The REAL Reason Tamar Got Fired?

Sunday afternoon Tamar Braxton fans were shocked after day-time talk show The Real confirmed rumors that Tamar had been let go [click here if you missed that].

New details leak on the many reasons Tamar got fired...

From The Daily Mail
...during the final tapings of The Real in early May, the show's executive producer had reached a breaking point with Tamar, who cursed her out in earshot of other staffers on set after being upset she lost a game during the taping.
'It was an ugly scene. Pinterest was sponsoring the segment and Tamar was genuinely upset she was losing the game. 'She really acted out during the taping in front of the studio audience and then exploded behind the scenes once the show was done.
Producers had to heavily edit the segment to make it presentable to air on TV, but the sponsor was on set for the segment and witnessed it all,' the source explains.
...Sources tell Daily Mail Online Telepictures decided to conduct focus groups on the show to see what they could do to empower the show for Seasons 3 and 4, as it had been announced that the series had received a two-year renewal on all Fox stations and on BET where it re-airs.
The research from the focus group was not good for Tamar.
'The focus group research showed that most educated and working women did not identify with Tamar's show vernacular and her use of words known to be popular among drag queens and some gay men - phrases like "get your life," "where they do that at," "have several seats."
'It was even said she seemed more suited to be a judge on RuPaul's Drag Race on Logo instead of a talk show host on The Real,' revealed the source.
'The research went on to say that most educated and working women found her to be 'ghetto' and that her aggressive eye-rolling, neck-rolling and the smacking of her mouth were indicative of 'stereotypical behavior that African American women have worked years to overcome,'' the source continued.
The Real's executive producer used the show's focus group findings, her on-set insubordination and the fact that the sales team for the show had made it clear that advertisers did not want her in their segments due to antics that happened with Pinterest to convince Warner Bros. to can her from the show.

While I agree that Tamar is a messy mess, this is CLEARLY a smear campaign on The Real's end. Whoever the staffer was she pissed off must be leaking all this tea. Oh well, karma's a bitch.

I saw the Pinterest segment referenced in this article and I was surprised at Tamar's reaction. It was another one of those awkward/uncomfortable moments to watch and I kept telling myself surely she can't be serious. Tamar is super talented and I'd love to see her win. I just don't understand her attitude sometimes when she has SO much going for her.

Tiffanyinthecity said...

Yeah. I didn't get her as a host either. Too over the top. Probably better suited for a show on Logo. She's very "campy".

@2:04 I agree completely. Time for this ghetto uneducated "nigga" bullshit to be eradicated. The funny thing is Tamar is originally from Severn Maryland. There is NOTHING ghetto or "hood" about her. It's all an act.

Tamar can be a little to much but was the race of the people they used for the focus group? I mean wasn't the real supposed to be an urban take on the view, the talk and shows of that nature. I mean I was watching one time and they had a segment called shade or no shade where you had to determine if what someone said was shady or not. Is the real trying to diversify and are cutting Tamar out because she is to urban. Most educated black woman
in their mid 40 and younger can understand the word that she use. Isn't that their target audience. Maybe they are trying to target Becky. At this point I call for a boycott of that show. Don't try to hold a black girl down to grow your show when it was build on the strength and viewership of the black community. And another thing most educated black woman are at work when the Real airs. This leads me to believe they focused group a bunch of stay home white mothers to get those white advertising dollars.

So we're going to keep acting like this wasn't said in December when she returned to the show? She even did an IG post denying it.

Vince is working overtime trying to make it look like it was everybody but her. We all saw her attitude on the show so write ups like this is easy to believe.

2:30 While I do not care for Tamar, I do agree with your comment. I thought it was suppose to be like an urban View. Can't stand the show myself, too much cackling.

Tippie Toes said...

The focus group was on point though I don't think many can deny that I couldn't watch Tamar I just didn't understand why she acted the way she did it's like grow up and act right.

@2:30pm I'm an educated Black woman, in her 40's, originally from the S. Bronx, and I was also tired of Tamar's "hood chick" antics. I'm a fan of her music, but sometimes I would literally cringe when she spoke on the show.

I can't speak for Becky (lol), but I can tell you that MANY of US are tired of our people perpetuating stereotypical behavior.

Acting like a black gay man may be amusing to her fans but I can only imagine if I had to come to WORK everyday and endure all that neck rolling, tongue popping & gay lingo.. In my Towanda Braxton voice "EVERY GROUP YOU'VE BEEN IN HAS FAILED BECAUSE OF THAT ATTITUDE"..... You almost 40 and act like an black gay little boy.

Next question - Will Loni Love be next? lol

Anonymous said...

@2:30 NOPE. No "poor misunderstood black woman" race card for this mofo. As another poster mentioned she was fake acting ghetto, dancing like a monkey for the whites.
The focus group and The Real producers were exactly right about her.
I wouldn't be surprised if they replaced her with another Black woman, or better yet just not replace her at all. Again reiterating another poster; there is just too much cackling on that show.

Tippie Toes said...

