said...

i'm so glad to see this little turd getting his.

Anonymous said...

Wayne's delayed apology was some bull shit that seemed forced. I guess martians have no compassion since it really shouldnt be a big deal to apologize for being offensive. This idiot had ample time to diffuse the situation quietly & really could've used his platform to enlighten his followers on what happend to a black child in America in those years...

Anonymous said...

I'm loving all these comments yes yes yes....... I reached out to Pepsi back in February about Wayne and my own personal protest. Keep it my friends these corporations are gonna learn today lol

Anonymous said...

These entertainers today are GARBAGE. Though I'm young I don't give them my money.

Anonymous said...

This gremlin is a black man. A black man who KNOWS better. He KNEW what happenend to Emmitt Till and CHOSE to place his name is lyrics that were demeaning. I am glad someone spoke up agaisnt this mess and something was done. It' sad and sickening to see a black do this and think it's ok. Emmitt Till was a beautiful young boy taken from his home and savagely beaten to death by two alleged men (utter morons) because some dumbass broad says he whistled at her. This kid, a kid....died for NOTHING. Hardly the kind of thing we should mock or disrespect in any way. Wayne got what he deserved. Hope others take note. Enough with the stupidity and disrespect.

Anonymous said...

all his music is garbage. he needs to be shut down completely.

Anonymous said...

Lil Wayne still has a endorsement deal with Supra footwear don't support it

Shit...if we calling out Martian supporters then we gotta start with his daddy CASH MONEY. "Boy ur daddy should've taught you better, disrespect our culture & we gon get-cha". Let's hit him where it hurts, in the pockets of them skinny jeans

Like the memo 8:56. Hope they ALL get it now.

i am so glad for this also! i can remember as a child seeing that picture of emmitt till, not even recognizable as a human being laying in his casket. that anyone would do something so sick and evil.

^THIS^

And GOOOOOOOODDD!!! I'm ecstatic and overjoyed by this news. Congrats to the Till family!
These coons gon' learn today!!!

Their apologies aren't even sincere. The only reason they offer an half assed apology is because they don't want it to effect their money. All these rabid coons care about is money. I say Goooooooooddd! Again that his ugly ass got dropped. I can't stand this sell out, and others like him in mainstream.
In the 90's there was a keepin' it real element to hip hop. These coons have broken every rule, and have sold us down the river, all for the love of money. We as black people need to start fighting against these coons. These Coons, jiggaboos, shoe shining, boot licking, house niccas are a disease in our community that needs to be eradicated.

AND LET'S NOT FORGET HE SAID HE WAS THE NEW TUPAC SHAKUR.BWAHAHA!THIS ALONE SHOWS YOU THAT HE LOST HIS MIND!

Look, I'm white & I'm horribly offended by his mention of Emmett Till. Why would the brutal slaying of a child be ok to reference in such a way? It's because of horrific situations like Emmetts death that this guy is even able to live the life he leads. He has completely disrespected his heritage & history. So many people fought & died for the civil rights movement & this low life just took a crap on all of it! How would he feel if his 14 year old child was beat to death simply because of the color of his skin? He obviously respects nothing but money & is completely ignorant. What's next? Will he rap about banging Rosa Parks or make fun of how MLK was murdered? What a waste of flesh this guy is...

Anonymous said...

Have you guys notice that there osre several things that are sold in Black neighborhoods but not White. Such as, Churches chicken, kystal or white castle, malt liquor, check cashing places, liquor stores on one corner and a church on the other. list list goes on. Most is set up in Black neighborhoods but Whites will fight hard to keep that shit out of theirs. I found out through a person in politic that Blacks usually are not asked if they want this shit in their neighbor hood or not but Whites are asked. We got to do better and speak up cause it's our money too that runs our community. Now as far as Pepsi and Beyonce....bad decision. First too many young girls and boys see her as a role model but she is promoting sugary drinks. Next she was a part of the 1st lady project to fight obesity in young kids but yet she felt free to say bow down bitch and last she is to contridictory on what she does to make her unfit as a role model for any kid. So Pepsi listen up do what you got to do to stop Pepsi from being a generic drink with generic products.

