A Tale of Two Sex Crimes

Earlier this year the critically acclaimed Nat Turner biopic 'Birth of a Nation' failed miserably at the box office after a decades old allegation of sexual assault leveled against it's writer, producer and star, actor Nate Parker and his former college roommate and Birth of Nation co-writer Jean McGianni Celestin resurfaced [click here if you missed that].

Meanwhile actor Casey Affleck, who has also been accused of sexual assault, by multiple women, [click here if you missed that], is expected to win the Academy Award this year for his turn in Manchester by the Sea.

Why is that..?

This A-/B+ list mostly movie actor spread around several million dollars from himself and a studio and someone from his acting family which keeps everyone quiet about what he did to a certain group of women. He also spent a ton of money to tabloids to get the story shut down as much as possible.

Did his victim also kill herself? Is he going on a Defense parade at the same time he's trying to promote his movie?

Everything is not about race. I don't know the details of either case but a rapist is a monster no matter what skin color they wear. I will never get why people try and justify crime by race.

"The father from 7th Heaven raped someone and didn't get his show pulled so Bill Cosby raping someone shouldn't."

NO, THEY ALL NEED TO BURN IN HELL.

Wow, this is shocking. NOT!

7:44, no one is justifying a crime, but this is a blatant example of a double standard. That said, Nate Parker should have followed Oprah's PR advice which mimics what Affleck is doing. With the right PR sh*t can be spun into gold, but stupid Parker (with his delusional self allegedly taking advice from his white wife who doesn't seem to understand American race relations) thought he could go it alone, and white feminists were used to bury him and the movie. Great movie, stupid guy.

What 8:04 am said....

A man sleeps with 100 women he's the man. A woman does it she's a hoe. Double standard or justifying why a woman should be able to sleep around. Depends what side of the coin you are on. That said i agree with most of your comment minus Birth being a Great movie. It was okay.

Blatant racism.. DISCRIMINATION

This is more about connections and money than it is about race. Keep in mind that despite rumors being around for decades, this whole rape thing with Bill Cosby didn't really emerge until these last two-three years. Nate Parker had the money and connections, but didn't use them properly (as what @8:04 alluded to).

7:44...calm down. Nate was acquitted of any crimes while Casey was. Are you out of your mind? Yes, there is something to this. You don't have to be that smart to figure it out as it is right in your face...

There is no discrimination. NOBODY went to see Birth of a Nation cause no one gave a fuck, period. I went to see Manchester by the Sea, it was your typical "Bahhston" movie that the Afflecks are known for. It wasn't bad and neither was Casey. If he got charged and his victim killed herself it would've been comparable....but since that didn't happen it's NOT. Nate's arrogance killed his chances at the Oscars.

Ooohh..... I can answer that... ***raises hand***
Number 1... b/c he is white and...
Number 2 b/c he is Ben Affleck lil brother!

@11.18

Maybe I am out of my mind becauseI don't know what The Fuck you are trying to say in that post.

White people will support him because he's white, dates white women, and sells stories that support white supremacy. Nate Parker is a black man who rapes and marries white women then attempts to sells stories that support black power to black people. You see why that's a no?

Don't forget there's always a difference between white people and white elites. There's a difference between the elites and all people. It's the white elites that support Casey Affleck. Most other whites think him and his Gigli brother are trash. Both the Afflecks can get fucked. They only care about themselves - not even their own - just themselves.

Because it's so easy for black folk to hate one another and it's like black folk looove going above and beyond to show how well they can hate and punish one another for years on end.

There is absolutely NO comparison. I am sorry Miss. Snitch did you read the story? He was accused of SEXUAL HARASSMENT not Rape OR Sexual assault....

"The surge of publicity has brought renewed attention to two sexual harassment lawsuits filed against him in 2010 that alleged he had manhandled women, was verbally abusive, and generally behaved outrageously on the set of his film I’m Still Here, which he directed. Both cases were mediated and eventually settled out of court for undisclosed sums."

This was settled. The victim in Nate Parker's case actually left a law firm to DEFEND her in death, and worked to change how rape was treated at the college they went to.

Not only that but, her family released MULTIPLE statements about what happened to the woman who Nate Parker raped, who later committed suicide.

If that is not enough Nate Parker:

1. Nate made the movie with the other man who raped the woman, was CONVICTED...then let off because Nate got away with it.

2. A man WALKED BY the room while and his friend were raping the woman...they INVITED him to join in. He DECLINED and TESTIFIED.

3. Nate started bringing his DAUGHTER to interviews after people started asking about the rape. Then said he "could not talk about it" because his daughter was there. Really? Your daughter as a shield nigga?

4. He never went to jail.

Snitch I can't believe you would compare these cases. I am dissapointed...I like this site. To compare two sex crimes based on race and not about the lack of Justice for the survivors... :(

Not only that, but who is Casey Affleck????? IDK this man. We are Black, not White.

Birth of Nation did REALLY well compared to any Indie Film.

To add a 5th point:

Gabrielle Union, a known rape survivor was chosen to do the film.

The original Nat Turner had NO rape scene.

Nate Parker and his Partner (formally convicted, then appealed his rape case) wrote a GANG rape scene INTO the movie for her character. WHY???

We need to stop making Rape and Sexual Assault about what White men do and can get away with.

So Casey Affleck had a court trial too and was acquitted?

Celebs/Athletes are accused/charged of sexual assault all the time but if it doesn't go to trial then it doesn't stick. Ask Tim Rothlesburger (sp?). That's why Kobe paid that white girl in Colorado 25million$ to avoid a rape trial. In a lot of people's mind if you're charged AND go to trial that means something definitely went down and you MIGHT be guilty. If charges are dropped/dismissed then someone was lying. That's just the way it is.