I actually think Loni Love is the one who ranks higher than the rest in the show - she is seated center and from the episodes I've seen she is the one who starts the show off

Anonymous said...

So Tamar your ghetto chick act is over.com. Have several seats.

Anonymous said...

"Educated and working women" i.e. the people who actually BUY the goods advertisers are advertising. As 3:45 said, she needs to sit down and reevaluate things.

Anonymous said...

It's a shame that white folks conditioned y'all to be ashamed of who you are....that they label your color, and character as ghetto and uncouth and you accept it. Any girl other than a black one would be "outspoken" but Tamar and girls like her (and many in our very own families) are ghetto trash? Speech is nothing more than another divisive tool they use to say "we're better than you". And you believe it. Tuh!

Anonymous said...

Um, some educated/working people are at the doctor's office or on break during the day and don't want to see that loud, ratchet sh*t...It raises my blood pressure.

Anonymous said...

4:24.... I don't have problem with slang or ebonics, but Tamar was over the top and not very likable.

Anonymous said...

LOL @ the notion that education makes you somehow not ratchet. I know a lot of highly educated, yet very ratchet individuals. One has nothing to do with the other.

Anonymous said...

4:24 please DON’T perpetuate the narrative that the way Tamar speaks is intrinsically related to her color. Speech is a Class and Education issue. I've known people with GED's who were self-taught and well-read and DID NOT speak like what you describe. All Black people DO NOT sound like Tamar and perhaps you should broaden your circle if a number of people you know sound like that.

(Hell, my Grandmother went to a segregated one room schoolhouse outside of Augusta GA and dropped out to support her family working as a nurse when she was 15. She read every day a and did not have the "Black" speech pattern you describe. Please don’t ascribe that to all Black people. It’s hurtful.

I think you've been brainwashed into thinking that poverty, under-education, and illiteracy are indicative of the Black experience.

AVIS VALERIA said...

Time to grow up now and act like a grown up.

Anonymous said...

I think Tamar needed a niche/this is all for show and a persona that backfired. She needed a way to distinguish herself from other D-List Black female singers, so being over the top worked (until it didn't)

Anonymous said...

So you cut and paste this BS propaganda from B. Scott? Loni's BFF? Really Snitch... #DoBetter

Anonymous said...

ITA 4:33 and 4:36

Folk code switch, even the educated who enjoy slang, sometimes speech/diction is more relaxed around skin-folk but that doesn't mean one is ignorant, to me that denotes more intelligence.

@433

Nowhere in my post did I say all, anywhere. Nor did I say that's what I'm accustomed to being around. I said Tamar and girls like her which represents a small segment of us. And dear, it's not me that's been brainwashed into thinking that that poverty, under-education, and illiteracy are indicative of the Black experience...it's those who feel compelled to describe the focus group as consisting of educated people...or the educated people that are saying seeing Tamar on TV raises their blood pressure. It only proves my point that there's anger and disgust that a black girl has the nerve to be on a talk show "being ratchet and loud" and that the way she chooses to express herself is distasteful. Anything that doesn't fall within the majority's "social norms" is frowned upon. Like I said, Tamar represents a small portion of us and there are people that can relate to her. She, nor they, should not be labelled and ghetto, trash, ratchet, and uneducated or shamed for how they chose to express themselves.

Anonymous said...

this from the same network that produces EMPIRE? I'm not a TAMAR fan, but I believe she finally pissed off the wrong person and that did her in. You are never too big to have a studio Boss put you in your place white or Black but especially Black and particularly female. TAMAR, needs to work on her work ethic and attitude that goes a long way. Unfortunately, she probably has had to miss out on a lot of opportunities because of it. FOX's PR is planting stories to bury her, and because of her nasty attitude, it is not a hard job. Do better TAMAR AND FOX.

Anonymous said...

4:53, it's 4:33 - I think I understand more clearly what you were saying, but in a perfect world people wouldn't be judge by speech patterns. Sadly, they are and whatever the ingrained "social norms" speaking that way on national TV will marginalize the person. My fear is that Loni and Tamar are perpetuating stereotypes...Peace.

Anonymous said...

Sorry @433, I misdirected my comment to you. I mistakenly thought you @'d my post

Anonymous said...

I am an educated working woman and I watch the show every day (DVR). Tamar is a lot, but not really deep so it was easy to understand her. I learned how to ignore her, but I can see how she would turn some people off. She does hate to lose, and the last Pinterest war she did cut up. I would love to see the focus group because the audience is diverse, but consists of many young women and men of color and I'm sure they understand everything she says.

Anonymous said...

The show is not on Fox in my city so...

Anonymous said...

@457 from 453

I don't think we should have to accept responsibility for people's ignorance in believing stereotypes in the first place. No one should have to say to you "hey, check that...before they think we're all that way". To me, that's still conditioning us to think that whatever is considered "stereotypical behavior" is something to be ashamed of or something that has to be lived down.

Anonymous said...

@4:53 It has less to do with race and "how she portrays black women", and more to do with she is just fake, over the top and annoying. She's not relateable because it's an act. Granted, she apparently can keep in character for 24 hours, but also nothing she does is original, and people tired of her borrowed personality.

