Jay Z Under Fire for Invasion of Privacy

A privacy advocate group wants the Federal Trade Commission to investigate Jay Z and Samsung for privacy violations related to the Magana Carta Holy Grail free app giveaway...

Samsung famously gave away 1 million copies of Jay Z's new album The Magna Carta Holy Grail 72 hours before it's official release to users who downloaded a Samsung smartphone app [click here if you missed that].

The catch is that users had to agree to give Jay and Samsung access to their phone storage, location, phone call details, networks and other apps on their phones. They also had to give the Magna Carta app permission to post on their Twitter and Facebook pages.

The Electronic Privacy Information Center [Epic] is asking the Federal Trade Commission to investigate the app, calling it unnecessarily invasive and "depriving users of meaningful choice regarding the collection of their data."

Epic wants the FTC to order Samsung to "delete the user data that was improperly obtained" and, in future, collect only user data that is "necessary to run the app".

JAY is Baffoon, I never forget after he won a grammy for Niggas In paris, he had his shades on and cigar in his mouth cooning so proud backstage like he made his white masters proud or something, like that song was his lifelong achievement, a song that reinforced that every black person was a Nigga. I have zero respect for his hustle. Quite frankly I think he gives blow jobs to white corporate men to get these deals.

Stores are now stealing your phone information when you walk through their doors if you don't disable your WiFi. Private companies are tracking and recording and then selling your license plate information. It's serious outchea!

10:53 is totally right though. This is bullshit, they're only targeting him because he's a black man making money that they can't have! Like will y'all ever let this shit go, leave us alone you stupid Pilgrims!!!

Anonymous said...

Then we have crazy blacks in our own race who doesnt want their own to have. If Jay was white people would be okay with him having shit. Black people come on lets do better. We still have a fucking slave mind. If a white girl and guy was a couple and big like Bey and Jay yall be okay with it but we not comfortable with our own rising to the top. Whites dont care about you so love your own.

Death to all Jay-Z stans.

LMAO @ 11:00. Lovin' it! People are sick of these two!

Anonymous said...

Samsung collects data not Jay people, he just struck a deal with them to promote his new album thats all. the rest is Samsung issues!

Anonymous said...

This has nothing to do with Jay Z like the first commenter said almost every app does this.

Anonymous said...

But why did he strike that type of deal. Thats why people can't stand these two, they want to be only successful black people in the biz to prosper and the stans think Jay and Beydumb never know what their getting into, their habds are completely clean, they sign contracts and be on their merry way. You idiots still don't get that GayZ and Beydumb are corporation slaves pushing an agenda. All the stans need to be tied up and dumped in traffic.

that might be true. however, jay-z and samsung rolled out the project in a very grand fashion, with lots of fanfare. and that is why the privacy issues caught everyone's attention.

this isn't the first time EPIC ever went after someone for privacy violations. jay-z did sort of do them a favor: front page news for them instead of page nine news.

i'm glad this issue is on the front page now - companies and govenment have been sneaking around invading privacy for too long.

Why is it that people are now just saying something about it. I'm more than sure that the majority of the people who own samsung phones are aware or better yet ya'll asses should have read the disclaimer when you downloaded the shit. I am not a Jay-z fan but he just got paid once again for ya'll dumb ass mistake.

When you downloaded the app you had the choice to agree or disagree to the stipulations of the contract. FOH

Anonymous said...

A lot of people don't care about the privacy issues. They just click "I Agree" automatically.

They want to be connected to the grid, like in The Matrix.

They want a computer program to tweet to their friends, so they don't have to.

Next up: a music app that will decide what music you like based on your profile and automatically draw money out of your checking account to make the purchase. Just click "I Agree" when they ask for access to your financial accounts.

11:16...I agree but sadly, black folks don't even like black folks so how can we expect others to like us and give us respect when we don't? SMH...

11:37: People have the right to CHOOSE to download apps or not. These apps clearly explain what is going to happen if consumers do so the choice is yours whether or not to put your information out there via apps. Perhaps people will be more mindful and read before they automatically just click the download button!
Remember, every time you swipe your credit card, debit car, write a check - your information is electronically out there.

EVERYTHING HE AND HIS BEWIGGED WIFE TOUCHES LATELY, TURNS TO SHIT.

Thats what happens when you sell your soul. Thats why the stans can brag on them all they want, I dont care how much they have, when you got it the way they do, that shit backfires every time, and the downfall is always of epic proportion.

11:12 AM - shut the fuck up and learn to pick your battles. People can use whatever goddamn font they so chose. So fuckin PETTY.

Anonymous said...

@12:34 of course people have the right to choose. of course notices are presented. but none of us wants to read dozens or hundreds of lines of tiny print every single time we download something or purchase something, before we decide to do it.

do you read every contract line by line? i sure don't. i just read enough to get the gist of it, and i click "no" a lot.

the big social issue is to consider what is "lawful" and "reasonable" for a company to ask for given the situation. and we set up laws so that we don't have to worry every waking moment that the companies with which we do business are sifting through our personal information looking for ways to profit from our acquaintances, habits, or personal histories.

I was going to say that when celebs sign on with companies, when that company goes down the celeb goes with it, but you two have brought me back to Earth with your comments. These two know what their doing. They only see $$$$$$$.

Did y'all know when you write out a check and sign your name, it's not really a line like "_________" but in fine small print it says

AUTHORIZED SIGNATUREAUTHORIZED SIGNATURESIGNATUREAUTHORIZED SIGNATUREAUTHORIZED SIGNATUREAUTHORIZED

over and over again? Look at it closely. Check any "legal" document you have to sign for. Even on your Social Security Card and your Birth Certificate!

None of this shit is ours. We are all just "AUTHORIZED" agents in the USA CORPORATION.
