Big Freedia Charged with Felony Fraud

Bounce Queen Big Freedia charged with felony fraud in section 8 housing scandal...

From WWL
The Queen of Bounce, Big Freedia, was charged in federal court Tuesday with felony theft of government funds.
Big Freedia is the stage name of Freddie Ross, Jr., who was charged by the U.S. Attorney’s Office with lying about his income to get subsidized housing through a Section 8 voucher each year from 2010 to 2014.
The bill of information suggests that Ross will plead guilty. It refers to Ross as “he,” even though Big Freedia performs as a woman and also uses “she.”
Big Freedia allegedly lied about how much money he was making as he renewed Section 8 vouchers on an annual basis, receiving more than $34,000 worth of vouchers when his income exceeded the federal subsidized housing limit.

I don't care what has happened, Freedia can do no wrong. He has such a pure soul and its hard as hell to find people that genuine today.

He was more than likely on Section 8 all his life. When you know better you do better. Sorry, find someone else to bash. Freedia is a real sweetheart.

@10:45 I actually heard a few months ago on the local news how millionaires are living in subsidized housing. Talk about a gross misuse of a public good.

I love Big Freedia! I was just wondering if Queen of the Bounce still came on the Fuse channel. The government was bound to find out sooner or later especially as Freedia gets more exposure in the mainstream media. Plus she got a book out.

Lots of stories of millionaires or damn near doing the same. How did he get caught is my question...

@10:53 Quit lying. Everyone needs help I just wish there was a timeline to being able to get assistance and I'd even be generous enough to say 5 years. That is enough time to get on your feet.

It's unfair to have someone on section 8 housing for a decade and a newly single or divorced mother can't receive benefits (housing) because decade section 8 having people are still living in the houses/apartments meant for people in need.

Oh yeah and I think that it's messed up that people with "long" money are afforded with section 8 and people who have kept minimum wage jobs to ensure they aren't cut off from section 8 vs someone like Big Freedia. Big Freedia didn't sit on her ass and continue to live there. She worked, and eventually got enough money to do it on her own and gave up section 8 in 4 years!! I'm proud of her!!

@11:36 Why would I lie about that? I just said I saw it on my local news. Goodness gracious Here's the story:

I think it is messed up. I watched that show actually for the past two years on Fuse. I was wondering what happened to the show this year...This must have been why? He is also on Beyonce's Formation talking on the song. I can hear them now going in on Beyonce about this phuckery...This damn messy ass queen knew better. On a couple of shows, he was talking about buying a new house for his mother who died of lung Cancer about two years ago, so that his mother can live in the back unit. Maybe that was all airs for the show, but Big Freda is hiding more money than that probably. That queen has been traveling all around the world, his dance/road manager worked with Beyonce, he got a hair stylist and makeup artist and all kinds of isht! As soon as he made it big, he should've kindly got his ass off of Section 8. I mean his show has been on Fuse for at least 3 years that I know of, which mean in 2012, he should've hopped his aff off of Section 8!....SMDH! Just a ghetto trifiling mess. I mean he can't go out of the country and now and risk losing his show and will not be appearing with Beyonce/Formation anytime soon....SMH! #MessyQueen!

@8:30 AM - Section 8 is a Federal (U.S. Gov't) program that subsidizes rent for people who make below a certain income in the form of a voucher. The individual states regulate the funds, however. How it works in NYS: if a family's voucher is $600/month, monthly rent is $600, AND if they can find landlords/apartments that accept Section 8 vouchers, the voucher will cover their rent in full.

@12:20am people making six figure salaries is not the same as "millionaires". In the article you linked "some families in Summerville public housing are making from $84,000 up to $139,000 per year" and "Families only have to meet HUD’s income requirements to get an apartment one time. Once they are in, they can stay, regardless of changes to their income.
Morrow believes the answer is easy: over-income families should be kicked out.
The head the of Summerville Housing Authority, Regina Anderson, however, said that is not her office’s policy despite the list of 65 poor families waiting for an apartment.
“There’s no regulation that we have to make them move, so we let them stay,” she said.
Anderson says her hands are tied by law, but we found that that’s not true.
The federal regulation she referred to does give Anderson the power to evict high-income residents and has for years. HUD even sent a letter to every housing authority in the country in September encouraging them to “remove extremely over-income families from public housing.”
“They’re just happy where they are,” Anderson told Gray.
“Don’t you think one of these working mothers that needs a place would be happy there, too?” Gray asked.
‘I’m sure they would,” Anderson responded.
Anderson said her current 2015 records show they don't have anyone making more than $100,000 a year." You over exaggerated the wealth of some of the residents.

They JUST found out he's over the limit? The man has his own show! And it ran for multiple seasons. One either just ended or is coming up soon.

I love Freedias personality but he knows this is wrong.
