Director Ava DuVernay Makes History

Selma director Ava DuVernay makes history as the first woman of color to helm a film with a movie budget over $100 million...

The film 'A Wrinkle in Time' will star Ava's new bff Oprah Winfrey.

Fun Fact: Back in May there were rumors Orpah's original bestie Gayle King felt pushed out by O and Ava's budding friendship [click here of you missed that].

Is this accomplishment gonna stop the continued oppressions of the black race as a whole?

all these black billionaires and millionaires and thousandaires, YET ( as a whole ) our people STILL don't own nuthing of importance or value and STILL TILL THIS DAY are at the bottom of society ( as a whole )...

but we got billionaires and millionaires and thousandaires that we should be 'happy' about

agreed @ 1:05
the power is owning which is why we are prevented from doing so. the ones writing the checks are the ones with the power and the owners; the rest of us are just stewards, even stewards of $100 million.

Not knocking the hustle, but let's be real.

When we start owning stuff, that's when we can yield real power; until then, let the church say "waiiiilllll"

This occurred to me with the formation of the Black Lives Matter movement. Either you own something and don't sell it back; or you become part of the establishment you are begging for inclusion and respect

Happy for her but does Oprah have to be involved? Ugh!
And 1:10 you are spot on. Even for us regular folks, they pay us well but don't give us any power. We need to get sneaky and conniving like some of them and start taking it.

Thats not history. Thats a insult. We should be ashamed we let People punk Us and treat Us this way for so many years. Nothing to be proud of. Get the hell out of here. Patronizing Us.

@1:05 sorry baby, but black people are not at the bottom! We will continue to march ahead despite this world's system and design to defeat us. It's in our DNA! This sister just kicked another door open for future generations!

I agree with the individual who stated it's about ownership. Do you know the black owned and operated businesses in your community? Do you patronize them? Is there a directory of said business' available? #BuyBlackInitiative
