Tyrese Demands Respect After Grammy Loss

R&B singer Tyrese demands respect for himself and R&B in general after losing Grammys to Lalah Hathaway and D'Angelo...

The overall #BlackRoseAlbum didn't get a Grammy nom..... Sent the wrong message.... And rather you know it or not it killed a lot of dreams for singers, writers and producers who worked their asses off to create this R&B Soul masterpiece..... It's not about the validation of a win..... It's about the culture.... How could you NOT nominate or recognize a pure R&B Soul album that delivered on ALL levels....??? This is my message to the young and geniusly talented producers, writers and my executives of #VoltronRecordz stay encouraged - stay inspired and know that you're not the ONLY ones confused...... It feels like theirs something purposely and maliciously trying to kill our genre - and it's all politics and that's a game I don't play too well at all.... This is why I will forever respect the "People's Choice" not the political choice - theirs not enough egos to stroke or gift baskets you could ever send to figure out the Grammys - the success of our beloved #BlackRoseAlbum #1 on the top 200 of Billboard, #1 for 3 week on the R&B Billboard charts, #1 in 15 countries and my song #SHAME #1 for 16 weeks - Grammy? Nooooooooooooooo - we gave our best...... Stay encouraged..... (( let me go on record and say that EVERYONE ELSE will benefit from my political wars NOT ME..)). And I'm ok with it - as long as everything changes I don't even want the credit.... My ego isn't in it.... I'm just speaking on what RIGHT and addressing what's WRONG!!! Jill Scott's album didn't get 1 nom? Wow.... Thanks guys..... Signing off - ( - Confused R&B Singer -@Tyrese

Every ten years this world will produce someone who's not afraid to speak OUT!! Someone who doesn't live his life in fear.... Someone who stands firm in his faith in the Lord Jesus Christ and more importantly who has REAL TALENT doesn't live his life consumed in gimmicks and random ploys of getting attention with baseless issues. My open letter to the Grammys.. Me and my daughter had a blast she was able to meet her favorite artist and more important SEE her dad get on stage and perform while the whole world watched. People are going to decide diminish my points into a rant, or say that this is jealousy or me being competitive.. That's not the case at ALL!!! I've gotten a million calls and text messages with the outpouring of love and support and confusion so here's my response.. My #BlackRoseAlbum was #1 on the top 200 Billboard - #1 in 15 countries.. Approaching 400k sold domestically and internationally and I'm independent - with my label #VoltronRecordz song #SHAME this week is #1 for 16 weeks.. But yet I came home with no Grammy.. As much as I wanna make this about me.. Because it's always been a Chidhood dream to win 1 just 1... That didn't happen... And the whole world watched this go down. I'm concerned about my genre. R&B Soul. Black R&B soul artist being stuck on URBAN AC RADIO ONLY - and getting no love from MAINSTREAM RADIO!!!! You can't expect anyone to download, run to a store and buy or steam an album that they don't know EXIST. Shame #1 for 16 weeks and still only being played on urban AC???? When white R&B soul artist sing... They're played on ALL formats of radio and their sales reflect that. Why is the R&B Category in the pre-telecast? You're sending the message that R&B Doesn't matter.. This is my request to R&B Soul Singers.. We need to have a real meeting like for real.... And urgent meeting cause shit has to change and change NOW or our genre is going to DIE! I don't play the politics and bullshit game. We need to have an open dialogue and create a list of demands or decide to STAY HOME Sometimes I wish SAM Smith, or Justin Timberlake or Robin Thicke world of sung SHAME cause DJ Rogers Jr ( who wrote it) would have won his first GRAMMY!
