Prince deserved the Oscar he was awarded for this. It's a fantastic concert movie and a time capsule. I'll be at the theater...missing him and wishing he were still with us. I'd rather have him back shading "stars" with no talent and making great music. I usually don't get emotional about showbiz people, but I'd rather have him back more than anything. (Sigh.)
This post is from yesterday, but needs to be reposted and read by all because I believe Lurker is on to something; There are people behind the scenes who are jockeying for control of Prince's legacy:Long Time Lurker said...Behind the scenes things are beginning to ramp up regarding the Legal Handling of Princes Estate, Specifically his Hidden Unreleased Recordings, and Recently Signed Contracts. There is NO Will. As I stated right after his death I did not believe he had a Will, Prince did NOT acknowledge Death. No need for Will. What is NOT being reported yet in the Media is Although Prince did make a deal to gain the rights to his Masters, it had Specific Provisions in order for him to receive those rights. In other words he Owed Warner Bros Money and those Provisions must be met in order for Prince to Hold Ownership. Some of those Provisions were New Albums, Concerts and Profit sharing in future Intellutual Property Partnerships. Now that he has' Passed 'a legal Nightmare is Unraveling and Warner Brothers is already moving legally to protect their rights. As well Princes has left NO one Access to his Unreleased Music. His sister has requested the right to be the Estate Executor.Behind the scenes many believe she is not Competent because of her history. In addition one of Michael Jackson Estate Attorneys has been sniffing around, he is either on someones payroll or attempting to be. I would guess he has already been hired as a consultant by those with the deepest pockets and the most to gainPrince had two Inner Circles. One which consisted of those that you see currently representing the face of Prince in Media. Yet another Hidden Layer existed, which represented his faith, the Elders of the Jehova Witness Church of which he was a very active member and was 15 Mins from his home. There was an Internal Battle over influence in every aspect of his image, health and wealth . The question remains Which Internal Group had the most Influence over Princes life and Ultimately his legacy after his death.- Lurker
Don't believe the hype - Prince didn't do drugs:In an interview with the Associated Press, L. Londell McMillan assured fans that Prince, 57 at the time of his death, did not have a history of drug abuse. In fact, he claimed the Grammy Award winner lived a clean lifestyle — he ate a vegan diet and was “not on any drugs that would be any cause of concern.” McMillan said the singer may have used medication — as many people do — but was not using it recreationally. The attorney told AP that Prince was not “drugged up,” adding that his death left him completely “shocked and overwhelmed.”http://www.ibtimes.com/princes-lawyer-l-londell-mcmillan-defends-him-amid-drug-use-rumors-says-he-lived-2359941
^ I agree. He always appeared sharp as a tack.
I think its possible he had AIDS. He went down healthwise a lot after say, 2007. Whenever that "black sweat" video came out, he looked healthy then. When he got the fro is when his health was obviously changing. Ima check and see if this film is in my local theaters.
Still wringing the red cents out of this mans legacy I see. All this money that is being made post mortem - who really benefits from all of this??????
@ 11:41 AM, or his hair was thinning and he was going bald. He was 57 years of age and did all kinds of things with and to his hair over about 3 or 4 decades. There was a blind item about an A list celebrity dying of AIDS about a week before he died, and while it could have been false or about anybody else most of the commenters named Prince.
You don't just drop dead from aids . Matter of fact you don't die from aids period idiots
@ 4:09 PM - Who cares, Dr. Knowitall? AIDS or AIDS related illness or complex, etc. is not good no matter how it is sliced. Whatever it was that killed him doesn't matter any more. The man is gone but the music lives on.
As a fan of Prince --- Why does it matter what his lifestyle was? My only concern is did he died naturally. I'm grateful to be a 70's baby and lived through his era. Most of us, only knew him for his music so let's appreciate the fact that he left a legacy of it for us to enjoy. He lived his life privately, which is very admirable considering he was PRINCE. And unlike most celebrities they want us to know everything---which isn't the truth anyway. He took extra precautions to protect his identity and life, so if we respected him when he was among us, let us do the same now. I believe he would want that. No of us are perfect --- THAT'S THE TRUTH... And as I stated earlier, whatever the cause of death is I just pray it was natural. As far as the show business aspect, as you see with a dead carcass, the buzzards circle around to feast. No different with any celebrity's death---people come out from wherever to get whatever and if they can not get anything --- then that's when they try to assassinate a person's character to get some greenbacks. However, as its been reported that Prince stated before a crowd a day/days before he passed don't believe anything the media says. If we can utilize our common sense, I would its probable that pain medication may have been involved due to the extreme performances he put on for us his fans and taking in consideration for Purple Rain only --- our bodies are not designed for that for any extended period of time. I could also assume logically that due to his long list of girlfriends and other encounters, he may have contracted something. However...I said that to say this...None of that matters because whatever he did or did not do that DOES NOT DIMINISH, TARNISH, REDUCE, STAIN OR CHANGE THE FACT THAT HE WAS ONE OF A KIND AND LIVED LIFE ON HIS OWN TERMS. Let us continue to celebrate PRINCE'S LIFE & MUSIC. As his song states "Sometimes It Snows In April"May He Rest In Peace...
Just to mention...Prince was anti-industry (big corporate chains) as he compared this to slavery. If you have spent money to see Purple Rain in AMC theaters --- forgiven---however, please do not encourage or support this.Purple Rain has been on rotation since its inception in '84. From the looks of it, so many people have gone to see it that AMC extended the viewing just to squeeze a little more greenbacks out people while his name is still trending... Stop making companies rich of his name.
