Beyonce Blasted for Sampling Challenger Audio

Beyonce forced to defend herself after using audio from the ill-fated 1986 NASA Challenger launch for her new single...

In 1986 the space shuttle Challenger exploded 73 seconds after launch, killing all 7 astronauts on board.

In her new single XO Beyonce samples audio from the live television broadcast of NASA Mission Control telling horrified viewers, "Flight controllers here looking very carefully at the situation. Obviously a major malfunction...”

After being called out by for her grossly insensitive use of the clip Beyonce insists there was no disrespect intended.

Beyonce explains,
My heart goes out to the families of those lost in the Challenger disaster. The song 'XO' was recorded with the sincerest intention to help heal those who have lost loved ones and to remind us that unexpected things happen so love and appreciate every minute that you have with those who mean the most to you. The songwriters [Ryan Tedder and Terius ‘The Dream’ Nash] included the audio in tribute to the unselfish work of the Challenger crew with hope that they will never be forgotten.
