Nicki Minaj Sued Over Starships

Nicki Minaj is facing a copyright infringement lawsuit over her smash hit single Starships...

Underground artist Clive Tanaka filed his lawsuit against Nicki Minaj in Chicago on Tuesday claiming Nicki and her producers copied substantial portions of his less widely known 2011 single "Neu Chicago."

Tanaka is seeking unspecified damages.

You be the judge. Did Nicki steal her beat from Tanaka?

Just because something has a similar chord progression doesn't mean it's theft.

They sound similar but there are a lot of songs that have similar cords....he needs to show that he presented his music to her team or someone affiliated w her team and later had it stolen. If not this is just a mere coincidence. & if you can get paid for coincidence then shit I'm owned a lot dough!!!

Actually he does have to present it to her team. If he posted the video on youtube like it apppears he has then that's enough to prove that someone heard and stole it.

Theres nothing amazing about her. She is just a hood rapper who sucked her way up. Weaved up, make up, fake body parts and always in some no good ass man face.

It sounds the same. If, you take a beat and use different instruments to make the same beat, it is still stealing. Tanaka original beat sounds very island but it is still the same, even with the house pop makeover they did on the Minaj track. The person suing for their music isn't trying to make a quick buck, it is the person stealing trying to make a quick buck. Filing lawsuits are not cheap, legal fees do add up.

Actually I listened for a minute and a half. the breakdown is very similar. a lil too similar. I'm over nicki though.

But why sue Nicki if she didn't produce the record?
