Nas Performing Entire Illmatic at Coachella

The 2014 Coachella Music Festival is. Going. to. KILL.

Last month Outkast confirmed they would reunite at Coachella to celebrate their 20th anniversary [click here if you missed that], now add Nas and Illmatic to the mix...

In celebration of Illmatic's 20th anniversary Nas will be performing the entire album during his Cocahella set.

Don't bother trying to get Coachella tickets, they've long since sold out, but both Nas and Outkast are touring the music festival circuit this year so there's still a chance of catching them live.

Everything Nas Ever Put Out Had The Thoroughbred Stamp From The Streets... Even That Pop Shit With Diddy & Ginuine Was Banging For The Summer. Leave These Subjects To The Real HipHop Headz & Stick to JayZ&Diddy Where the Fuck You From To Post A Dumb UnInformed Comment Like That?? Must Be A Bumpkin Or Either Young/Dumb

Nas was a beautiful boy , now hes a beautiful man w/ a beautiful MIND

Love him and his art but won't support him w/ my money. Not after he gave that white trash ass Gwen a nigga pass. I will NEVER see him the same

Oh my gosh, all I need now is Foxy Brown to stage a comeback at this show.

Well at least Nas didn't punch a black woman in the face like JayZ

Nas is the New God MC
Rakim couldn't hold the Crown w/o Eric B

Why do people born in the 1970s think that their opinions on all things Hip Hop are golden? Please with that shit. Nas is straight, but like every other Black lyricist, MC, rapper, etc., folks just overrate them based on personal preference--and that's cool, but don't try to force your opinions on other folks.

Anonymous said...

@9:17 :

I felt he "punched me in the face" when he took up for her. I thought MORE of him and sorely disappointed.

Anonymous said...

9:26, So Nas affected you, huh? A man that you'll probably never meet? A man that has NO idea you are breathing? Black folks and celebrity worship is sad.

Anonymous said...

@9:25. Because we know the roots of hip-hop & we look at the progression of the category from wide view lens & tend to think more critically...true lyricism of story telling & lyrical warfare is the essence. Sorry if your vision is myopic and tunnel-like.

You figure it out...

@9:32. MUSIC in general have many affects on people whether the song speaks to directly OR takes you back to a specific place and time OR reminds you of someone/something special OR the rhythm simply makes you feel good. That's what makes "art" so special, when a stranger's touches you with their body of work and you're able to connect/relate.

Anonymous said...

Nas has The Gift... And the fountain of youth.
Lol!!! Nigga still looking like his baby picture

Anonymous said...

9:34, My vision is not myopic or tunnel-like, and please give Merriam-Webster or Google their Hip Hop quote back. Like I said, being born in a certain decade gives you no authoritative control over the opinions that others have of Hip Hop. The funny thing is--Hip Hop is a complete joke nowadays, and I wonder why your 'pioneers' didn't do enough to preserve their craft and hand the lyrical baton off to the right people.

Anonymous said...

People born in the 1970s ain't shit. They are the parents of these 1990s babies and that speaks volumes. The parents of the 1970s babies were probably all heroin users, with failed Disco dreams.

Anonymous said...

@9:50. Im hearing what ur saying but In terms of preservation, thats another subject that includes ownership, education, and to your point, upholding "our" pioneers' legacacies to higher standards. #HipHopbeenDead

Bee Gee said...

@9:50 - The lyrical baton is mostly underground. The mainstream is the joke but the mainstream doesn't speak for the genre. Real hip hop heads dwell underground these days... either that or they live in the archives.

Every genre feels like their time was the best - it should make for good debate, not senseless argument. Nobody ever loses that argument because nobody is ever right or wrong about that. So be it..

Anonymous said...

@9:50. Thank you for the compliment. My parents spent a lot of money for private school. glad you admire my writing...

Anonymous said...

@beegee. Well said.

Anonymous said...

10:13, I was educated in PUBLIC schools and have a Doctorate. So what, exactly, is your point? Folks like you bring up your academic pedigree like it will somehow negate the fact that your opinion is not subjective.

Anonymous said...

Bee Gee, with your flawed logic, no one will ever win these debates either. Hip Hop sophistication is not based upon the opinions of a group of people born within a certain decade.

Anonymous said...

@10:13. Are you 9:50? Otherwise my comment wasn't intended for you. what? you had to jump in because you're a "good" product of the P.S. system?!!? Gtfoh with your judgment this morning...some of my BEST friends are products of the P.S. system..my comment was not to offend just my story, Bitch!

This fool lost total credibility with me when he defended Paltrow's nigga tweet. After that, I was done.

I miss Tupac!

Bee Gee said...

@10:36am - Just because you don't understand my logic doesn't mean it's flawed. If you understood what I was saying you'd know that I was saying that IT IS NOT A WINNABLE DEBATE. Everyone feels like their time was the best and that's that. How do you win or lose that debate/argument?

You don't.

Anonymous said...

@9:25 - And BECAUSE you stated this shows exactly why your opinion completely doesn't matter.

So thanks for the shitty music you guys are bringing to the table. Let's see if any of the artists from your generation last this long.

Meanwhile, shut the fuck up while grown people are talking and respect the best.

Anonymous said...

Bee Gee, most human logic is flawed based upon imperfection and science alone, but let's not go there today, okay? Thanks. You probably couldn't keep up with the caliber of a spiritually-scientific discussion anyway.

Anonymous said...

11:01, You have no idea which decade I was born in because I never mentioned it. If you were born in the 1970s, your family and teachers clearly and obviously failed you because your comment is so infantile and it shows that you lack control and comprehension. Here's what your last sentence read:

"Meanwhile, shut the fuck up while grown people are talking and respect the best."