Anonymous said...

But they knew who she was for the past TWO seasons. NOW it's a problem after 4 Emmy nominations? GTFOH!

Anonymous said...

^^ bitch dont you understand the fact that sometimes people are happy and thankful for a job once they get it but after a while the ego takes over and they feel like they can treat people like 10 yards of shit because they can? well they just let that bitch know that, no, no you can't. #byetamar

Her antics were unprofessional and like any employer, when you determine an employee is not meeting performance expectations, your employment is terminated. This shit ain't hard. She started to believe her own hype.

I agree @6:02 Tamar's "personality" on the show is completely over-the-top to the point of irritation. I can't say one way or another whether that's truly part of her character, but even the most boisterous of people are asked to tone it down sometimes.

@4:53 every ethic group, race, tribe and nation has it's undesirables, who refuse (willingly or not) to obey or concede to predetermined societal norms and therefore contemned or looked down upon. So I don't know why you seem outraged or surprised at the suggestion that people who possess a "personality" like Tamar's are seen as distasteful. I do agree that one's personality is not all that defines them and an amalgamation of one's traits, opinions, intelligence, diligence, and compassion should be considered on an individual before judging, but still that's not how every community, or the world at large, works.

Isn't if funny that the focus group, black folks, the cast member and the sponsors/advertisers take exception to Tamar's vernacular. Perhaps she thought her roll was to be "entertaining" and the sense of humor on the show. I digress.

Everyone is stepping on Tamar but I find it interesting that sponsors to the tune of mega millions in the bank didn't pull out on the Kartrashians, especially Kim after hearing her speak. Kim and all her sisters have an uneducated slow minded schizophrenic manner of speaking. Kim's antics all caught on camera either by video or camera pic have been way over the moon. Khloe got caught on tape with a vial of cocaine in her purse, and no sponsor pulled out because they thought she was a bad social influence due to drug use. No sponsor pulled out from the Kartrashians because they were promoted pedophilia by showing Kylie as a minor in an intimate relationship with Tyga and adult. No sponsor pulled out alleging that Kylie's parents were promoting and allowing their daughter to leave US soil and go to France with a grown man unaccompanied by an adult. Kylie was 16 years old. Kourtney promoting unmarried sex and out of wedlock kids sprinkled with parental disrespect. And so much more.

The Smith children: a 13 year old photo in bed with a grown man who at best appeared to be naked - pedophilia. Jaden Smith photoed with a known junkie. Yet the sponsors and advertisers have not pulled out their money.

However Tamar caused such an uproar that she had to be fired for being entertaining. Most of the women on that show may not act as she does but you hardly know they are even at the damn table.

I call BULLSHIT!!!!!

Anonymous said...

OH AND didn't they know what Tamar was like before the hired her? Had they not seen her show with her husband? I bet they hired her for that reason and she brought that act with her. If I were her I'd see an attorney.

Anonymous said...

Her attitude has been the same way for 2 years so why can her now?

Focus groups, aka white people always want to monopolize on black culture and blackish behavior, then once they get everything they want, they white white wash everything. And dislike Tamar, a lot actually. But don't fire somebody because they're too black. Do you know how many dry, brittle, stale chips personality, white people I come across? I don't see anybody firing them for extreme corniness. All I'm saying is fire somebody based on their job performance.

They posted this Pintrest segment on their youtube channel. She was acting up on set, highly unprofessional.

Keyshia said...

‎I don't usually comment, but this doesn't make a lot of sense. As it's been said before: Tamar on The Real is the same Tamar from both reality shows. You can't call foul when her behavior is no longer an act. And concerning those "older women" from the focus group - what's older? 40? 45? 50? Who on the show is that old except Loni??? Why isn't everyone fired but her? Tamar was on someone's radar. Hopefully she'll bounce back.

@8:26

The Real is a NETWORK show. The Kartrashians are on the E channel, total different rules. The Smith kids aren't on any daytime shows they are in Hollyweird to which anything goes. The daytime audience consists of fat housewives, old people, stay at home moms, and people on the way to or at work. FOX are trying to spin it as if Tamar doesn't appeal to that audience but I have a feeling that that is just that, SPIN. Because like you said she was ratchet when they hired her. Tamar pissed the wrong one off this time, and that's too bad for her because I don't know where she'll go after this. Yes she has two shows on WEtv but I bet those checks aren't as cushy as that daytime gig.

Anonymous said...

Following on 5:32 comment, the show is also syndicated and they have to get sponsors to buy national ads that suit every market where the show airs (different networks in each city). If this story is true then it would make sense to get rid of someone that the SPONSORS don't like and don't want in their segments. You can act as crazy if you want, but when you start hurting the $$$, then they are looking at a way to get rid of you. And if she acted out in front of the TRUE CUSTOMER, then yeah....bye bye.

BS....

Ghetto but living in a mansion working multiple jobs. A front to gain control of the show so they can white wash it. It will be cancelled after the renewal is up.