@12:27 Of course. There is no Chipotle, Panera, or even subway in ANY hood.....why is that? Black people don't eat sandwiches? lol Black folks don't like burritos? It's all by design and it's a fucked up design. They put pizza, chicken, BBQ and liquor in the hood to keep everybody fat and sick. That way we can't fight back.

Anonymous said...

As far as the topic....good fucking riddance but I hope this isn't a publicity stunt. Reebok is back talking to Rick Ross because they thirsty asses need the urban audience. Mountain Dew don't really need Wayne. I personally love Mountain Dew but that shit is NOT good for you. Hell, no soda is good for you. I say fuck Wayne because he doesn't give a fuck about us. He says in every song how much he doesn't give a fuck about anyone else but his "bitches". I miss Pac.

Anonymous said...

This clown's career would have been over long ago if Pac was alive ! He should get his ass beatdown for disrespecting Emmett Till like that ! We got to keep going in these Uncle Tom ass so called rappers pockets and mouths! Where are the positive rappers at? Why they ain't checking these bums? SMMH

Anonymous said...

I miss Pac too. At least his music was balanced. And he was the voice of the people in a positive way. Pac was also very intelligent. I love watching his interviews and listening to him speak, he was such a charismatic person with a beautiful spirit. I can't stand this ugly coon. And others like him. They have no shame and no morals. As long as they're getting their money F everybody else is their motto.

R.I.P Tupac, the good die young!

Anonymous said...

214 agrees I'm a female and the only rappers I like is pac. Lil wayne is soooooooo disrespectful.

Anonymous said...

Now that's the way to go Pepsi...the family along with Stevie Wonder should pressure the other sponsors to drop his ass.

This was so sad & disrespectful. But Wayne being from a broken home in a lost city should study his history more. He needs to Google the open casket images of Emmett Till beaten beyond recognition.

Anonymous said...

After all why keep a dead celebrity on board, and who in the hell drinks these poisons anyway? this shit along with all the other poison, pepsi, coke, fast foods has caused more diabetes, heart disease and tooth decay in our communities than environmental pollutants anyday. these paid slaves do not represent the race on a whole. no self respecting parent allow their children to listen to the trash disguised as "art" by these fools let alone the crap the shill for yt.

Honey Bun said...

^ Yes you are totally right , but you said it in the end yourself these " trash" artists are used to sell trashy food

so it makes sense, why do you think Pepsi hired Beyonce? You don't see Pepsi hiring someone like Mariah or Sade, having a Pepsi contract is not a good thing in the eyes of her peers, but hey the girl is getting paid, I doubt it's anything close to what they claim she's getting , $50 mill? Show me the receipts.

Trash selling shit, yup sounds about right .

Jay Gee said...

I stay in Metro Detroit. There are Subways there.
White people get major food/drink deals. Brittney Spears has been a Pepsi spokeswoman as has Pink and a slew of other white people.

I think with food options being so disproportionate in the inner-city, companies don't respect our dollar. Honestly, take the average person in the hood right now. Do you think they'd spend $5 at Chipoltle and get less or $5 at McDonalds and get two burgers, nuggets fries and a drink? sadly, people dont know how to shop efficently and effectively. It's the options that are presented.

Anonymous said...

Another big reason why things happen in our neighborhoods without our say is that we aren't civically involved. We don't vote in local elections which are really the most important.

That said, these comments give me hope. We're mad as hell, and we're not taking it anymore! Take your monkey music and pack it up!

Anonymous said...

9:53, Mariah did a Pepsi ad for them, way back in the day:

http://youtu.be/HD1IQS-mEzM

She doesn't typically do endorsements, that's why you never see her in any. I think her last endorsement was HP computers also in 2005 before she did Jenny Craig a couple years ago.

Back to the topic, I'm glad this is finally one thread we all can get behind on and support. We need to stop letting these ridiculous artists - not just rappers - think they can say and do whatever they please and think there will be no consequences to their actions.

Honey Bun said...

^ Ooh I like those ringtones she made for them
