Tyrese Demands Respect After Grammy Loss

R&B singer Tyrese demands respect for himself and R&B in general after losing Grammys to Lalah Hathaway and D'Angelo...

The overall #BlackRoseAlbum didn't get a Grammy nom..... Sent the wrong message.... And rather you know it or not it killed a lot of dreams for singers, writers and producers who worked their asses off to create this R&B Soul masterpiece..... It's not about the validation of a win..... It's about the culture.... How could you NOT nominate or recognize a pure R&B Soul album that delivered on ALL levels....??? This is my message to the young and geniusly talented producers, writers and my executives of #VoltronRecordz stay encouraged - stay inspired and know that you're not the ONLY ones confused...... It feels like theirs something purposely and maliciously trying to kill our genre - and it's all politics and that's a game I don't play too well at all.... This is why I will forever respect the "People's Choice" not the political choice - theirs not enough egos to stroke or gift baskets you could ever send to figure out the Grammys - the success of our beloved #BlackRoseAlbum #1 on the top 200 of Billboard, #1 for 3 week on the R&B Billboard charts, #1 in 15 countries and my song #SHAME #1 for 16 weeks - Grammy? Nooooooooooooooo - we gave our best...... Stay encouraged..... (( let me go on record and say that EVERYONE ELSE will benefit from my political wars NOT ME..)). And I'm ok with it - as long as everything changes I don't even want the credit.... My ego isn't in it.... I'm just speaking on what RIGHT and addressing what's WRONG!!! Jill Scott's album didn't get 1 nom? Wow.... Thanks guys..... Signing off - ( - Confused R&B Singer -@Tyrese

Every ten years this world will produce someone who's not afraid to speak OUT!! Someone who doesn't live his life in fear.... Someone who stands firm in his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and more importantly who has REAL TALENT doesn't live his life consumed in gimmicks and random ploys of getting attention with baseless issues. My open letter to the Grammys.. Me and my daughter had a blast she was able to meet her favorite artist and more important SEE her dad get on stage and perform while the whole world watched. People are going to decide diminish my points into a rant, or say that this is jealousy or me being competitive.. That's not the case at ALL!!! I've gotten a million calls and text messages with the outpouring of love and support and confusion so here's my response.. My #BlackRoseAlbum was #1 on the top 200 Billboard - #1 in 15 countries.. Approaching 400k sold domestically and internationally and I'm independent - with my label #VoltronRecordz song #SHAME this week is #1 for 16 weeks.. But yet I came home with no Grammy.. As much as I wanna make this about me.. Because it's always been a Chidhood dream to win 1 just 1... That didn't happen... And the whole world watched this go down. I'm concerned about my genre. R&B Soul. Black R&B soul artist being stuck on URBAN AC RADIO ONLY - and getting no love from MAINSTREAM RADIO!!!! You can't expect anyone to download, run to a store and buy or steam an album that they don't know EXIST. Shame #1 for 16 weeks and still only being played on urban AC???? When white R&B soul artist sing... They're played on ALL formats of radio and their sales reflect that. Why is the R&B Category in the pre-telecast? You're sending the message that R&B Doesn't matter.. This is my request to R&B Soul Singers.. We need to have a real meeting like for real.... And urgent meeting cause shit has to change and change NOW or our genre is going to DIE! I don't play the politics and bullshit game. We need to have an open dialogue and create a list of demands or decide to STAY HOME Sometimes I wish SAM Smith, or Justin Timberlake or Robin Thicke world of sung SHAME cause DJ Rogers Jr ( who wrote it) would have won his first GRAMMY!

I still haven't heard that album.. Hell, I haven't heard any of his albums when I think about it. Every time I see him it's either on a trailer for a movie I never watch or he's online bitching and moaning about something.

So he thinks he's the only and true R&B singer? De'Angelo and Lalah won. Was those albums not R&B? Does he not know of true R&B legends who were never nominated? I agree with 9:53 he needs to work on his attitude and humility.

On another note I tried to watch his new show on OWN with Rev Run (DVR ofcourse) and I just can't take him seriously. How are you going to instruct me on the values and treatment of black women when you failed numerously? In public no less. Thanks but no thanks Ike Jr.

I'm so sick of him right now.

Oh No and I liked him.

^^^^ Oh sorry, I mistook this person for Common! Now Common would not exploit himself like this - who is this person?

@10:12

Common ain't shit either. After he won the Oscar for that Selma song he went on John Stewart's show talking about how he was willing to forgive white folks for their treatment of blacks in this country.

A few weeks later he was set to speak at some college and the po po threw a hissy fit because he had written a song about Assata Shakur. They didn't forgive his dumb ass for a song but he would forgive for centuries of brutality. Dumbass negro.

As for this clown Tyresea he was defending using non black women in his videos not to long ago. I wish I would ride for this ass hole.

I love R&B. I love old school R&B. These new ppl can't sing anyway. Fuck Tyresea.

That's what Tyrese gets! All that bragging he did last year about the success of Black Rose, presenting a R&B Challenge to other artists to make an album without hip hop features while his own album had a feature from Snoop. It's all fun and games until the white Grammy committee doesn't recognize you though.
If anyone should be upset, it should be Jazmine Sullivan and Tamia who both had a solid R&B albums last year and ended up losing to the studio vocals of the Weeknd. FOH. Congrats to D'Angelo and Lalah Hathaway, two R&B veterans who are more than deserving!

As for Tyrese, I hope your humble pie tastes good.

Black Rose is an amazing album I will give him that. However, Tyrese is just too damn much. You're entitled to your pain and disappointment, but keep that shit classy. Damn.

Ok let me educate this new generation of entitled azzholes - its an award show if they don't feel you are entitled to it you don't get it - you do not get to go and whine and cry and bitch about not being chosen - guess what life isn't fair get over it.... real people have real issues and we are sick of hearing you celebrities cry about awards when we out here trying to maintain homes, households and our sanity. todays artists are not worth our praise or adoration.

Tyrese get over yourself. Your music us mediocre and your persona on line sucks. You are arrogant without a justifiable reason and there is NOTHING extraordinary about you. Have a seat sis.

^^@12:58--PREACH!! I swear, social media is going to be the death of us. We used to deal with indignities with dignity--and I mean real indignities. Now some of our men have turned into these whining 'baby boys', like Tyreese. Gotta stop it, for real.

I REALLY HATE when people put "rather or not..." That is NOT CORRECT!!!

It's "whether or not..." Rather indicates a difference in preference or degree of certainty. Whether indicates a choice between alternatives (i.e. Whether you know it or not, I would rather people use these words correctly than continue sounding ignorant).

I guess all that S H I T (literally) he put up with on his trips to Dubai didn't pay off. Oh, poor dat!