Is that necessary from a 40 year old? Get your mind right. Also, "the best", again, is subjective and based on personal preference. Pac, BIG, Hov, and a host of others have been called "the best" by their fans, yet and still, it doesn't mean that any of them are the best. If you can't intellectually discourse, perhaps you should refrain from commenting, with your grown ass.

WOW! Even I want to attend Coachella.

Bee Gee said...

@11:02am - You talkin' all that high powered shit but I see you don't have a rebuttal for my flawed logic about hip-hop debates. Maybe you're just visiting us less-intelligent life-forms here on RWS to shed some of your own intellectual insecurities. You can stop pretending you came here for a spirited discussion and I'll stop pretending that I don't see right through your pretense.

Anonymous said...

Rap/Hip Hop Music and Sports. That's all Black folks know about. Ask 'em about Stonehenge, the colors of Mars' soil, Beethoven's ancestry, or something like that, and they won't be able to tell ya.

Anonymous said...

Bee Gee, first you said that no one can 'lose' a hip hop debate, and then I proceeded with, you can't 'win' one either. And yes, your logic is still flawed because you're flawed. Intellectual insecurities? Those are what you have, not I.

To the doctor:

........I think Bart from the Simpsons said it the best.

"Bart: That's stupid. You talk like you're smart, but you're stupid."

*ahem* flexes fingers...

This is an entertainment site. Why the fuck would we talk about fucking Stonehenge on an entertainment site the SAME way we wouldn't talk about Kris Jenner on a geological site. What a STUPID fucking statement.

Secondly, greatness CAN be defined by era. Since you like to talk about Beethoven, was his era not great? Did he not make transcending music that people revere till this very comment section?

Thirdly, you obviously have NO grasp on hip hop--you fly by night doctor. So go do a fucking surgery or some shit and leave the debate on real hip hop to us.

And oh yeah, shut the fuck up while grown people are talking.

Mod said...

11:49,
Pipe down. The 'doctor' was not the author of the Stonehenge, Beethoven's ancestry, and Mars' soil comment. I understand you are trying hard to come off intelligent, but the profanity negates it all.

Happy commenting.

Anonymous said...

People who can't express themselves without using profanity are ignorant and suffering from anger management/manic-depression.

Anonymous said...

that is the best rap album of all time. I want to go!

Bee Gee said...

@11:40am - Exactly, it's not a win/lose thing when people from different eras of a musical genre are concerned. You can try to nit pick and pretend not to understand what I'm getting at, but that just further proves my point - you're not here for any kind of spirited debate. Take care.

Nas is so fine. I would still do bad, bad things with that man.

On topic - This album is true hip hop. Timeless and inspires you like real music should. This kind of hip hop has a spiritual element to it that is missing nowadays. It was done for the love of the art. Period. Listen to A Tribe Called Quest 'The Love Movement' for reference. They can describe it better than I can. (CAN WE PLEASE GET A TRIBE CALLED QUEST REUNION???) It was untainted and you could feel it through the music, like the spiritual frequency was a lot higher than today's music. Anybody feel me on that?

Thank you! And I for one hope it stays there. If I want to listen to REAL Hip Hop I know where to go. REAL Hip Hop damn sure ain't what you're hearing via mainstream media, be it TV or radio.

I have every single album Nas has put out (on CD) and a few of his albums on my iPod. The man is a poet, and a lyrical genius. He to me is one of the greatest rappers dead or alive. He's definitely in my top 5. And Illmatic will forever be a classic. These younguns talking about people from the 70's. well, I was born in 82. And grew up on REAL Hip Hop! Yo MTV Raps anyone? I remember sneaking downstairs to watch that show, because it used to come on late and on a school night. Anyhoo I'd love attend this. Nas is sexy and talented. Like wine he gets finer with time.

Anonymous said...

@12:50 I most certainly do! If only music was like that today, there wouldn't be so many dummies running around. I miss the way Hip Hop used to be. But I'm glad that it now resides where it first began, which is underground!

Anonymous said...

Love Nas! I've been to a Nas concert in NY, and it was so animated! He's such a great performer with great music--I was not disappointed, and it was just so memorable!

Anonymous said...

Fuck Nas, mayne.

After this coon-in-disguise took up for Gwyneth Paltrow when she said the "N-word", the way he let Redman and Method Man publicly drag the mother of his child, he can go to hell.

Nas is just the token "conscious" rapper. He is still an ignorant nigga whose dumb ass parents let him drop out of eighth grade! WHO LET'S THEIR CHILD DROP OUT OF EIGHTH GRADE????

Real conscious rappers are Phonte, Oddisse, Chuck D, Jean Grae, Talib and Mos Def.

^^^ONLY PERSON IN HERE THAT AGREE WITH.

Nas is talented but he is a phony. He is just as grimy and childish as the rest of these mainstream rappers. Just ignore the groupie action going on in here. You women think he's fine even after he jumped to the defense of an ignorant white woman and let two Black men publicly insult his ex-wife?

And I see why so many Black women end up single mothers or scorned and bitter because you all choose the WORST MEN.

OK...I'm no fan of the degrading word nigga...BUT why not be mad at Jay & Ye for the naming the title song??? Gwen don't get a pass but if I was "actually/physically" in Paris back stage and these two are on stage performing this song.... I WOULD TWEET THAT SHIT TOO...If you wanna be done/thru with somebody be done with your kids running around here using the word as a term of endearment. #selective-assProtestors.
