Nate Parker Addresses College Rape Accuser's Suicide

Back in 1999 actor Nate Parker and his college roommate, and Nat Turner bio-pic writing partner, Jean Celestin, were accused of raping an unconscious classmate.

Nate was acquitted and Jean received a six month sentenced, which he appealed, but now the allegations have resurfaced, along with news that the victim committed suicide, and are threatening the release of  Nate and Jean's highly anticipated Nat Turner biopic...

In a note on Facebook Nate addresses the issue.

Go here to read a response from the accuser's family.

Well sh*t; But this doesn't take away from the film's message.

i bet it was a white girl, like his wife.. these n&ggas will never learn, then want black folks, particularly black women to come out and support and make him rich.. bleh..

Are Nate and friends dirty dawgs?

My heart goes out to the young lady. Nate was acquitted although the friend was not. The lady isn't here to give her side anymore so we can't condemn him when we don't know.

why negroes only want to get a clue when they have daughters, sh!ts weak as hell to me, you have a mother, sisters, friends, and there's a thing called human decency. if you never had any daughters, rape would be ok??

I'm still going to support this movie. I'm sorry that the young lady ended her life.

To even be part of this case makes him a sick person.

Rape is about power over a weaker victim.

Damn they really dont want this movie to hit the streets ...COINTERPLO in real effect. we got dudes marrying daughter and getting awards, got a rapist still making movies and ducking the law and lets not even talk about the pedo crap but let's bring up an acquittal from damn near decades ago

Yt people (as I learned how to stylize from this board) will DO ANYTHING to take someone's shine and prevent something profound from being released to the masses. He was acquitted. This woman has been dead for a few years. She may have killed herself because she was mentally ill. The rape happened in the 90s??? That is no reason to bring this back from the dead!

This makes me hope they don't do anything to block the blessings from the new Taraji P. Henson movie! Something positive for our people to see about how smart we are! I am experiencing this at work so I know firsthand! When we get a little accolade ... threaten their place just a little bit ... all that equality talk goes out the damn window! They want to keep us in our place and this is no exception.

The NAT TURNER story is Powerful. The revolt left Lincoln no choice but to abolish slavery. A Must see

@11:20 I hate to be the bearer of bad news but The Civil War occurred bc the Northern whites were hatin on the Southern whites newfound wealth. Northern whites were okay with slavery until they realized how much money it was making the Southerners. Then the Confederate States decided since they were making so much money, they might as well SEPARATE from the Union. Slavery was "abolished" only to destroy the whole economy of the Southern states, NOTHING to do with Nat Turner and definitely not bc whites gave two shits about your Black ancestors #StayWoke lol

He raped that damn white girl.If he didn't he sat his ass back and watched or knew it was happening. Never trust a nigga with a white wife. And that Nat Turner movie gonna be some bullshit I bet you they will take out the main details of the real Nat Turner's life

He raped he and when she pressed charges he stalked her ass. People read the transcripts, the man is a rapist. It may be a damn good movie but he's still a rapist.

He was acquitted! Why is it that being accused of rape automatically makes you guilty? IJS

This negro is a piece of work....can someone say sociopath.

@11:58
YOU ARE 100% correct. Lincoln didn't give a shit about our ancestor's plight. So I'm always amazed at all the shit Black ppl name Lincoln.

This story takes me back to a time when I dated a guy, who confessed to being present when a friend of mine was trained.

I was 18. I cut that buster loose as soon as he confessed. Like because he didn't fuck her. He was absolved of guilt. Hell no. Bitch. She was forever changed. NEGATIVELY.

She didn't press charges. I lost touch with her when I went to college. This story brought it all rushing back to me. Men don't get how irreparably damaged women are from rape.

Nat Turner maybe a good movie. But this will effect it's profitability. I think. Cause I didn't know this about this brother. It alters how I feel about him.

It doesn't matter if he was acquitted--he was present when the girl was assaulted and didn't do anything to stop it AND he stayed friends with the other guy who wasn't acquitted. To me that speaks loudly to his character and integrity as a man...as a person.

As for the movie, I had no intention of seeing it in the first place. I'm done with slavery related and slavery based movies and/or TV shows. I've read books about Nat Turner and there's nothing that an embellished movie adaptation can tell me. That being said I'm sure a lot of Black people will support the movie and I hope it makes a lot
of money.

I WILL NOT SUPPORT THIS MOVIE!!!

The only reasons Parker was not convicted is because he had sex with the victim previously and he was a star on the Penn State wrestling team. We all know how notorious and vicious Penn State is when it comes to protecting their athletes. The reason Nate's friend who was convicted of rape was released is because the victim never showed up for the appeal. It was reported that Nate and his buddies harassed and threatened the victim to the point where she was too afraid to go to back to court. There was also a 3rd guy at the apartment that Nate invited to have sex with the unconscious girl. He declined. He said he
was not down with the way Nate and the other guy were taking turns on the girl and it was not his thing. Nate Parker at the very least facilitated the rape. BUT since Nate Parker has written, directed and starred in movie that is getting rave reviews I guess no one really cares that he was involved in the rape of an unconscious girl.

A distribution company paid Nate Parker and his writing partner Jean Celestin (the other guy that was convicted of rape) 17.5 million dollars for the movie. This is the highest amount ever paid for distribution rights for a movie shown at the Sundance Film Festival. Everything is online ....GOOGLE it.

Raped her and got her as a sacrifice! How disgusting!!!!

@10:53 you are on to something...

Don't yall get it...THIS dude has been doing movies for the past 11 years, but NOW when he is not just a random actor, but writes, directs, produces and gets millions of funding for a movie (that might be decent), here comes a 17 year old case where the victim committed suicide 4 years ago. Why wasn't this story this big when he starred in Beyond the Lights 4 years ago? Was he tried in court? yes. Was he convicted? No. Although his friend's conviction was overturned, that dude was spent some time in jail.

These two didn't realize that the powers that be were going to pull out all of the stops to disparage them now that he is more than an actor. All the attention must have made him forget...

There's no conspiracy by white people to take down Nate Parker or his movie. People are just paying more attention to him because Birth of a Nation is getting a lot of buzz. There's even early, early talk of possible Oscar noms. Whenever a movie or actor gets a lot of buzz and hype people start paying attention....and researching.

I'd never heard of Nate Parker or Beyond the Lights. Evidently, that movie did not get the same level of attention as Birth of a Nation is getting. As a result, there is more interest and people want to know more about him.... who is he?...where did he come from?....etc. That's why this story about the rape charge has surfaced after 17 years. I think it was The Daily Beast looked into Nate's past and put out the rape info that other sites have picked up on and are now talking about.

@11:58 am This is correct. It doesn't take away that Turner existed ( and many more like him that got lost in the history pages) and the uprising was something the northerners piggy backed in order to strong arm the southern confederacy. the threat of SUCCESSION was the reason the civil war came about.
