Ellen Degeneres Says She Doesn't Understand Kim Burrell

This week pop star Janelle Monae confirmed rumors that gospel singer Kim Burrell had been cut from an appearance on The Ellen Degeneres Show after her homophobic sermon went viral [click here if you missed that].

Ellen discusses the controversy with music producer Pharrell and says she doesn't understand Kim Burrell's hatred toward gays...

During the segment Ellen explains,
“I say it all the time. To me, when I say ‘be kind to one another,’ I feel that, because as someone who has received a lot of hate and prejudice and discrimination because of who I choose to love, I just don’t understand how anyone who has experienced that kind of oppression or anything like that — it only gives me more compassion, it only gives me more empathy.”
Comes in at the 2:20 mark.

That's all very laudable and so on, but now they're just using her for publicity

Is she comparing the struggles of being gay to oppression of Black people?

And Pharrel corny ass co-signing it? I just want to kick his New Black ass to a whole new planet, I swear!

Pharrell set Kim up. I think he heard about her shading someone he supports and decided to expose her inadvertently. Remember he is already known so he knows how the game goes. Kim aint on that level so she don't know how it works. I wonder if she knows.

Pharrell is gay too. So is Ellen, so is Janelle. I think this is their way of shaming Kim and those who think like her. Kim must've came for one of theirs behind the scenes.

Kim should've went on the show and spoke her peace. She would've gotten the fame she desperately craves and potentially a new revenue stream on TBN or something.

@12:47 Which is exactly why she was univited from the show. Why would Ellen allow her on the show to catch her 15 minutes of mainstream fame off being a hateful religious nut? It wasn't Kim's decision not to do the show; she was told she wasn't welcome anymore.

I'll bet you dollars to donuts that a "perverted" gay person had a hand in styling Ms. Burrell for that photo used above in this post.

Yes, that's something white gays as always doing. Comparing gay rights to the black struggle and trying to "shame" black people.

I still think she was set up. Why would Pharrell work with her if she's such a bigot?

Its ironic because liberals (especially gay ones) have hatred for conservatives.

Yet they don't understand "hatred". SMH

The way Pharrell always ingratiates himself to a particular section of society makes me cringe.
These Asian mutts tend to do this a lot a la Tiger Woods.

Like real hatred to conservatives mean nothing. Liberals don't want to take conservatives rights away.

Kim is picking and choosing what sin to call out. It's cool. Stay in the gospel lane. Mainstream wasn't h checking for her anyway.

@1:47. Bwhaaaaa
Her hair do was the first thing I saw. NOW GET OUT OF MY HEAD. That hair is two snaps and a whirl.

I have had to snatch the wigs of a few white gays especially with that "you and I know how discrimination feels".

When Blacks are murdered by the po po where are those WE motherfuckers then? They're trying to hitch their movement to 400 years of the worse treatment against one group of ppl in maybe the history of the world.

Bitches cannot tell me that they understand how 400 yrs of slavery feels. Besides I guarantee you GAYS were slave holders too.

What's not to understand, Ellen???

Where there is freedom to live a homosexual lifestyle, which believes in same sex love... there is still freedom to practice religion, which happens to come with it's very own belief system.

This was said in the "House of the Lord" which happens to be the church she founded and preaches. Not done in the streets pestering passerby's.

Kim is a well known Gospel Entertainer, Pastor, as well as a professional Gospel Singer. Therefore the "shock" of it all from anyone makes them look stupid af. #YouAin'tKnowDis

Disagreements don't always equate to personally hating someone. #UDoU #ImmaDoMe

This issue is not a race issue...Pastor Hagee, who is a well known Pastor with his own family TV ministry, also speaks quite often against this lifestyle and says he will always make this known...And he does! He doesn't care who gets offended or all in their feelings. He says he will always stand on the WORD.

@2:15

Get outta here with that "Asian mutt" bullshit. Little do you know that the vast majority of mixed Asians aren't seen as such. No one walks around and says "that person is mixed with Asian."

I agree. Being gay and Black is a double wammy. But a lot of you all act like being gay is a white struggle.

The color of my skin vs choosing who to sleep with are NO WAY EQUAL!! I cannot help what skin color I was born with!! You can decide who to have sex with..

There was a Kim Burrell before this ED show appearance, there will be one after. One monkey don't stop no show, not even a white lesbian one.

Yes but Kim wants that mainstream love which is why she stated in that facebook video "don't say you support her because if you did I would have won a Grammy and I would've sold millions of records".

Ellen has been through a lot so I understand her struggle. However her plight doesn't come close to what Blacks have endured for centuries. Apples and oranges.

Was it kind compassionate and empathetic when she cut Kim from the show??? Some people are hilarious with their doubletalk.

5:43 ITA...don't understand where the hate is.

Yes being black and someone being gay are two totally different things and should not be compared. The comparison is highly offensive and idiotic.

I don't give a heck!!! Kim ain't doing nothing but speaking what most everyone, is thinking but, staying silent about, because of the back lash they will receive!!! It's a FILTHY lifestyle that God totally disapproves of which, is exactly the reason why he got rid of of Sodom and Gomorrah. Ain't nothing change but this filthy, nasty, world thats going down the drain, quickly. Darn, shame kids walking around talking about they are GAY...it's the newest Fad!!!

@10:49

Gays have been around since the time of the bible (duh), that's hardly a fad.

Anonymous said...

Stop it Kim @10:49, gays get a bad rap because of a few. They are promiscuous and they LIE and cover up who they really are. Also they fight like cats and dogs when they are in relationships. Nothing that hetero couples do all the time but are not considered "filthy"?

Worry about the baby fuckers and animal molesters.

It would've been something if Ellen had actually allowed Kim on the show, and then discussed the whole thing. I would've actually tuned in to hear that. But I know how the culture goes...you speak out with an unpopular, unPC opinion and you immediately get shunned and invalidated.
