According to TMZ producer Chauncey Mahan tried to extort $100k from Jay Z and Live Nation in exchange for the missing masters, rumored to be worth between $15 and $20 million.
After a sting set up by Live Nation Chauncey was briefly detained and questioned by police but the tapes have been confiscated until a judge can determine their rightful owner.
Chauncey denies the extortion allegations claiming the $100k was simply a storage fee for keeping the tapes safe after all these years.
In turn Jay Z and Live Nation filed a criminal larceny complaint.
The investigation is ongoing.
